No it isn't, remember how social networking sites always get the blame for random teens commiting suicide after their friends encouraged them over myspace? Exactly.

Needs more Cave_b4 instead of dustbowl (no seriously, that map is great) -
It's a remix of the item-picked-up-jingle from the Metroid Series. Ninja Edit: or errr, the "landed-for-the-first-time" jingle. :]

That train will never stop haunting me, I swear. Also, Bahamut, if it hasn't been suggested already, I'd say just go with the Rainwave radio stream. Even if it's not playing ocremixes all the time, I'd say it's better than nothing, and pretty relevant to the site. -

QFT Oh and requesting Lazytown and Steel B4 while we're at it. :] -
Yeah I made this for DoD and I'm debating whether I should finish it and submit it here. Really any feedback on the arrangement is more than welcome, enjoy.

A Demo will get totally raped by just about any class that manages to get in close (even engies or snipers) unless he has excellent aim with grenades, can predict his targets movements with stickies, or just gets lucky in melee. That said, if you round a corner and you meet a pyro, soldier or scout, you're dead. This is why I think the demoman is overall a very carefully balanced character, he has great mid and long-range capability (can go toe to toe even with soldiers and heavies), but his ability to fight at close range flat out sucks unless you have mad skills. Of course getting hit by a crit mid-air sticky can feel unfair, same goes for a soldiers crit missiles, but really any class can seem to have an unfair advantage in the hands of a capable player (especially scouts, I hate em), but, as far as I can tell, everything seems pretty well balanced. -

While I agree with the nerfing of the backburner, this essentially makes it inferior to the standard flamethrower, especially (or so I've heard) since the 100% crits from the back mechanic is kind of wonky. Compression blast for soldier pwnage over that any day. IMO the best solution would've been to nerf it to only grant +20-30 hp. Or just fix the crits mechanic. -

Well, dunno about you guys, but I had a blast yesterday, even if it cost me valuable hours of sleep (I dropped out somewhere after turbine, at 3:30 AM for me/9:30 PM EST). Teams seemed reasonably well-balanced and competent, and it seemed to me like everyone was having a lot of fun. Let's hope it'll be as good again today. Also, I like how Bahamut is now at the top of the list of people I killed. -
FL is a great way to start yeah. I'm pretty sure it'll run in Vista too, given it's regular updates etc. though you can't be too sure so it might be worth looking up. For keyboards, I always recommend the M-audio Axiom. They come with differing amounts of semi-weighted keys (I believe the most expensive one has 61 keys and costs around 300-350$), velocity sensitive drum pads, pitch and mod wheel, USB connection, and loads of other useful stuff to get you started out. Best thing is, they're not expensive at all, as the cheapest 25-key one is just over $200 (here in Europe). Mic & Mic Stand.. there's only one question needed here; Do you plan on recording instruments beside vocals? If yes, get the Shure SM57, which is pretty much the most universally used and recognized instrument+ vocal dynamic mic. If you want a dedicated vocal microphone go with the Shure SM58. Keep in mind that for both of these you'll need something like an audio interface or a pre-amp that connects to your pc and has an XLR-input. The easier way out might be buying a USB-mic (don't know which one is good but I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in one of the microphone-threads), which you would only need to plug in to get decent recording quality.

I would LOVE to attend M7. Problem is not money or anything, I just have no idea where to go since the US is big and scary, so I'd GREATLY appreciate it if someone could like, pick me up from the airport or something.

If you play any live instruments and have the means of recording them you're more than welcome to join up for a collab. Sorry for snagging this thing from under your nose but I had an unexpected burst of inspiration. :] -
It apparently has a 30-day money back guarantee, wouldn't that work for you?

This reminds me of that time when I wrote a short piece of erotic SkrypnykxAnSo fanfiction in #ocrwip. Ah, good times.

Need guitar info. Lots and lots of guitar info...
Tensei replied to Faustt's topic in Music Composition & Production
Guitar and/or Bass guitar are arguably among the easiest instruments to learn and probably the fastest to get to an intermediate level of playing (if you know how to practice effectively). I'm pretty sure that electric guitar is the only instrument that's more profitable to actually pick up and learn than having to clumsily sequence a track using a huge-ass expensive sample library (Yes, prominy LPC, I'm looking at you). Why not? -

It would help immensely if you posted a clip of the sound you made so I could tell you how to improve it. -

^^ Yes same here. That said, wouldn't it be a good idea to make a list (for now) of the songs that have been submitted so people can check whether their song wasn't left out accidentally? -
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 'IceCap Zone' (FEEDBACK)
Tensei replied to WillRock's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I love the mood you have going here, it's a very nice and soothing reinterpretation and the synth/synth guitar soloing reminds me of Protricities stuff in his heyday. Good stuff. Drums sound a bit lo-fi which tends to make the whole song sound cheap. Especially the kick could stand to be louder and have a fatter low end. When EQing I tend to give the kick substantial, narrowish boost around 50-60 Hz ( can be up to 10 dB if needed, just make sure it doesn't clip), cut everything between 300-1000 Hz from it (to accomodate the lower mids of other instruments, no more than about -5 dB), and give it another big, narrow boost between 3000-5000 Hz to bring out the click/attack (depends on the kick sound I'm going for). Don't be afraid to compare it to commercial tracks to determine exactly how loud the kick should be in the balancing of the mix. Snare is okayish considering it's a cheapo sample (at least it sounds like one ) , I wouldn't touch it any further, IMO it sits pretty well right now. Hi-hats are cheapo cheapo cheapo. But hell, what can you do . It might work if you used some sort of stereo seperation to widen the hi-hat a bit. I might be wrong but I think the velocity editing on the hi-hats and snare could be way more pronounced. Especially the snare roll at 1:10 sounds like AK-47 rifle fire because of the sample retriggering. When you're doing velocity editing on fast repeating samples always keep an eye on where a real drummer would place the accents. Say you have an 8th note hi-hat pattern (8 equally long hi-hat notes in one measure), I would place the strongest accent (about 90-100% of the velocity range) on the first and fifth note, the somewhat weaker accents (70%-80%) on the third and seventh note and the weakest ones (50-60%) on the rest (the second, fourth, sixth and eighth note). Note that a snare drum in rock music is usually played REALLY loud so you can get away with putting it at or near maximum velocity during normal beats (sounds best that way IMO), just remember that during rolls you should, again, change the velocity accordingly so it doesn't start to machine gun. IMO the lead synth that plays the main melody for most of the song should be a bit more interesting, it sounds kind of bland. LFO frequency cutoff modulation would add some movement to it and is pretty easy to set up. FM would work awesomely as well. In short, just experiment with it a bit, don't be afraid to add some effects like chorus and phaser to it. Anyway, keep it up, I think this is close enough to have a decent shot at getting past the panel, so it just needs some polish to seal the deal.
