  2. Dude, I don't understand this, I haven't had more than a few words with you in the last few months, so I don't see how you can interpret that as 'having something against you', I've just been busy, I haven't talked with anyone else from the forums. It's the fucking internet, I don't hold grudges agains people on the internet.
  3. What the hell even gave you the idea that I 'don't like you', I rarely even talk with you. And yes, no bias. Seriously, if you only like Prot and Zircon's stuff (whose pieces are VERY melody-based by the way) out of all the OCRemixers, then it's safe to say that you don't like music that generally gets accepted on OCR, thus it really wouldn't make sense to try and get accepted here because you would have to make music you apparently dislike I mean, if you look at people like Skrypnyk, who in my eyes generally make music that quite resembles your stuff ( what I would call no direction etc.), their mixes that actually got posted deviate a LOT from what they usually make (at least to my ears Skrypnyks stuff in #ocrwip is completely different from Last Night a DJ kidnapped Mallow). My point is, if you want to get accepted, you'll either have to conceed that your way of composition isn't effective for OCR and try a different, more structured/melodic approach or just say to yourself "Screw OCR, I want to make music my way". Remember, what is posted on OCR doesn't define good music, the only one who can define that for you is yourself.
  4. Hey, which site are we on again? OCR? I was under the impression that you were planning to submit this some time in the future, so I'm looking at this from what I consider the OCR standard. I try to keep my own opinions about music out of this, I just tell you what I think you need to do to stand any chances at the judges panel, and I know that you'll get no'd again if you submit a song with barely any cohesion/direction. Also: No it doesn't and no I can't. I'm not here to shove my 'ideals of making music' down your throat, I'm here to help you out, that's what the wip forum is for. If this were on youtube I'd probably post something along the lines of LOL ELECTRONIC MUSIC SUCXX and be done with it, but as I said, here I try to keep my feedback free of bias. I dedicated time and effort to give you an overview of what I think you should/could still improve, so stop taking it like a fucking personal attack. I don't understand why you call ME out while I gave a shitload of useful feedback and Neko for example was all like LOL MIDI RIP.
  5. Orchestral percussion is good. The brass/brasslike synth and the stringish pads sound like they're from the soundtrack to a really cheap 80's fantasy flick, so that's no good. The drum kit(?) that comes in after that is ridiculously swamped in reverb (especially the snare), while the hi-hat-like thingy is dry as fuck, why? Make the beats less random. Try to keep the bass-drum on beat 1 and 3 and the snare on 2 and 4, you can add crazy ghost notes and snare rolls after you've made a steady beat. The 'main' part after the intro seems drawn out and random, it needs coherence, a steady progression, a melody to catch the listener's attention, really, anything but long drawn-out pads doing seemingly random notes (though they're at least not dissonant this time around). Transition to the final section with the pulsing bass-drum and the choir is awkward though the section itself is a good idea, try to work on your transitions. The soundscape and general atmosphere is good, original instrumentation and all that, but that's old news. Work on your melodies, rhythm, chord progressions and the general structure of the piece, try to plan ahead and don't just enter the notes one by one. In short, try to keep a keen sight of the bigger picture. Also, how about making a mix not based on a midi rip next time?
  6. Wow this looks pretty goddamn brutal, if it gets decent reviews I might actually buy it. The fact that the protagonist looks like a combination of FFVII Cid and the protagonist from God Hand makes this so much more awesome
  7. This is..amazing, it sounds absolutely stunning. I couldn't have imagined how much more guitars could still evolve but this definitely holds promise for the future. Too bad my own guitar sounds like crap after hearing this
  8. Well duh, you're just describing a compressor/limiter now, that's basically what they do Edit: Oh never mind, I see what you mean now, I'm stupid
  9. I think this might be a bit too esoteric for people scrolling through here (compare to bluefox-threads). I mean I'm a guitar player and you have me bored for god's sake. I can't imagine any non-guitar players around here would even know what you're talking about. Also, your pic is broken.
  10. Haha that clean guitar riff sounds exactly like the riff in Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones I personally like the one with the middle pickup (single coil?) better, but there's really no particular reason. I guess it just feels better to me.
  11. What you're referring to is called a noise gate, or gating. I do know that this is possible in Reason, but I really have no idea how to do it, I just wanted to give you the name of it so you could maybe look it up on google or something
  12. Well golly gee Sherlock, whatever gave you that idea? Notice how I didn't quote you, notice how I didn't address you in any way, shape or form, notice how I definitely did NOT ask for a complete thesis on my post. Me not reading your posts is not a sign of me being arrogant, it's a sign of you writing TOO FUCKING MUCH. You want a discussion thread? Fine, but ensure other people are able to join the discussion by being straight to the point. Your problem is that you're assuming that ANYONE who posts in this thread is out here to get you and ANYTHING said is directed at you. Your assumption is wrong, so stop doing that.
  13. While this is an ancient post by this time, I have to respond. I was actually just posting my thoughts on it and happened to agree with OA, I wouldn't even try to get into this clusterfuck of a discussion thread because that would involve me having to actually read it. But hey, thanks for the 1000 word post you dedicated to me, I'm sure someone else would be very happy with it. Edit: NO YOU FUCKING DON'T. Comprehensive reading much? Where the hell is it written you have to stick to a "RELEVANT CONTEXT" and since when does it have to "CONVEY" anything? For all I care you could turn the Bubble Bobble theme into brutal death metal ( or hillbilly, to keep it relevant ). If it works as death metal, then fuck yeah, you're a great remixer because I sure as hell wouldn't be able to imagine that as death metal, yet you pulled it off. All this talk of purpose, context and conveying is pretentious musicologist bullshit. And I hate musicologists. It's just music, k?
  14. Agreed, the challenge of reconceptualizing a source in a remix of a totally different genre is IMO definitely greater than writing original music (And I have experience with both, so I know what I'm talking about ). The fact that you're used to hearing the source in a certain context, with the defined backing chords, rhythm and instrumentation makes it that much harder to reimagine it as something different, which is why I like this kind of remix (one that sounds totally different but where you can still easily recognize the source) best. If nothing else, making a remix of this kind (for example Corridors of time into a metal/hardrock mix, like I'm doing myself now ) is an incredibly good exercise for yourself as a composer since it covers so many vital areas( Instrumentation, chord progressions, orchestration, rhythmic stuff, etc.), whereas with the writing of original stuff you can basically just follow your instinct and get where you want through trial and error.
  15. TO EVERYONE WHO GOT LINKED HERE FROM YOUTUBE, NOIR6666 IS MY YOUTUBE ACCOUNT, THEREFORE THE VID ON THAT ACCOUNT IS THE ONLY GENUINE ONE, EVERYONE ELSE WHO'S TAKING CREDIT FOR THAT SONG IS LYING. TINDECK IS DOWN FOR NOW SO YOU CAN'T DOWNLOAD THE LINKS BELOW BUT I'VE UPLOADED THE FILE HERE TO PROVE THAT THIS IS REALLY DONE BY ME: http://www.speedyshare.com/536621972.html Because this source obviously hasn't been remixed enough I've decided to try my hand at it. I'll add an intro later when I feel like it, enjoy ~<3 (Source, because it's so obscure, obviously)http://www.tindeck.com/audio/filestore/d/dntm-Spitfire%20Food%20Pix.mp3 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ V. 2 http://www.tindeck.com/audio/filestore/q/qaau-Corroder%20of%20Time.mp3 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ V. 3 http://www.tindeck.com/audio/filestore/d/dqqa-Corroder%20of%20Time.mp3 Part 2 http://www.tindeck.com/audio/filestore/w/whky-Corroder%20of%20Time%202.mp3 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ V.4 FINAL (with awesome awesome strings & intro by Tweek) http://www.tindeck.com/audio/filestore/a/awod-Corroder%20of%20Time%20Combined.mp3
  16. Don't worry, some people actually, you know, follow the forum rules and do one post in a row at max.
  17. No, the pattern I do see is that Dhsu POLITELY asked you for some clarification on your use of deceitful/deceiving/blah and that you GOD FORBID might have been using a term incorrectly. The way you responded with AMAGAH STOP DERAILING THE THREAD when you were proven wrong on the dictionary definition( as well as perceiving this as an ATTACK OMG MUST DEFEND) is pretty much how I would expect a 4-year old to respond.
  18. So wait, you're referring to Dhsu's posts (or rather the 3 or so sentences where he corrects you on the use of 'deceitful/deceiving' AFTER YOU BROUGHT IT UP YOURSELF) as garbage, while you did a goddamn OCTUPLE POST of pretentious crap that nobody probably will even read on the first page? You're a very funny guy.
  19. Great thread idea, I love looking for this kind of stuff! I'll Start off with an obvious one, listen to the intro's. Uncanny isn't it? (yes I know Uematsu basically admitted he was inspired by the intro to purple haze) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnFSaqFzSO8
  20. I've always wanted to hear a mix done in this style, there's something about an open bluesrock jam that really appeals to me for some reason. Great performance throughout but DAMN those drums hurt it a lot, they're such obvious midi that it takes away the illusion of a live jam. Still awesome stuff though.
  21. ^this Please use tindeck.com, soundclick.com, or even speedyshare.com, anything that doesn't require you more than two clicks to download, you're the one who wants people to listen to this so make it easy for them.
  22. http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/searchText.php knock yourself out (search for "applause")
  23. Please don't get discouraged from remixing because of some negative, though constructive feedback. Believe me when I say I've heard a LOT worse than this and I can see you have definitely potential for improvement. The problem wasn't any inherent lack of musicality or talent, it's just that, as you have stated yourself, you can't do a lot with the rest of the source to fit your style, which really isn't your fault but rather because of the source/style you chose. Don't give up
  24. This mix really isn't all that bad, it's just that nothing really stands out and everything sounds generic. Production is ok, the lead synths could definitely do with some kind of LFO FM or Frequency cutoff modulation or something similar to keep the whole thing moving. The main problem is the INCREDIBLE amount of repetition. The source has SEVERAL great riffs but you stick to that one from the beginning to the end which makes me lose interest after the first quarter of the mix. There's also really no interpretation going on, you're basically using a small portion of the source as the base for your remix and having a few different synths doing some noodling over it. Definitely try to incorporate either more of the source or just some original stuff. Good luck! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbTC7NHPc5A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNj-slamlO0&feature=related You were saying?
