  1. I have this "Games n Music" thing by Datel. It's for the DS though. It's pretty nifty. It can play videos, music, and home brewed games. Only cost me $25. http://www.datel.co.uk/press_release.asp?i=133
  2. I might be able to participate in this. I have already created a nice melody and if I have time to expand upon it in the next couple days you can expect a entry from me.
  3. You can add another guy to the list for Dallas cause I also live around there. I have'nt ever seen anyone else wearing an OCR shirt. But I hope I'll see some people wearing OCR clothing when/ if I go to the Video Games Live concert coming up in Dallas. Tickets go on sale tommorow!
  4. Well, it doesn't look like I'm going to have an entry. I have a song, but it still needs some work and I don't think it really fits the theme all that well. I look forward to listening and voting tomorrow.
  5. I was kinda thinking of remixing something from Spyro for fun a couple days a ago, so I might give this a try.
  6. I hope to take part in this, but so far I have not gotten much inspiration to do a song based on this theme. Hopefully I'll figure something out.
  7. Man guys, this last episode was beautiful. Playing "Deliverance of the Heart" at the end was awesome. Good luck with your lives and I still hope to see ya'll around OCR. THE SPIRIT OF VGDJ WILL LIVE ON!!!
  8. Okay, I got a WIP started for Skull Man: http://www.sendspace.com/file/umsc8t I'm going for a kinda latin dance/salsa style. I'm mainly trying to get the arrangement down first, so I have'nt really done much with the quality of the samples yet. The guitar, which is live, sounds really bad right now and I think it's out of tune, but I'm going to play around with recording some more until I can get some pretty good quality sound. I plan on adding a lot more onto it, but this is all I have for right now.
  9. Ya, Dafydd, you can go ahead and sign me up for Skull Man. I hope to have the WIP out pretty soon (working on it right now).
  10. Dude, this is pretty good. The intro is really nice. The pad stuff in the back could be a bit better, but it sounds a lot better than your really early WIP. I still think it lacks percussion. The guitar solo at :52 is a keeper. Really nice. After that it's just kinda empty though. The guitar that comes in after that is okay, but could use some work. And whatever that is playing with the guitar gets kinda annoying. You should change it up or turn it down. The ending sounds pretty unorganized. I think it's that snare drum that is screwing it up. Does'nt keep a beat at all... The main thing is IT NEEDS SOME PERCUSSION. I mean on some parts it's fine without perc., such as the first guitar solo, but I still think it could possibly use some on some parts. Just play around with some snares, hi hats, and stuff. Whatever you want. I think this is pretty good. It is still a long way from OCR quality, but I think it could get there.
  11. http://www.sendspace.com/file/7rh3li Here's an updated version. I made the piano sound a bit more human and made a few minor changes.
  12. Not bad, for a first remix. This style is really different from any other Gerudo Valley remixes I've heard. The clarinet that your using could be better, but it's not that bad. You did a pretty good amount of variation and changes for a first mix. A lot of ones that I've listened have had no variation at all. I like what you did to the melody at 1:05. Sounds pretty good. The only problems with this is that it's a little short and it may seem a little boring to some people. You should probably add some more parts or have the melody switch to another instrument at some point. It would make it a bit more interesting A good first mix. I hope to hear more!
  13. I might be interested in Skull Man. I don't know if I'm good enough to work on this project, but it's worth a try. Here's a Mega Man X Mix that I am currently working on: http://www.sendspace.com/file/7rh3li I know that some of the samples are not all that great, but I"m working on fixing that. I'll have a WIP for Skull Man soon, if you would rather me audition with that.
  14. This is my second WIP for OCR. It is a remix of "Dr's Light's Capsules" from Mega Man X. Below is a link to a midi file of the origianl: http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/Capsule.mid I can't really name the style of this song. It startd out as possibly being in a rap-style, and then I added some more orchestral elements, and then the organ. I hope you enjoy it and I appreciate all reviews/ comments. http://www.sendspace.com/file/pzrfyf I also put in two other Mega Man themes from Mega Man previous to Mega Man X. I'll see if you can tell what they are...
  15. Man I love Metal Harbor. It's one of my favorite Sonic songs. Okay let's see what we got here. Panning at the beginning is'nt very good. I would'nt pan the guitar all the way to one side. It does'nt sound that bad when you listen to it on external speakers, but when you listen to it on ear phones, on one side it's just nothing. Makes me think my earphones are broken. I like it at 0:08 where the song really starts. The only problem is you just leave it like that and don't make much changes. I would at least expect some drums to come in before the guitar melody starts at 0:17. And that's another problem: drums. There are basically none in this. There is that snare-drumish thing at the end, but that is'nt supplying your song with much of a beat. I think your song would sound a lot better once you get some percussion going in your song, cause it sounds pretty empty right now. The only other thing that could be worked on is it sounds pretty similar to the original. You may want to change some parts, add some original stuff, etc. So, this is a pretty decent start. The main things you need to fix are: *put in some percussion *don't make it sound exactly like the original And I know you said this is an early WIP, so don't take any of this stuff too harshly. Just doing my best job to help.
  16. This is pretty good. I really like the atmosphere that you set up at the beginning with the acoustic guitar and awesome percussion. The lead guitar sounds pretty good for most of the song. I like the flute in the back, it adds to the light atmosphere. Overall it's a pretty good mix in my opinion the only problems is that it could be a little longer(and I know you said you were gonna extend it) and it's just a bit to close to the original. You might want to play around with the melody a bit or add some of your own stuff. This would be easy to do if you make it a bit longer. You could add some solos and junk into it. If you really wanted lyrics for the song, I'm pretty decent at writing lyrics, but I can't really sing. I'd have to play around with the song for a while. Just trying to help. Keep up the good work!
  17. This is a pretty cool idea. You could make a really cool mario mix using a harmonica, you just need the right stuff to back the melody up. And there are a couple parts (mainly the beggining) where it sounds nothing like Mario but your supposed to add some stuff like that in a mix. I got a harmonica for Christmas but I'm not anywhere near playing Mario on it yet. I hope to hear more from you.
  18. I got Magix Music "Maker" 10 a couple months ago. I didn't like it much cause there wasn't really anyway to sequence. Magix Music "Studio" looks a little bit better though. The two programs look somewhat similar so I may be able to help you out on some questions if you have any.
  19. Wow, this is beautiful. I really enjoyed listening to it. I only have two problems with it. First off, your piano sounds sorta out of tune to me. I don't know if that's what it is, it just sounds like some pianos I've played before that were out of tune. The other thing is that the ending is just to sudden. It seems like with a piece this beautiful it shouldn't just jolt to an end. You should make an ending that will match the rest of the song and leave listners thinking about how beautiful that was instead of "where did the music go?". This is just my opinion though, it doesn't have to be changed. But other than those two, the recording quality seems pretty decent and the arrangment itself is just amazing. Good Job! And if your still looking for names the only one I could think of while I was listening to it was "Morning of a New Sun".
  20. Okay, the beggining is a bit too repetitive and that bass drum you have going is a bit to loud. These two factors combine to make the intro a little annoying. You haven't done anything with the melody. It sounds exactly like the original. You just added drums and repeated some parts over and over again. This is'nt that bad if your just making it for fun but if you plan on submitting this to OCR you might want to do more than repeat parts and add drums. Play around with the meldoy, add parts, and try some other things. You could try building off of this or whatever you want. The main thing that bothers me about this is that bass drum. IT JUST POUNDS AND POUNDS AND POUNDS. Unless your trying to give people a headache I'd turn it down some or change drums. You should also try to repeat parts a little less, it gets a little iritating. Otherwise a good start but it's gonna need a lot of work.
  21. Um, is this from SMW or just Super Mario Bros. cause it sounds like the SMB overworld theme to me. I forgot if it's in SMW or not. Just asking. Well, it's okay, but it sounds like you just changed the instruments and added drums and stuff. If your gonna try remixing a theme that has been remixed plenty of times already you should try to do something new with it. Play around with the melody, switch parts around, add parts, etc... I like the style, so maybe you could keep that.
  22. Thanks for the extension! I got caught up and Christmas stuff and forgot to finish my entry up. I'll be sure to have it in by tomorrow.
  23. Some guitar equipment Final Fantasy 3 DS Halo PC Harmonica Alarm Clock Cash And my favorite...getting sick on Christmas Eve
  24. http://ia310926.us.archive.org/1/items/The_Wind_of_Warmth2/The_Wind_of_Warmth3.mp3 Here's an update. I tried to fix some things that some guys in #ocrwip said could be better. The main thing I changed was the drumline. I made it a bit more complicated and beefed it up some. I don't know if it's that good of a bear but I think that it's better than what I had before.
  25. Okay. I like the beginning it sounds pretty cool. When the kick comes in I think it's a bit too loud. You could probably turn it down some and add some more percussion. I'm feeling the organ-like instrument at 1:50. You may want differ up what it's playing cause it gets a little repetitive. It sounds really refreshing at 2:37. The sound is a lot more clear. When the melody comes in it sounds pretty good it's just a bit too loud. This part would sound awesome if you simply added some more percussion because that one kick is'nt doing much by itself. Play around with some claps, hi hats, etc. Gets a little repetitive near the ending but I think if you just added some variation and possibly more parts it could sound pretty good. Overall it's pretty decent. It's a lot better than the first WIP. The main things I would alter would be: *More Percussion *More variation on some parts (organ, ending) *Add some chords or something in the back to make it sound less empty (unless that's what you were going for) Otherwise fairly decent. Keep up the good work!
