  1. Does this work with regular video game music?
  2. It has to be based on a video game song first off, but it needs to be substantially arranged so that it's different enough from the source so that it's not just a straight cover. That means that some segments of the song can be originally-written, derivative material, but the source tune has to be dominant in the song if you want it to get past the Judges.
  3. I have to disagree here - this feels pretty unconventional, partly due to the chosen source material, but it feels completely cohesive and organic. While the cello is nice, it's not just the live instruments that gives this mix personality. Every element of the soundscape comes together to make this mix memorable and unique. One of my favorite DKC remixes, killer job!
  4. Dude, this would be so much better than a vocal-less mix! I may be in the minority but I thought the rapping was awesome, fit the mood of the song, and had pretty great lyrics to boot. Pretty please? :3
  5. Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but I don't see how speeding up the judging process would actually fix anything. As much as I like looking at the queue just for the hell of it, the holdup doesn't seem to be on their end. There's, what, 30 mixes to be posted right now? The real bottleneck seems to be with DJP actually posting the mixes to the front page. With only one person posting mixes, it doesn't matter how fast mixes are getting judged, the overall posting speed will be the same. Of course, I completely understand why djp can't speed up the pace on those considering his incredibly busy life, and I wouldn't want to sacrifice his brilliant writeups by bringing someone else on board, either. I'm not really sure how things could be sped up overall
  6. I have to agree with The Mutericator-- the soundtracks that have been so focused down to one single genre have been very forgettable for me, on the whole. Don't get me wrong, I think there was a lot of talent involved in both Relics and Chrono Symphonic, if you're not a fan of orchestral or ambient there's just not a lot to like about them, despite the effort that was put in by the contributing artists. These kind of albums alienate a lot of people, unfortunately. Theives of Fate, DQD and Voices of the Lifestream were fully cohesive and listenable as whole albums, but they had a lot of genre variety between songs.
  7. I always end up unconsciously playing parts of this arrangement whenever I'm improving on the piano. It really sticks in your head One of the first piano mixes I discovered off this site, so it holds a special place in my heart for that reason alone
  8. Fun stuff I love the subtlety of the non-chiptune elements in your song. It's breezy, appropriate for the source, doesn't overstay its welcome, and just makes me happy Love your work, halc, keep pumping this stuff out! And finish your Majora's Mask mix!
  9. Exactly what I was coming in here to say. If you're really motivated and you've done your homework, it's possible to succeed and I'd wish you all the best of luck with the project if you end up moving forward with it As far as I'm concerned you've got more credibility and reputation than Foxhull did when he started the Xenogears project and that project got finished despite some setbacks and opposition, so if you're up for it I think it's something within your reach. Plus, any project spearheaded by you has the potential to be that "EVERY TRACK IN THIS PROJECT IS BY BLINDD" project that BGC referenced in another thread, and we'd all love for that to happen
  10. Bahaha, there was a part of the synth solo that I could have sworn was an homage to Dragonforce This is pretty badass dude, but I have to agree with the evktalo on this, the whole vocals section seemed out of place and didn't really go with what you'd set up in the song thus far. That being said, the lyrics themselves were pretty neat and everything after the vocals was great! Loved the violin for the few parts that it came in for I like this a lot more than the other Remix generation mixes posted so far (which were both very good, granted) but I think this should have won.
  11. Hey, good luck getting your DKC mix past the Judges :) I thought the arrangement was fantastic!

  12. Um... why? If you just want to hit up the concert, you should be perfectly in the clear regardless of what age you are
  13. Apparently the concert is actually for people 21 and under, as well, so you should be in the clear It's the convention that the concert's a part of that requires you to be over 21.
  14. Well, the last time Abadoss sent in a last-minute collab. for a project, it turned out to be one of the best songs on the album, so I fully expect the same to happen here! I'm pretty psyched for this, a lot of my favorite mixers are showing up here so I'm guessing there's gonna be a lot of gems on this one!
  15. Oh, I don't think I'm good enough to get onto any project yet. I just meant that I like keeping up with the "Progress charts" of all the various OCR projects and seeing which artists are involved with each track. Things like that
  16. Seeing as how I'm a huge project whore, do you think it'd be within your reach to post one of those spiffy little lists on the first post like all the other projects have, complete with fancy colors, so I can stalk your progress and needlessly hype myself up for this project? xD ... when you're not sick, of course Feel better soon!
  17. Tru dat! I've put in almost 2000 listens to this album's tracks combined, and I have to say that "The Skies Hold No Angels for Us" is the best, without a contest. Completely moody, atmospheric, and downright-beautiful at times. It didn't quite hit me with the first listen, but by the 50th listen I'm pretty sure it's become one of my all-time favorite rock songs! Brilliant job, audio fidelity and Level 99
  18. So, are these concert-only tickets purchased at the door or can we reserve them somewhere? I didn't see anything on the advertisement about that.
  19. No way! I'm all over this! Thanks a lot for the heads-up! I'm gonna see if I can get some friends on board with this, too.
  20. Beautiful harmonies throughout the song, there are several moments throughout the song that just grab your attention and hold onto it. All of the elements of the song are very cohesive, it always impresses me when collabs like this feel so natural
  21. Seriously though, you guys are awesome. I'm gonna find a way to see you live sooner or later
  22. Of course, you've gotta be 21 or older Dammit, this is right next to my house, too. Maybe I'll sneak over to the lot next to the convention and see if I can hear you guys playing Just play really loudly for me, please
  23. Surprised to see that this incredible track has gotten so few reviews! I can't offer much technical criticism, but I know what I like and I definitely like this! You've got a way of picking instrument samples that compliment each other perfectly. You've created a wonderful atmosphere that's easy to chill out to, but it's got enough motion to also keep the song interesting and engaging throughout.
  24. Just like all your other songs, it's brilliant all the way until the end. The only thing left is to finish it There's not a lot of melodic variation going on with the actual source though, and it feels sandwiched between the solos. The solos are expertly written and they sound pretty good within the context of the song, but if you're going for OCR-quality you probably won't pass the judge's requirements for source usage at the rate you're going, unless there's something else that I'm missing. When you get to writing more of the song, maybe try and vary the main source melody up just a bit so it doesn't grow stale. You seem to be pretty good with this in your other WIPs, so I doubt that will be much of a problem. Parts of this song remind me of your orignal composition, "Falling from Heaven," which I recently discovered and has quickly become one of my top played songs. I just wanted to compliment you on that because that song has really stuck with me lately and I think you did a bang-up job with it! P.S. I want your sound library! The piano, drums, etc. are exactly the kind of sounds I'd like to use when I start making music
