To clarify, the winner's track MIGHT be included on a later CD release of the game's soundtrack.

Update x2

I don't know about movie-score quality, but I appreciate the compliment . Do people really want a guide or tutorial video for something like The Galaxy Awaits?

Wow, FS2 coverage, such a great game. -The pad starting at :07 has some resonant freqs which are a bit hard on the ears. Esp :21 - :25. Cut back around 2k maybe or so. Also, it's a bit exposed, might try pushing it back in mix with some verb or pan spacing. -Cool general vibe here, esp 1:02. I'm still not really hearing a hook here, but it would be great BGM for a game soundtrack similar to FS2. Kind've an old school feel. -It's a great feel, though the song kind've slowly/minimally evolves over time. First real change was around 3:24 to a new feel, so that was good, though maybe slightly overdue. -oooh cool sub hit at 3:41, makes me hope for some sort of break/d'n'b groove to really start kicking in and pick up the energy. Good sounds and feel throughout this. Again, it sounds a lot like BGM rather than standalone piece, but not necessarily a bad thing. Ok, so personal taste-wise, I'd say cut down a bit on length of that first section, and kick up the energy more with a good beat on the buildup later. But hey, it's your song, do what you want

I'm guessing it's the drivers for your sound card. I've had the same problem previously where the makers stripped out the ability to select Stereo Mix as a recording option (apparently, pressure from the RIAA or something to prevent recording, but who knows). My issue was on a dell laptop with it's default drivers. Googling the issue eventually led me to a set of drivers from the same manufacturer that allowed recording. Anyway, if you can locate drivers for the card that allow Stereo Mix recording, you should be set.

Babil is pretty much done. You KNOW you want to mark it complete. -
Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted anything here. "Finished" this one a while back for a remix contest, but I'm revisiting it and making a few changes for OCR: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/SSF2-Vega_12.mp3 Let me know what you think. EDIT: Should mention my mixing headphones are broken, so using some not so great backups. Can't really hear if it's mixed well until they're fixed/I buy new phones.

Don't worry, I've been holding OA up on it for about 3 weeks. Now you have time to do it. -

OCRA-0013 - Tales: Summoning of Spirits
Nutritious replied to KyleJCrb's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
The alternate version is the original "final" track. The album version was created after some feedback from the judging panel regarding source usage. They're still similar tracks, but several parts were rearranged and mixed differently for the main album version. -

Maybe because it took you about 5 minutes to record the guitars on our collab? -

Hey, glad you liked it (I think?). To be fair, though there is some Go Over Adversity also mixed in the middle as a breakdown/bridge - hence the title. Looks like that source listing didn't make it on the website. It should be when it hits the OCR front page I think. -
MechWarrior 2 W95, TE, and 3DFX on Windows XP... plus extras!
Nutritious replied to The Coop's topic in General Discussion
Wow, nice. I'm a pretty big MW2 fan myself. Played through the Dos version not too long ago using DosBox. I've actually wanted to pick up the TE for quite sometime now. This is good reason to do it. Seriously? I never knew about this. That's pretty lame. Maybe it would be better to just pick up the addons separately since I already have the original? -
Personally, I use EWQLSO Silver Edition. Great sound out of the box at a reasonable price. There are other common options like Garritan Personal Orchestra that others here use. By the way, what sequencer are you using?

Oh man, just listened to this on youtube. This brings back memories. The whole soundtrack does. I'm gonna keep listening for any ideas I get.

Getting tracks loud enough
Nutritious replied to GarretGraves's topic in Music Composition & Production
I wouldn't recommend any effects on the master track besides EQ, Compressors, or Limiters. Trying to "widen" the mix on the master is probably just going to make a mess. For now, take everything off the master track except the pocket limiter. I'd leave the knee alone for now and only adjust the gain until you get a decent volume level without squashing the mix horribly (depending on how well it's mixed beforehand, this shouldn't really happen anyway). Obviously, there's much more that goes into mastering, but you need to be able to understand the concept of how compression/limiting works and how it changes the sound of your mix. Still, to a certain extent, there should be enough compression on the mix to bring it up to acceptable volume levels. I don't know about everyone else, but I find it annoying when I have to constantly raise or lower the volume just to be able to hear tracks clearly. This doesn't negate the fact, though, that you shouldn't overcompress to the point where you lose all dynamics either. It's a balancing act. -

What DS said. Even zoomed in completely, automation clips aren't very precise when it comes to tempo. Events are the way to go.

How Can I Get FL to detect my microphone?
Nutritious replied to Incronaut's topic in Music Composition & Production
Make sure you don't have any other music applications (windows media player, youtube, ANYTHING utilizing sound) outside of FL Studio when you start asio4all. Also, make sure in your midi settings (F10) you don't have any midi ports currently enabled (set them to -, rather than a port number) -
Fortunately, playing the games isn't a prerequisite for joining the project.
