I told Pleiade (with whom I arranged Sanctuary on the Wild Arms album) about this concept and he thought it was quite cool, he'd be interested in contributing!

Looking forward to watching that one, like each one! I've enjoyed all the shows since I last commented. Especially the TMNT one, though I sadly missed that one (thanks for the shout outs folks!). That one is especially worth watching for the screenshare insights of FoxxDragon's cover art and José's trailer, fascinating stuff!

Hmm. How about a character that tags along with the good guys but does not take part in battles or does nothing the player can control? Only shows up in story bits having an advisor-type role.

Oh yes, this is.. tight, varied & cohesive, creative.. Not exactly my kind of prog but I very much appreciate the prog sensibilities in any case. To me it sounds very accessible too. The placement of the lead synths in the mix, especially the chippier one, felt a bit separate from the rest of the instrumentation. That's about all the criticism that comes to mind. Very neat stuff, my favourite bit probably being 1:19-1:31. Made me check the sources; I really like Mars Lighthouse! The emotive solo at the end was also very well done. --Eino

Castle of Illusion on Master System!

Hey it's a favourites thread! So many great games, soundtracks & memories. I'll just mention two: for the Master System; classic 8-bit tunage in this almost metroidvania platformer for the Mega Drive; superb fun tactical RPG, with really great sound from the machine (I also thoroughly enjoyed Shining Force Gaidens II and III on Game Gear emulator recently). Honestly back in the day I didn't have the appreciation for the 16-bit Sega's sound I have now and considered SNES's sample-based sound much superior.. until this soundtrack made me open my ears!ReMixes: Halls of Abandonment "sold" OCR to me (from Alisia Dragoon) Rare Mineral Addict is classic Shnabubula goodness from a fantastic soundtrack from a super fun game that I had a privilege experiencing in its own time (Landstalker) Burnt Mota and Mama Brain kind of take the good bits of Phantasy Star II's music.. and make them super good! Inside the Roadhouse from Zillion Five-Sided Square from Shining Force CD (the source is originally from Shining Force Gaiden II for Game Gear) Down In The Dungeon Just Creatures And Me - some more Shining series goodness (Shining In The Darkness) Killer Studio Chops from Prime is pretty cool and fun, it's a Sony game for Sega CD - not sure if you wanted games developed/published by Sega or just for Sega machines though A huge chunk of Be Aggressive! Hey, pretty sweet that Rexy mentioned my Ristar arrangement. I *really* need to pick it up and give it some more work.

The attack of the french? horn sound in the beginning sounds kind of abrupt, like it cuts off with each new note. Does the tempo increase during the piece? I liked that, even if I'm hearing things. The mixing sounds a bit cluttered when more and more instruments come in; it might benefit from deciding that some instruments should stand back and others take the front, and even alternate this during the song. For instance, the strings could be further back in the mix in my opinion (after the intro), and the piano could also be mixed lower when there are other leads going on. You can mix say the piano lower in certain parts and bring it up in others. It cuts out at 3:16 right? Overall an enjoyable arrangement, I liked the instrumentation and the way it was growing.

I thought participating would be easy for me, turns out I was delusional. Hence I haven't unfortunately been able to take part, sorry about that (I did translate some of the Safety Dance into Finnish though ). This pick is fantastic though, I have to say that. I feel like sharing , maybe it'll inspire people.--Eino

I heard A Rose for Zelda on VGMix before, which was a slightly different version. I'm not 100% sure what exactly brought me to OCR. I was actively seeking video game arrangements thanks to being a fan of Axes Denied. I ended up reading somewhere how OCR is just a bunch of elitist snobs and thought well, I'm not going there. Then I heard Halls of Abandonment - from the site or somewhere else, I can't remember - and couldn't ignore the site. Turns out I'm an elitist snob myself!
