  1. Consider from UFO: Enemy Unknown (aka XCOM: Ufo Defence) - take part both in People's Remixing Competition #251 and in the PC ReMix initiative with single stone! (:--Eino
  2. My pick for People's Remixing Competition #251 is from UFO: Enemy Unknown (aka XCOM: Ufo Defence), the classic strategy/tactical combat game from Julian Gollop (etc, music by John Broomhall), published by Microprose in 1994. (There's also a theme from Ristar usable in the round).I think one can do a lot with this piece, lots of material there! I hope we get a good number of submissions, and hopefully some will eventually land on OCR - please consider taking part in the compo if the track is familiar to you or it inspires you! And if you happen to win the round, you get to pick a familiar PC soundtrack piece for the next round! (: --Eino
  3. That's what university's for. +1 Tuberlove --Eino
  4. Cool! I don't have the opportunity to update my track, but I'm happy I can participate with what I have. Uploaded! --Eino
  5. Oops, failed to observe the deadline being a bit earlier than usual. Misc. Robotics Source: Cave Story - Mischievous Robot Completely unpolished, but I did get the full structure down. I recorded two simple guitar tracks, both are one take but the other is edited a bit. I had very little time to come up with the synth & organ parts or to vary up the drums. Well, it's supposed to be kind of a "steady" piece.. I referenced On To Grasstown and Moonsong in the later solo section. cheers! --Eino
  6. Yeah, I was thinking of posting some previous track(s), updated, as bonus mixes.. but you can only post one track per account (the compo rules allow posting several, but it's just difficult technically) so I'm not sure I'll bother (: Anyway, I think it's a good idea! --Eino
  7. Looks like you made it, congrats! Hope you still get a good bunch of pledges. I haven't had the time to check the available build out, but it sure sounds promising. Good luck with the project! --Eino
  8. Sounding good! --Eino
  9. Changing to mod review along with this trivial update: Final candidate 2 * faded the beginning in better & cut the too long delay tail at the end edit: Some source breakdown. Source use starts at 0:25. The basic building block from the source is the figure that plays at . I've offset it a bit relative to the beat, and used it as the bassline. The blop-blip that starts at 00:39 and evolves to a more proper melody at 0:54 is also based on that figure. The faster figure that plays in the background at 1:26 (and elsewhere) is also based on this figure, and in spirit to the faster figure that plays at the very start of the source (but I think just the first four notes are the same). I think that's all I've used from the source, there's lots of cool material that I skipped/replaced. The bassline plays throughout and much of the melodic material is derived from the same figure. The riff that plays in the breakdown starting at 1:27 is the same thing as the bassline, only now placed on the beat, instead of offbeat like the bassline. --Eino
  10. Yeah, I should probably try how far I can get in Normal. I only have the Engi ship unlocked, too. --Eino
  11. I'm out of town when the deadline ends, so I realized I must actually finish the mix before traveling. So, I've started my Mischievous Robot mix. --Eino
  12. That teaches me to leave the answering to judges in this thread. --Eino
  13. There is, look at the "last edited" notices at the bottom of the posts. The title hasn't been updated. --Eino
  14. Wow! Congratulations to all of your family Dave! indeed! --Eino
  15. They didn't have any. I had a chocolate-covered donut. It didn't feel right. Next year, I hope to be better prepared for the Pretzelday. --Eino
  16. I like the relaxed pace. I like how the organ stays put at the start. The sound is quite muddy, but pleasantly warm and lo-fi. I believe you can have the pleasantness without the muddiness, I think for instance the overall sound is a bit bass-heavy. The biggest cripe is that, when the bass starts moving, there's some serious disharmony on the third chord especially, either the bass needs to change a bit or the other writing should follow the bass. I think I like how the bass moves, since it adds a new thing to the original, so the other writing should be adjusted. It's very close though! There's some interesting tension in there, but there's probably just a note or a couple there that make it sound jarring (in a bad way). I also like those percussive bits right at the end. This reminds me of something I used to listen to long time ago, and I can't recall it at all. Pretty neat! --Eino
  17. That'd be cool (: I'd better make my piece then! --Eino
  18. That is extremely well said. I think I shall grab a pretzel later on. --Eino
  19. I see you're doing lots of reviews, I wanted to give you kudos for that!

  20. Happy birthday mr. Puga! --Eino
  21. Final candidate 1 changes: * more attention to mixing the leads * added a subtle pad and fx'd percussion to fill things out All of the above criticism probably isn't addressed, but I hope this is nearing a passable status. Comments much appreciated! --Eino
  22. Cool of you to offer this, groovy demo, I'll keep this in mind! --Eino
  23. Cool, still (and why not) looking forward to hearing this thing! --Eino
  24. Cool to see this game getting remixed! Love the first riff on the guitar & the flanged syncopated beat on the background. I get a really good 90s vibe from that, like Apollo 440's Ain't Talkin' 'bout Dub with the Van Halen sample.. anyway! Great opening and lots of promise. It feels that the next section with the piano melody lacks energy a bit.. it's like the guitar riff is too loud and attention-demanding for just yet in this part of the song. Giving a bit more spotlight to the melody, and then brining up the guitar might work for better flow. I don't think there's anything wrong with the riff itself but with the overall flow of the piece. Take time to develop! The faster riff behind the same part later on works well. I hope I can listen and comment again when you have more of the arrangement done! --Eino
