  1. Nice work on the covers - they're pretty spot on, considering some of the tracks are pretty complicated, tonally. There are mistakes, from time to time, but it's not bad at all. As for doing OCR 'ReMixes', it'd be an interesting thing to dabble in, if you're comfortable with the dictation aspect of it. I like covers too, though .
  2. Hmm... Wasn't Darkesword's track supposed to be posted with the release? Whenever it's posted (or if it's posted) this'll get quite a bit more site publicity, I suspect.
  3. I don't remember the mix being too bad, really. Don't worry about your skills, you have what it takes, judging from what you posted here. As for my comments... Creepy - it was an eerie arrangement. I'm sure that's due to the source, but hey, nothing wrong with that. I like it. Smashing - I meant 'Good'. Right now I'm sick and slightly incoherent, so... sorry that you thought it meant something else. I really liked the bass - it was thick and juicy. Piercing - as the others said; the guitar shoots out too far to the front, right now. It needs to be mixed down a bit. Texture - The approach to the harmonies in your mix are strictly block chords. While it's fitting, considering the minimalist approach, you use them too much and they begin to sound dull. Slow arpeggiations could be used periodically, or even a creepy slow waltz could fill the harmonies every so often. It'll help break up the static nature of the arrangement. I'd speak for Rozo, but... well, he can speak for himself, when he gets to it (I'm not gonna do the work for him, eh? ). This mix has potential behind it, don't be discouraged. I hope my explanations help.
  4. I don't believe you. LIES are coming from your mouth! Admit your tracker love to everybody!
  5. Anyone think Gearbox will accept the pre-orders people have been holding onto for 13+ years, if they release the game, finally?
  6. Ahh... isn't this the wrong place for this remix? It'd probably get more feedback in the Remix WIP forum, anyway... Very creepy mix. The bass is smashing, and the guitar is... piercing. You might want to tone that down in the highs. It's pretty minimalist, but not bad. You could use a bit more texture in it periodically (vs the choral-style chords). It is short, and it doesn't do much with the theme. If you were planning on getting on OCR with it, it'd be wise to fix those issues. I liked it, nonetheless.
  7. Aww... don't be too hard on yourself - I see no harm in dreaming (that's generally a good place to start, if you want to achieve it someday). Well, to be honest, there are issues with the arrangement that are... off. Namely, some of the notes are incorrect. Strings at 1:15, for example, and the harp at 1:25. These things come in later, with the same mistakes. Listen to the source and compare again - you'll hear the difference. The production is unbalanced. There are a lot of melodic elements that are being put to the back of the mix (and texture that's being shot to the front). In particular, that harp is faaar to loud. Use the mixer to lower the overall volume on that track. Look at the other tracks as well and balance the sound so the melodies + themes are more salient than the textures + harmonies. The samples are pretty basic (I'm guessing FL presets). Look for some plugins and replace the presets asap. There's nothing wrong with getting the right tools early, eh? There are threads here dedicated to that, so look into them. I like the rain effect. The arrangement was relatively accurate (except, of course, the things I mentioned). I see no reason to bash yourself when this is your first foray into the remixing world. Just take a look at this thread and this thread for a second and realize everyone needs to start somewhere, eh? Good luck with it
  8. It's minimalism (like, from the 60's minimalism). Yes, the genre really does average at roughly 30min a song, so mine's short in comparison, believe it or not. I suspect it's going to really be a hit-or-miss track, but I'm fine with that. Also, WOOT! It's out for the public to enjoy! Glad to be a part of it .
  9. You've been posted - The album is released :)

    Figured you'd like to know.

  10. WOOT! Shit, I missed this by a day... ...and lol at the fact that mine takes not one, but TWO youtube movies . Alright, let's get some publicity going, here!
  11. I wouldn't let a 1990 Nintendo World Champion go without sending some birthday wishes, would I? I wish you the best, man, and keep makin' sweet music .
  12. Fun track - we're going for the all-out Hollywood sound here, eh? Neat . Hmm... I'm not familiar with the source, but I have some comments on the production, anyway. The drums are really, really cool, but they drown the rest of the sound. They really need to be mixed as not to completely envelop the rest of the sound so much. The lyrical strings seem to have too much attack on them. Not every note needs to be drawn out - in real life, only the first note of every phrase would be drawn, followed by every other note connecting seamlessly (not including the slight variance due to upstroke/downstroke motion). The texture strings are a bit mechanical, although I can hear the variation in volume in an effort to make it less so. The piano is glaringly mechanical, though - we need some more dynamic variation and reverb, there. The texture is a bit static throughout. Be sure to add some variety in the instrument functions from time to time. Fun track, but be sure to give the production another look. Hope this helps.
  13. ... Perhaps this is a good time to upgrade from Reason 3.0?
  14. .Also, I learned that jumping in midair is a piece of cake (Smash Bros).
  15. Never talk to someone more than twice. They never have anything else to say. (RPGs) Everyone (and I mean everyone) can load a gun about as fast as this guy. It's nothing special. (FPS)
  16. I'm happy you're still with Jade No more birthday wishes from me - more like general happiness for you, bLiNd (and Jade). Unfortunately that pretty much is an everyday thing you guys probably receive all the time, so nothing special, right?
  17. If someone is going to do it, I feel that they're going to go to Rozo, first. Considering that's one of the few tracks he's missing for ihs album, and all Still, it's nice to search for some musicians for him
  18. Megaman Z, where all the mega Z fighters compete in the world tournament! MEGA COOL! ... Yeah, that's all I can think about, for this. As big of a Megaman fan as I am, I strangely am not too pumped about it . Good thing, too, since it's only coming out in South Korea. And yeah, the Shadow Devil is hard as piss, if you play as Zero.
  19. No tracks with lyrics (sorry!) but there IS some breakbeat stuff, metulz, electronic, ethnic, lyric and orchestral stuff in the album, which is still neat. Now that you've posted in here you must listen to the album when it's released (which will be quite soon). I mean the whole thing - no skimping out on any tracks, ya hear?
  20. Oh, you never know... Happy birthday, man - here's hopin' real life doesn't bog you down too much to throw us a mix, later in life We love you, as always.
  21. 'Tis cool, bro. You attempted it and came up with something finished... That alone makes me happy.

Of course, getting the thing closer to the source would help, eh? Look at post #44 on this thread (Oh yeah, that's taking me back, now, lol). That gives you not only the chord structure of the song (if you can read Roman Numerals), but also some insight on the piece, as well (from yours, truly ).

    Good luck with the edit

By the way, I had this message on my VM board for about a week. Posted it in the wrong place, like a moron, lol.

  22. I couldn't help but think of this thread when watching this, lol. Also, Mr. Popo? Wasn't for much of the video, but that... was so random it was brilliant.
  23. Train one's ears to hear the scale. FYI, though, the intervals between the scale (starting + ending on the first note of the key) are 1 -Wholestep- 2 -Wholestep- 3 -Halfstep- 4 -Wholestep- 5 -Wholestep- 6 -Wholestep- 7 -Halfstep- 8 (1). If you want any other scale, just start on another scale degree (this one began on '1', for example) and follow the steps from that point in the pattern, instead. As for 'moods', work with them and see what works for you. Best of luck.
  24. Don't worry about the arrangement portion too much, yet (unless you really want to, of course). This is a first track, so you can use it to learn about your program and mixing/mastering. It's not too bad, really. There's a lot of fuzz coming from the lower middle range. You can fix this by either attaching am EQ to the offending instruments (the bass sounds like the culprit in this case) or over the master track (not recommended, in this case) and turn down the range between 200-800hz until the fuzz is gone. There's just too much sound going through that area, so the arrangement creates 'fuzz' (or clipping), because of it. The track's volume seems to be maxed out. I would recommend giving yourself some headroom by turning down the volume a bit and working with it from there. That gives you more room to play with the sound without the fuzzy clipping. You can turn it all up as high as you need to after you're comfortable with the mix later to get the volume up without the clipping. The instruments tend to get drown in there. Use the mixer & volume adjusters to bring out the lead instrument and tone down the textures (I like the bass where it is, though). That'll clean up the mix further. The drums are boring. Yeah, I said don't worry about the arrangement yet, but they really need to do more than hit the bass ad nausum. I hope that helps a bit.
  25. Hmm... It's alright, so far. It doesn't seem nearly as adventurous as your usual fair, though. The triplet section is neat, and the SFX are cool, but I'm waiting for something SWEET and AWESOME to come from you. It's not finished, so you can still get some awesome stuff out of this. It's alright, but bland. You have the power to make it tasty. Tasty, tasty musics.
