  1. I'm coming. I've got the time off approved, I've pre-registered, and I've paid for my flight out there. Can't stop me now!
  2. All entries are in and have been posted! Time to vote! Seriously, though, the quality of the pieces this time around is phenomenal! Good job you guys!
  3. I have some. I'll send them to you. Maybe you could send them back if you beat the sections I'm in while making the video.
  4. No worries. They need to be originals. The entry rules are at the bottom of the first post in the thread, for reference.

  5. This is really catchy. Great work! I like how DA's vocals make me think of Imogen Heap. Might just be the effects, but, whatever, it's cool. I also find it great that DA's getting to show just how versatile her voice is with all the mixes she's been ending up in. Oh, and AnSo's good too. If you're not paying attention around 1:43, it starts to sound like "I thank God. I thank God. I thank God." #cantunhearit
  6. Wow. That's one way of getting a request fulfilled. Thanks!
  7. There's probably quite a few of them. You can search for them based on whether they play the flute and if they're interested in collabing... http://ocremix.org/forums/memberlist.php?do=search
  8. I find with mine, I have to make sure to mention the correct pronounciation of it. Once they realize that it's not a poorly spelled "A Bad Ass", it's okay. The only place it shows up in my work resume is my e-mail address. Granted, it would probably end up a little more prominant in a music resume, but I've not had to use one in a while. Speaking of which, I should probably update that... hmm... I suppose it comes down to the balance between what you want people you want to impress to know you as and what you want your peers to know you as. I suppose other than that, it's what you're willing to live with (or are forced to live with, after a certain point). I suppose you could always do what McVaffe did and have a bazillion different psuedonyms for various different things...
  9. CMC: Conceptual Music Competition This competition is based on the rules of the classic TOMC (Thematic Original Music Competition). The CMC (Conceptual Music Competition) is designed so that each participant enters a piece of music based on a set theme. The participants take the theme and interpret it as they will to come up with something that fits. Any style can work, as long as it portrays a sense of what the theme is. Feel free to be imaginative! Each successive theme will be chosen by the winner of the previous competition. For example, say the theme of the last competition, CMC 38, was "Blackout" and the winner, Kelly, submitted a piece that knocked the socks off of everyone, so she won. Kelly then gets to decide the theme for CMC 39. This competition is open to registered members of the forums of OverClocked ReMix, VGMusic, Gaming World, Young Composers, and GameDev. CMC 36: Another Place, Another Time "If there was an answer, he'd find it there." -Rich Douglas The picture that goes along with this CMC can be viewed here: http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/davidc/6c_files/documents/mysteries/Harris%20Burdick/placetime.htm (mirror) Source: "The Mysteries of Harris Burdick" by Chris Van Allsburg Results!: Text results and critiques There are 7 entries for this round... snake5 - "Another Place, No More Time" "A man goes on a journey, he finds the forces of nature too powerful and he almost dies but he sees that there's the house he was looking for so he gathers all the strength he still has and goes towards the house..." Rich Douglas - "First Voyage" "This piece follows the children as they assemble, and take their first voyage, on the craft which will transport them to the mystical city in order to (hopefully) find the answers they seek. This piece was mainly done with a slew of custom samples... I did however utilize Omnisphere for the synth, and Battery for the drums. Enjoy!" Lars Dobbertin-King - "Into the Fog" "Sailing on life's misty railroad, where just one wrong turn sends us to a watery grave, people tend to dream of other places and times without such bounds - a mighty glorious kingdom. We will do almost anything to get there, if it is there. Yet life must go on. This piece is about the contrast between our lofty ideal of the unexpected and the harsh reality of existence in this age of the mundane." SkyLynx - "Beyond" "This piece is about getting beyond, beyond horizon, beyond reality, beyond the unreachable distant plans, where the ultimate answer awaits. Or ultimate dream, or whatever is important. It's an epic quest, personal quest to find strength inside yourself to make the first step... and continue your way, the way that is not clear at all." Joshua Taylor - "Sorry to See You Go" No description given. Chris Spencer and Tom Prather - "Travel is a Breeze" No description given. The J - "The Boy and the Amulet" "The boy sat out with his friends, with a heavy heart he knew he was the only chance for his mother to live. he held the amulet in one hand and tried not to look scared. his party was now entering the parallel world. as they were passing in they couldn't miss the beautiful landscapes and different skies, everything about that place said there was magic involved. they traveled some more, a distant cry was heard and an ominous feeling enveloped the young group, it was time to deal with reality." Voting Rules!: Voters will be allowed to pick one first place (3 points) and any number of honorary mentions (1 point). Only one set of votes from any one voter will be accepted and a person cannot vote for any one piece more than once. Corrections to votes, from the original voter only, will be accepted, but corrections will void the previous votes. Basically, a voter can vote and correct the vote, but only the final form of that vote will be counted. Send all votes to Abadoss by PM. Please include any and all constructive critiques (not to be confused with bashing) about them with your votes as well, so that there's always a sense of growth in the artform. If you wish to remain anonymous, just state so in your PM. To be eligible to vote, you must be a registered member of at least one of the participating forums, prior to the beginning of the voting period. In your PM or e-mail, please indicate which forum you are a member of and your username. The voting period will last from the moment the entries are posted in the thread to the Saturday of that week. The voting period for this round ends October 9, so be sure to spend some time really listening to the pieces. Any participant in the competition can vote, but not for their own pieces. However, in an effort to encourage voting among participants, any participant who votes will have 2 points added to his/her voting score (unless the participant chooses to be anonymous). Official Rules!: Each piece must be originally composed for this competition. Arrangements and remixes will not be accepted. (Pieces composed by the participant prior to the competition will not be accepted.) Each piece must be 2:00 or longer and match the competition theme. Only one entry per person. Collaborations will be allowed, but each collaborator may not submit any other pieces. (This also means that a person cannot collaborate on two or more different pieces at the same time.) A link to the entry piece must be e-mailed or PMed to Abadoss prior to the deadline set for each competition. DO NOT POST THE LINK IN THE THREAD! However, feel free to post in the WIP:Other forum. Important: Each file must be labeled accordingly: Composer_Name_-_Composition_Title_CMC#.mp3 (For example, if Alice Gerber submits a piece called "Just Judging" to CMC 37, then her filename would be: Alice_Gerber_-_Just_Judging_CMC37.mp3) MP3 file format is required. Know that even OGG will need to be converted into MP3. (If someone is unable to do so themselves, Abadoss would be willing and able to do it for them.) Entries should be accompanied by a description and/or story to help listeners understand what the piece is about. (Not required, though.) All entries must be submitted by Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:59 PM - PST, GMT-8. You can find the competition threads for each forum listed below: OverClocked ReMix: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31193 VGMusic: http://www.vgmusic.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=13491 Gaming World: http://gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=81756.0 Young Composers: http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t27359/conceptual-music-competition-36-another-place-another-time/ GameDev: http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=582153 Good luck and have fun! 11. For everyone in Portland, Oregon, I propose a rather hastily thought up meetup around the Portland Retro Gaming Expo next weekend. I was told by the organizers that it's $10 for a day and $15 for the weekend, so it's pretty inexpensive to go to. I never have been able to pin down an exact count of how many people from Portland are on OCR, but I think it would be fun to use this event as an excuse to hang out. Let me know what you think. Here's all the info, as taken from the flier: PORTLAND RETRO GAMING EXPO September 18-19, 2010 Portland, Oregon Portland Crowne Plaza Hotel 1441 NE 2nd Ave, Portland, OR How many more times can I say "Portland"? (Walking distance from MAX Light Rail and Tri-Met Bus lines) Saturday - 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM Sunday - 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Tournaments on both days - registration at show Auction starts at 6:00 PM on Saturday Tickets available online or at the door. Buy tickets online and get in one hour early (9:00 AM) on Saturday. Visit our site for ticket rates and additional Expo details: RetroGamingExpo.com
  12. I think he's protesting the capitalization...
  13. I'm not entirely sure that was his stance on it. I personally lean more to the side of limiting more mature content from kids (I still can't believe there are seven-year-old kids playing TF2). However, I think he's saying that the limitations placed on games shouldn't be based on the presupposition that video games are toys and therefore for children only and therefore must not contain any mature content. Any limitations on mature content in video games should be treated the same way as it is in any other ART mediums, like film. Maybe I've got it wrong and that's not what he said. I suppose I'll let him answer for himself, but that's what I understood his position to be.
  14. Well, I made two of the threads. I didn't look at any of the others. I'd just never paid attention to the GameBoy versions, but I was watching part of a game playthrough of Mega Man IV and I loved the music. I grew up on Mega Man, yet I'd never heard this music before.
  15. I really like this guy. He's got a good presentation style and is pretty intelligent. My favorite, so far, has to be this one: http://screwattack.com/videos/TGO-Episode-33-Building-A-Better-Gamer
  16. The moment you leave a city or any sort of population center, you will instantly transform into a towering monstrosity a good hundred to thousand feet tall. (Anything with a overworld map) If you can jump (I stress "if"), you can jump nearly twenty to thirty feet in the air. Forty to fifty if you're Luigi. (Platformers) COLLECT EVERYTHING! It might be a piece of gum under the bus seat or a dried dog turd in the park. If it's not nailed down (or even if it is), you better pick that thing up and shove it down your pants. (Adventure / Puzzle games)
  17. Still can. It just won't be official at this point.
  18. That would be because it's a bot. A one-post wonder. A seized advertising machine. Etc.
