  1. A blast to listen to. Can't wait to hear a "finished" version, this already feels so cohesive and I think it's fantastico.
  2. There's things about this that are really cool. Like, really awesome. Sort of thing that makes you think "This is the TRUE version of this track." Other things though, like the opening, are just a little confusing to my ear. Can't really tell what's going on, and it doesn't really flow in with the rest of the mix. I would love to hear it go on a little longer with a little more embellishment of the main theme. Thought it would be cool to hear a more peaceful interlude based on the theme, and then have the war-like brass come in again and blow it away; you know, that kind of thing. Regardless, I really enjoyed this and good luck with the sub.
  3. Pretty cool mix, it couldn't be anything but Scribblenauts.
  4. I think you'd have to do something pretty incredible for VO to not ruin this mix. I love its energy right now. "Your favorite game quotes set to techno," has never been my cup of tea, and I feel like a lot of tracks turn out that way. Maybe you could string together some meaningful VO and use auto-tuning to make interesting, and not that you care about my opinion in particular. You know: Of course, I've been wrong before, I just have a hard time seeing how "Someone's sappin' my sentry" is going to make any sense outside its own context. Then again, I'm a terrible nitpick for bad lyrics in any music.
  5. When I heard the first version(s?) of this mix a while ago, I wasn't really into it. I don't think I "got" how the two tracks were working together, but now I listen to it and it's super moody and chill. I love it and would play it as driving / working music as-is. Cool mix. If I had one critique, it's that the whole thing almost feels like an intro and is going to go DnB and blow your mind, but I think the fact that it doesn't do that is what makes it great ambiance music. Just wanted to chime in and say that I think it's great.
  6. I really love the new version. I don't have the old version saved, but the fakiness I mentioned about the strings feels all gone. The bass isn't exactly what I imagined when I suggested the change, but it does feel a lot beefier now and a lot more complete as a track. I really love what you've done with it. I think I can agree with most of what Arcana said. Still really cool, but could benefit from a little more time and love.
  7. I really love this theme, and I love some of the things you did with it. It's not quite in my personal collection as it stands. The strings felt fakey to me at times and I really think some strong bass could really give this peace a life of its own. All of the interesting stuff seems pretty high in the treble zone. I'd love to hear some cheesy synth bass, like from an 80s cop movie, I feel like it would be perfect. Just something like that to accompany the awesome melody of this tune. I think it would give it a ton more atmosphere. Keep up the good work though, thanks for mixing this track, I love it. There's a lot of great PW music and IMO it's severely undermixed.
  8. You know, after the first 5 seconds, I was expecting a lot worse. Not anything against your work at all, but I'm terribly biased against vocals in mixes. In the end though, you used the vocals as an instrument, and your composition and harmonies are fairly solid. I can't say this is something I'd keep in my personal collection, but I will solute you to a job well done. I love this source and I'm happy to see it mixed.
  9. I really, really enjoyed this. I, too, am very familiar with the source. You've taken a very cool spin on this memorable, intense tune. I feel like it went from "scary futuristic lab" to "scary fantasy steam dungeon". It's really cool. Regardless of whether it gets accepted, I'm gonna keep this one around for my pen-n-paper roleplaying nights. Thanks! Sorry I can't critique much, I'm too nostalgic to be objective on this one.
  10. Not that I would want to stifle any artists aspirations, but I might suggest that it is possible to be original and accessible simultaneously. I only respond because your last response suggests that there is an inverse relationship between enjoyability and originality. I don't think I agree with that. Yes, I acknowledge that people will usually flock toward the familiar. Hell, we're on OCRemix, a site dedicated to making new versions of things you're already familiar with. But there's also been many wonderful original human inventions that also draw the crowds simultaneously. Certainly you don't -need- to sacrifice accessibility for originality. I guess my point is this: It would be pretty easy for me to smear paint on a canvas, resulting in what is widely regarded as a meaningless image, and then tell people "That's how it's supposed to be." Unfortunately, when you create something that is essentially un-judgable due to its very nature, you lock out any notion of outsider critique, and then, self-improvement. Rosovian was clearly attempting to point out why your track was cacophonous to his ear, to which you basiclaly responded, 'I know isn't it great? If only more people were deep enough to understand it.' I don't intend to sound hostile. As I said in my first post in this topic, I appreciate what you're going for.
  11. Very interesting. The ways in which it's lacking melody certainly give tribute to the original. The original made excellent background music that didn't get repetitive, even after listening to it on a slow Gnomeregan run for a few hours. I can't say that this is what I'd call "listenin' music". It's so all over the place, there's no humming or whistling along. I salute the non-traditional effort though. I suppose if you were to invent a melody that could play over what you already have, it could have potential in my personal playlist, but you'd basically have to do it all from scratch as there's not much to work with in the source.
  12. Wow, it's so bizarre. It's like if a TV show couldn't get the license to the original, and so they had somebody compose something that sounds similar enough to get by. I like it. Obviously not OCR material, but still great fun to listen to. The ending is hilarious.
  13. This is fantastic, I forgot just how mellow Godot's theme was. Not to be a stick in the mud, but I'm generally not a fan of vocals in mixes, and this isn't really an exception for me. Regardless, it's a good tune. I suppose it'd be too much to ask for an instrumental version once it's all pretty and polished? Love the piano and the brass. Keep it up.
  14. I see your file has been removed. I would love to hear this mix; I was always a fan of the jolly Lemmings soundtrack.
  15. I'm quite enjoying this. I'm eager to hear it all polished up, it's got a great feel to it. If I had a gripe, it'd be that most of the transitions feel very sudden. I think with some lead-ins / lead-outs alone, this mix would feel a lot more polished.
  16. Gosh, you'd think I'd be sick of Dire Dire Docks mixes by now, but this is honestly the first one I've heard that felt really, really fresh. My playlist currently holds a guitar+drums MIDI mix from VGMusic. I might finally replace that bad boy with this wonderful version. Fantastic. It's super inspiring and delightful to hear. Thank you for a truly brilliant mix.
  17. Just took the time to finally listen to this WIP. It's a fantastic reimagining of the source, totally altering the structure yet somehow maintaining the awesome ambiance of the original. I, too, would LOVE to hear you continue with it. If it was a little longer I'd take it as-is. Fantastic work.
  18. I like it a lot. Unfortunately I'm much more familiar with the Gauntlet II theme, and not so much this one. However, I like your composition and it's got a fun, quirky style. I just wish I was more emotionally attached to it.
  19. I like the bell at the beginning. Digging the piano tidbits at around 1:45. The references to tLoZ overworld theme are a nice touch.
  20. Up until 1:30, it feels almost like a modern, cool recreation of the source. I like it a lot. I can't say I like it as much after that as we get some of the crazy techno sounds going that aren't always ... euphonic? Is that word too stupid to use? Maybe it's just a coincidence in using 8 bit sounds with intense themes, but 2:10 feels like a sweet throwback to the last stage of Astyanax. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYCafSNTxyQ&feature=related If I had my way, I'd say keep going with the ground work you set in the beginning, but that's just based on preference. You've given this thing a life of its own after that point and I understand that's part of remixing. Also, I don't think the "Danger" boss battle theme is mixed enough. It's an awesome track and OCRs only posted rendition of it is "Duel of the Consoles" which has a lot of other things going on that aren't necessarily... important to the source. I would like to hear another mix of that track, but I'm not sure I like it mixed with Ceremony. That's just me. <3
  21. I really like this sort of stuff, it reminds me of the Mario 64 mix "Spinlock". It's unexpected and a little dark, which I think is quite cool. If I had any critique, it's that the bell lead is a little stale for my tastes. The "one-at-a-time" note structure seems too simplistic compared to the other cool things you're doing with the track. Perhaps you could try a more dynamic instrument that could work in some chords and/or harmonize with itself. I should also mention, the several seconds of synth droning and the end of the track don't really do anything for me. Other than that, the track remained interesting throughout, making subtle shifts; I never got bored. I'd love to hear you do more with it.
  22. I really enjoy where this is going. This was one of my favorite tunes from the game for the same reason why it's been so hard for you to work with: It's mellow and groovy. I'll encourage the same thought that some others have said, try to find another CT track that would be complimented by the bassline. I wouldn't look to any of the main themes for that, probably, they're too strong on their own. Sorry I can't be more helpful; I'd hate it if you dropped this project.
  23. I always loved these themes and I don't think they're mixed enough, honestly. I think the whole things a little bubblier than I would normally prefer. It lends itself to feeling very artificial. I still did enjoy listening to it. If I had one request, it would be that you increase the importance of the main Dark World theme. Right before the end it gets a little quiet solo time, but before that it seems dominated by the mountain tune. I'd love to hear you roll with this. I've always enjoyed it when tracks match up in fun ways.
  24. While I would certainly look forward to any paring down of the medleys you've posted, I'm downloading and enjoying them as-is. I love some cool, mellow piano and the themes you've chosen to represent are excellent. You've represented the spirit of each tune so well with your calm piano renditions and it's a pleasure to listen to.
  25. Good pick for a mix, this is cool tune. I guess this is what I'd say about MIDI robbing: If you're going to just take a MIDI and add new instruments, they have to be more compelling and more interesting than the originals'. Your mix gives a much softer and less driving interest than the original, not to be harsh on you, but as a listener, I have no reason to prefer yours above the source. I guess what I'm saying is, listen closely to the track and try to out-do what it already does well. Either that, or try to accomplish something new that the original doesn't. Otherwise, it's just an exercise. With that said, I'm sure you got some great practice out of doing this and I look forward to hearing what else you come up with.
