  1. Like. Like like like! This makes it very mixable! I'm going to see if I can push one of my DJ's into mixing this in today
  2. I agree with Will: I'm surprised that this works so well! In the first listen I had my doubts about the low-on-hearts indicator but it works like a charm and complements the track well! The kick-back at 2:55 is awesome. I was expecting it earlier, but doing it this way got me off-guard. It is awesome... The ending is a bit of a let down, though, you really should look into expanding it and give it a proper finish [EDIT] This sounds good over the speakersystem iof a club
  3. Dude! Where did your website go :o

  4. Hmm... I'm having troubles finding the sources you say, but one that really jumps out is the SMW castle theme. Fits it quite nicely
  5. The song is VERY catchy, and while it's obvious that they had to work around a tune that's not made for vocals they did a very good job on it. Plus, that clip so f*cking rocks B-)
  6. Oooeeeehhhh, Secret Metroid Prime project!!! I'd like that a lot, but there's a lot of other games that need to be remixed badly too...
  7. Major necropost dude! You really should PM the OP instead of bringing this back from the grave...
  8. VERY slick cover guys! You even got my girlfriend humming along (whom I had to read the text of the original to even understand it), so I'd say a job well done! It's fun to sung this along at the top of your longs when you're with someone else in the room
  9. Wow, you've been busy! Lost track of you a few years ago but it's good to see you're still around! Your Sonic 2 & 3 boss remixes still adorn my playlists I think I asked this before, but did you have any plans on releasing Sonic 1's bossfight and Sonic 3's miniboss? That'd be awesome... I'll have a listen to the album now
  10. For some reason or another, I'm reminded of Deadmau5 when I hear this. This is a VERY early WIP, though, and I can't comment on the track itself just yet; you still need to put in the ice cap tune itself to give us atleast a notion of where you're going with this. Keep working, I'm keeping an eye on this
  11. OK, this got pushed off WAY too fast! Other people need to hear this too!
  12. THe "whiiiiiiiuuuuuuuu" thingys in the beginning are a bit much, but I'm actually digging this! Not a lot of deviation until halfway though. If I were you, I'd work on making it a bit fuller because right now it seems it's a bit on repeat after the first half. Try to stick to begin - middle - plot - end, of which you're missing the plot right now. You're "missing" something overall anyway, I just can't put my finger on it what that is... Has great potential, though a judge might be better to tell you what goes wrong where
  13. I want to hear it finished yeah... I do hope that you'll give it more of an opera / orchestra feeling to it, IMHO that would suit the style you've nailed here perfectly
  14. If you can't handle the critics, then don't make music. But just because it's free doesn't mean I don't have to say something about it. Free =/= good! If everybody just screams HALLELUJA because it's free, nobody would ever try to be better than the other and that would make for a lousy remix community... Thanx for your explenation Rexy! And José, it's not exactly as you are saying. I experience Subsonic Sparkle as being "slow". And I'm saying that while listening to it isolated without listening to the other tracks. Jumping to Spring Junkie, I can adress that matter more clearly: this is music you'd hear in the background of a lounge bar. That's the reason why I'm addressing it as slow, not because I don't like the style of music. I'm a great jazz fan! My main gripe with a lot of the tracks is that they feel out of place with the "Sound of Speed" title, which created an expectation which isn't being fullfiled. I can't stress enough, though, that I find it an enjoyable album and that I am very happy that all these people came together to make something cool. I am just saying this kinds of things so that people can learn from it and make an even better album in the future; making music is one thing, marketing it is another and is, as you've all probably noticed by now, a pretty big integral part of how people react to something. For example, calling it "Sonic Live: a musical journey through Möbius" brings up different feelings compared to "The Sound of Speed". A complete Green Mile filled with animals playing various instruments and as DJ's (with Sonic the Director, ofcourse ) brings up a different idea as opposed to a fast-moving Sonic; that cover would make for an awesome wallpaper, by the way! It's just my two cents, though
  15. Oh my, that sneaky Hetcenus! I know that the pacing of the originals is a bit slow, but I would still have liked the album to pick up speed the further we got in the album. And I have to agree that using the Special Stage tune so much is kind of a let down, easily "corrupting" the rest of the album by returning so many times
  16. Pfew guys, it took you long enough! It's a good album, though I must admit that the whole it feels... slow. This is not the speed of sound that I was hoping for, as it lacks a certain dynamic. The Sound of Speed starts it out well enough, but come Shifting Islands it goes in a lower gear that lasts until Hogtied. IMHO, there's only a few tracks that really manage to stand out from the rest, and overall the end result feels... I dunno, bland? It's pretty obvious, judging from the quality of the tracks, that a lot of thought has been put into this album and it most certainly is a great birthday present for our favorite hedgehog, but I'm not sure if this album is up there with masterpieces like Relics of the Chozo and The Dark Side of Phobos. If I had to put it in somewhere, it would be around Delta-Q-Delta and Sonata of the Damned. Funny, it took us so much years to finally get a Master System Scrap Brain remix on this site, while it is hands down one of the coolest tracks on the original Sonic's OST. I agree with halc that the Genesis version, on the other hand, is really the worst song in Sonic 1, but WillRock has made a great remix out of it. I have never heard a track being remixed in such a way that it actually made me enjoy it while I hated the source. For that I applaud you
  17. You enter the track without any kind of buildup; you're just thrown into it. That makes it hard to get used to it. That piece at 0:26 is... ugly. Overall you've thrown in a LOT of different instruments, making the whole track feel chaotic and incohesive. This sounds more like a Casino Night-like rendition than the nice serenity of Starlight Zone. IMHO, not such a good thing...
  18. I agree, this track has some serious potential. That switching of the bass line is funky! And I must say that it has a very swinging hear to it, going so far as to even be able to deliver me chiptunes that I like. Good times! The start has a nice build-up, though I swear the "Get Ready!" is more pronounced as "Get Ready?", which is a bit of a let down if you ask me. Needs to be more "tough", in line with the rest of the track. Near the end you put in small pockets of silence of the background instruments; I'm digging that hardcore! So all in all, yeah, it's a bit hollow, but this can be a good addition to OCR if you manage to create more depth. I'd say go for it
  19. Almost a month now dude... Get back to this pretty please? Hope the moving went smooth and that you had a good new year's eve, but I really hope that your vow forthe new year is to finish this one within a reasonable timespan
  20. Bumping thread, for great justice! Dude, how's it going? Made any progress?
  21. Watch Lord of the Rings, all the scenes with the Uruk Hai have a very rough orchestra in the background. Beyond Good and Evil has some very catching themes as well, such as the battle theme. BGaE has a pretty neat soundtrack overall as well so it wouldn't be such a bad thing to listen to it carefully
  22. Hmm... It's all a bit bland, if you ask me. Too little variation in the song itself, with another problem being that the song doesn't feel like it's going somewhere. Also, hold into consideration that you're remixing a theme that is about the savage part of creatures. An orchestra can very effectively portray that (lots of instrument choices that give a darker, rougher edge) but I don't hear it here. It's almost as if you're telling your orchestra "hey, guys, don't give it all you got, I'm afraid the audience can't handle it", which, IMHO, is a bad thing. Spice it up, a lot, because right now I don't see this being accepted.
  23. Some very funky ideas here. Problem is, I'm not finding a download button so I can't go into the details of it. Get me a download button and we'll talk further Thing to keep in: the drop in theme with the following synth solo. THAT, my friend, was pure trance and a very nice way of differentiating your remix from others. As said, get me that download link, but I'm digging this remix big time. I hope you can expand upon what you have, because if you can this can easily become the best Sonic remix of the year. Now what are you waiting for? Get back to work [EDIT] At three-quarters of the track (with the slider approx. above the i), you fade to silence a bit and after that go back to the "standard" chord progression. I would recomend a "blast" to suck the listener back into the track instead of making that last part the finishing move, with everything going back to relaxed; there's room for build-down later on, for example by lengthening the track to 3:15 or 3:30. If you need pure musical advice on that, check out Luke Terry's Chemical Plant remix. That should give you an idea of what I mean [EDIT2] OK... I've just caught myself replaying your remix for the third or fourth time or so in between other tracks. I'm hooked
  24. Well this was about time, I have followed this remix for quite some time now and only now is it added to OCR? Ohwell, guess you can't have it all, can't you? Back on topic, I have to say that this is a solid remix, with that middle eastern theme fitting the track very well
  25. Well one positive point: it doesn't convey an Efteling feeling, which, IMHO, would have been a pretty bad thing for this source material. And calling Efteling a rollercoaster park doesn't feel quite good, wouldn't you agree? As a side note... I just noticed that there isn't a real defined middle piece. You know, where the main instruments silence and where you start building up for a grand finale. Are you still going to return to this piece or not? It would be a shame not to, if you'd ask me...
