OCR01526 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Knuckleduster"

Darn you, Mr. Baranowsky. Whenever I hear any variation of the Mable Garden Zone theme, I always hear your voice in the background, which ultimately is a sign of a great mix. You did an awesome job, and keep up the good work. -
I ~could~ nitpick over the piano and sax, but those have already been addressed and more accurately than I could have pinpointed. And they don't really detract from the mix anyway, so... I like the truth in advertising here; Smooth, just as prescribed. I really need to get around to doing that.

I already like this mix because it's source is just an oddity in the universe; a fragment of a world of possibilities. Its got that nice, galactic, shoot em'up feel to it. All in all, great mix.

OCR00989 - Legend of Zelda "Link Goes to New Orleans"

Neskvartetten does Dungeon right. I can almost envision someone wandering around in some forgotten cave/dungeon and turning a corner to randomly find a stage with Neskvartetten performing this tune on it. Great job and a must download. -

Vince Guaraldi would be proud. This and Neskvartetten are freaking awesome. An absolute must download for any jazz and/or Zelda fanatic. -
OCR00098 - Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past "AmIEviL Dark World"

This mix is slow to start, but it is sooooo worth it. My biggest complaint is that it's too short. It seems too me like most of the song is intro before it gets to the meat and potatoes of the mix. This is a great mix that leaves me wanting more. -
OCR00156 - Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past "Dark World Jazz"

Very Nice. Smooth mellow coffee-house style jazz, just the way I like it. The source really works well as jazz. Great stuff. -
OCR00808 - Adventures of Bayou Billy "Trippin' on Alligators"

Experimental is probably the best way to put it. At 1:23, it becomes a little more in sync with convention. Definitely not my cup of tea, but still worth listening to for the experience of listening to such a piece. -

Heck yeah! This is awesome. This pulls everything off everything off superbly. Very nice -
OCR00685 - Mario Paint "bLiNd Is Dah BomB!"
42 replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
It's bizarre (in a good way), but it tries to be too much. While trying to do too much would be a mix's downfall, this one pull's it off fairly o.k. Ultimately, it winds up being an average run-of-the-mill mix though. -
This is the closest thing to synesthesia I've encountered here. I just don't know if I'm supposed to be seeing sounds or hearing colors. Either way, this is awesome track. I love how it jumps from Mario Paint to dark-techno-orchestral. I heavily endorse this product and/or service.

OCR01762 - Final Fantasy VI "Terra Haute"

There's just something about live arrangements that give the mix that personal touch. The sax and violin here are indeed spectacular. Not quite coffee house jazz but still great, mellow, and fun to listen to. All in all, awesome mix. -
<.< ok, so the intro is slightly questionable, going for a funky vibe I guess, but then the mix rounds out. Kinda groovy, kinda orchestral, kinda adventure movie soundtrack. Like Bach meets disco meets Indiana Jones soundtrack, except it totally isn't like that. wow, it's kinda hard trying to label this mix. imho, it's too liberal. I checked this against the source and don't really think there's enough source tune in there.

OCR00826 - Tetris (GB) "Gift from Moscow"
42 replied to Disco Dan's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I really love how this is broken into about three/four sections and how it progresses through each. It's as if someone's starting a game of Tetris and listens to the title theme. Then at 0:55 they actually begin a round. At 1:52 (where the mix really begins), reality fractures and the player is at some obscure, romantisiced Eastern European village at festival time. Then at 3:54, its time to go home. Great mix and worth listening to. -
OCR01436 - Guardian Legend "Starflake Jazz"

It's not really traditional jazz or really even jazz in the traditional sense; its more techno-electric-jazz-fusion. To me, it sounds like the predominant instrument here is one of those plastic tubes that has one of those noise makers in it, and one has to keep flipping it end over end to make that throaty "eeEAAAUuuu" sound. It gets an A for originality not much else. -
Quoted for truth. I like how this comes out fast and furious. I especially like the motif at 0:13. I generally like mixes that are a melody, but this does an exceptionally well job of coherently stringing together and transferring from each theme. Also the electric guitar solo of the fanfare theme at the end is made of pure awesome. In short, Final Fantasy as power metal makes me go

This is one of those few mixes that, imho, transcends the boundaries and expectations of the source. This isn't just a simple 'improvement', but an entire reimagining of a theme, i.e. a mix so well done that that's what the original theme should have been. If that makes sense. Specifically, this takes 8-bit sounds into the modern era. A deliciously swift, precise, and ... stainless mix.

OCR00391 - Secret of Mana "Ice Crystal Fields Forever"
42 replied to Saunders's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is creepy o.O; The sound effects of someone out of breath walking through the snow like it was being recorded through a camcorder and the howl at 0:11 really set a tone of paranoia, bleak loneliness, and soul-freezing emptiness. When I listen to this, I actually feel physically cold. This is a very well-done mix, but it just isn't my cup of tea. -
OCR00742 - Sonic CD (JP) "ColKaos Stoned Future"
42 replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The mix is far off/dreamy/hazy and, daresay, trippy, but it isn't as interesting to listen to as the first impressions the first 15 or 20 seconds give. It starts off interesting and original, but it doesn't really go anywere with it. It's like the melody is chasing itself around in circles inside a fog bank. As it stands, this mix is a good start, but it doesn't do enough to be worthwile. -
OCR00444 - Secret of Mana "Cry from the Forest"

well said. I really like how there's almost distinct segments and how the way the mix travels and weaves them together in such a way that it reminds the listener that there are no segments, only a contiguous melody. This mix is the musical embodiment of simultaneous awareness of the parts and the whole. I also love the casual, not-forced-but-relaxed, almost classical presentation of this mix. -
While I don't know if Daniel was stating if his mix is cheesy or if lounge music as a whole is cheesy, this mix is not. It's not really jazz, but it's close enough. Its still smooth, mellow, and good. Even still, I can't really find myself liking this one. I want to, but I can't really put my finger on why though.
