Letting everyone know that I've been away/out of commission for most of September. Please bear with me as I attempt to catch up and get back into the saddle. Thanks.

Yo Jesse, sounds like you need to set up some mirror/raid drives asap. You should hit up Prophetik, as he knows a ton about fixing comp hardware. It's always good to check the integrity of your hard-drive frequently with tools such as Crystal Disk Info. Don't wait till it's too late to salvage your files. Oh, and a no-brainer: never clone your system partition if the reason for its failure isn't mechanical. Best of luck with this one man. Cowboy Bebop is my fav anime, yet it's hard to argue with someone who can let you know he's Batman ...with music. Srsly though, try to keep it focused on the music guys. Until a project becomes official, it's not immune to being locked.

Ahem, well if I may be so bold to ask, whatever happened to: Unless of course some WAVs matter more than others. sure, leave it to me... Assuming direct control of your thread to make big, bold announcements like real, manly directors with beards do.

The Official SNESology Thread - Sample Libraries Available!
Dj Mokram replied to Monobrow's topic in General Discussion
Ahah, nice one. That title alone had me sold. Turns out the song was pretty legit too. Is SNESology a private endeavor, or are submissions open to public? -
Oh, what have we done? It's our fault if The Coop ran away. We're terrible parents. All we want now is for our little TC to come back. We just want him to come home. <3 <3 <3 Also, there are 5 tracks open. We are still recruiting.
-
Do you know something I don't, bro. I concur with that last statement. Sent you some feedback and yep you're still on. By the way, two words for everyone: TRACK TITLE. Had I not be organized with filenames, it'd be swimming in an ocean of 'GunstarHeroes.mp3' and 'GunstarRemix.mp3' by now. So, please guys, try to come up with proper titles for your remixes, or hit us if you want some suggestions. Thanks in advance. Please note: the next deadline is set for November 11th 2012. See y'all there.

A less ambitious project, maybe? In all seriousness MangaMan, if you need 3 separate OP just to lay down your concept, you're doing something wrong. I'd strongly suggest to refocus your effort in order to come up with something a little more manageable in terms of scope. It can be exciting to be part of something as big as what you're envisioning, but it can also be equally discouraging to watch it drag for months on end because of over-ambitious goals. You need to be realistic in regards to your ability to direct/manage and also be mindful of how credentials (or lack there of) might affect the chances of garnering sufficient interest and talent to get this (or any) album done. Best of luck.

(LAST DAY!!!) Help WillRock Win Guitar Solo Contest!
Dj Mokram replied to WillRock's topic in General Discussion
Great solo Will. Tell you what: I'll throw in a vote if you resume directing the Bionic Commando project. You know, that thing linked in your sig that's been neglected for almost a year now. -
The first check-in deadline went by, and it was a great turnout. We'd like to thank everyone who made it on time. You should all have received feedback on your tracks by now, but if I somehow missed someone, hit me up. A few people went MIA however, and unless we hear from them very soon, their tracks will be re-opened. Let us know as early as possible when you can't make a deadline. Punctuality is as important as musicianship. Our goal can now be made clear: we aim to celebrate the game's 20th anniversary on September 2013. Judging by the current pace and the amount of progress, it looks like we're on track to accomplish that. The OP will be updated shortly with the next check-in date, so please take good note of that information. Lastly, communication is the lifeline of this kind of community effort. So make sure to stay in touch with us. Have fun with your arrangement and see y'all in a couple of months.

You're really missing out on something, Brandon. It's one of the best games not just published, but actually developed by Squeenix. Plus, I'm sure you, of all people, would really enjoy . Yeah, with more than 3 millions units sold worldwide, this game clearly helped drive PSP sales for a while.
-
Agreed. Would totally fit the summer setting, plus WR64 could always use more coverage. Ahah, glad you liked it. I'd totally be a part of this, if it were to happen. Btw Dyne, will you be going for something different with OCC v6, as you hinted to in last year's OP?

Bionic Commando ReMixed: OK, We'll Groove - History
Dj Mokram replied to Brandon Strader's topic in Projects
Seriously, I've been pushing and bumping and offering to collab for months. Next deadline: October 1st 2011. Orly? I mean, is this still alive Will, John? -
Please try to search before creating a post. There's already a big request thread for FFT here: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=40760 Either way, you'll have better luck with the Doujin scene. There are tons of great arrangements from FFT, FFTA and FFTA2 out there.

By this logic, will all SE avatars be removed as well? (seeing as they're basically sprites/art from the games)

Frustrating News for Final Fantasy Music Fans
Dj Mokram replied to frollo's topic in General Discussion
Well, they just got licensed by Squeenix, which means SE most likely own the rights to any footage from now on. -
Alright folks, today is the first check-in deadline! If you've received a reminder but haven't been in touch yet (or in a while), please contact either me or DusK asap. We're extending the deadline till the end of the week-end to give everyone a little more time in case they need it.

My comment was about Symphobia specifically. Like I said, you can build great orchestral pieces with Symphobia, but its core sound is more geared toward tension and ambiance. It's more about unsettling and atmospheric compositions rather than the usual symphonic/melodic orchestra. It's really a tool for scoring rather than for making music in the strict sense you were implying. The reason I recommended EWQL or VSL, was because they're the most affordable, widely-used, versatile and professional sounding in their price range. But if you've got the bucks to invest into Project Sam's Orchestral Essentials, have at it. While this bundle strips down the Symphobia content to its bare bones (which in this case means keeping the most usable orchestral elements), it also gives you a fantastic percussion tools in True Strike (that Symphobia was sorely missing), and also throws in Orchestral Brass for that extra Hollywood sound. It's also easily tweakable, readily operational with its various 'Multis' that put massive orchestral sound at your fingertips, and lastly the size is slightly more manageable than other similar libraries. Admittedly, you might not get every articulation on every instrument ever like with the advanced versions of VSL, but you'll get a solid sound out-of-the-box and a highly versatile orchestral library. Hope this helps.

Symphobia is definitely more geared toward cinematic, symphonic atmosphere. You can still build great orchestral pieces with it, but it's more useful for when you need to add a layer of uneasiness in your composition, and get that Michael Giacchino sound that gives extra tension to the piece. Lots of risers and trailer ready stuff for movie-oriented and movie-friendly composition. Since I suspect you're aiming for a more Zimmer-esque (or maybe Sakuraba-esque would be more accurate in this case) style, you're indeed better off with EWQL or VSL.

Look at you Pete! Getting all apocalyptic and stuff! Oh yeah, I can hear the Mazedude influences in there. It's funny because I always thought the soundtrack to this game was pretty minimalistic, but this arrangement is the complete opposite, with lots of glitching, jarring (in a good way) sounds and a clever mixture of electronic and orchestral elements. Deft use of sound effects, and excellent drum work for a remix that incidentally reminds me of The Glitch Mob at times. In any case, great job on the arrangement and congrats on the mixpost!

That would either mean paying large sums of royalties to game publishers or closing the shop. Having hundreds, maybe thousands of people using your personal site as their base of operation, and such a huge supply of user-provided content that cannot possibly reach its target destination/audience in a timely fashion, it becomes apparent that:-Mr Lloyd is NOT a Terminator. Yeah, I'm disappointed by the truth as well. -he needs help handling the vast amount of content delivered everyday by a grumpy mailman who broke his back carrying bags of remixes. -he should proly start delegating more responsibilities to his loyal and trusty vassals, as any sane feudal lord would have done in his time. Though this has already been discussed at length in this thread, so I'll close the parenthesis here. As for the paid membership... Last thing this site needs, is a way to further ostracize itself as an elitist club. It's hard enough reaching the gates of the OCR citadel as it is. Amen.
-
Uh? OCC has been happening every year like clockwork for the past 5 years. Though it only comes out on, well ...Christmas.Maybe Dyne should look into making 'an Overclocked Summer' as well, with remixes geared toward a beach/seaside thematic.

wip Dynamite Headdy - Tower of Puppets
Dj Mokram replied to Kumori's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
What's up Kumori? Been a while since those cool Ragnacenty mixes you did. Allright, so far it seems you're going for the same kind of interpretation, that's to say you're sticking close to the source material. It's roughly the same instrument palette too, which fits the happy feel of Tower of Puppet ...which always reminded me of the Rafflesia Training Grounds. So I guess it's a logical follow up to your previous work. ;P The thing that strikes me as problematic right now is the bright stab/hit that enters at 0:13 and continue playing the accents until 0:26. It's overpowering most of the instrumentation and really sticks out like a sore thumb. Aside from that, it's still more of a cover than a proper re-arrangement. I'd say you tend to make updates/upgrades of existing songs rather than ReMixes, because you're not putting enough personalization into the arrangement. Though if you're shooting for a straight cover, by any means, continue doing your thing as it's enjoyable nonetheless. With folks from around the VGM community we've made a tribute album to Dynamite Headdy called Secret Bonus Point. Might interest you. And as my sig shows, there's yet another fan album for a great Treasure game in the works, this time involving mostly OCR folks. Maegawa & co. left Konami cause they were tired of making endless sequels, and wanted to create unique gaming experiences that challenge the norm. It's safe to say by now that they've succeeded in that regard, and I hope you'll succeed in making your remix unique as well. Have fun and good luck.
