Ahah, my thoughts exactly. Though the chara concepts were apparently done by folks at Crystal Dynamics, so that may be one of the reasons. The shocker for me was that Robert Duncan (composer for shows like Castle and The Unit) did the music, instead of usual SE in-house musicians. Lastly, it's interesting to note that they finally brought (what appears to be) Bahamūt back to its middle-eastern roots. Everyone knows that Squeenix can make amazing CG, but now they need to start making amazing games again, as well. As of late, their own productions have been a bunch of clunky, messy, dated games covered with a slick packaging. ...oh, and where the heck is the legendary vaporware Final Fantasy versus XIII?

Pokemon Spin-Off Album: Generating Interest
Dj Mokram replied to PixelPanic's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
Pokemon, under-recognized? Are you serious? That being said, best of luck with this spin-off project Pixel Panic & friendz. -
Sure thing. You're on Pete. The sweeter the dream, the bitter the disillusion. ;P After the initial wave of claims the first wips are beginning to come in. Let's keep the ball rolling, many great tracks are still available.

Seeing as many requests still get posted without so much of a YT link, how about making this a requirement instead of a suggestion?

Street Fighter: The World Warrior Remix Royale
Dj Mokram replied to DarkeSword's topic in Competitions
Wait, isn't your job supposed to be killing fan-favorite game series, re-hashing major beat'em up every six month and hiding DLC on game discs? Oh, and also attempting to make profit off of your own fanbase while masquerading it as part of a celebratory collection. -
PRC219 - ALBUM Special: Black Gun (Gunstar Heroes)
Dj Mokram replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
^This. If Bundeslang is cool with it, we can wait a little longer for latecomers. -
PRC219 - ALBUM Special: Black Gun (Gunstar Heroes)
Dj Mokram replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
^This. It was a super fun take on the source Sir_NutS, and certainly high in energy. Don't undersell it. I encourage you to check the project tracklist and see if another track might tickle your fancy. Looking forward to everyone's entries tomorrow! -
Pokemon Spin-Off Album: Generating Interest
Dj Mokram replied to PixelPanic's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
lol, PixelPanic how many Pokemon albums are you trying to start here? ;P Seriously though, you already have a thread where people have begun showing interest. All you gotta do is rename it, then ask a mod to move posts from here before deleting the duplicate thread. Otherwise it'll look a little bit like poke-spamming. Just saying. -
Hey EC, Your arrangement reminds me a lot of late 80s & early 90s sci-fi movie scores. The plugins aren't necessarily at fault, but the piece does sound extremely soft/harmless. Overall the mix lacks dynamics resulting in a soundscape that stays fairly static throughout. And as Mikeaudio mentioned, the processing may have taken its toll on the piece. But you do have a knack for creating atmosphere, so for a Metroid tribute it's a good thing. The best advice I could give would be to take inspiration from MP2 Echoes soundtrack. Namely this song: MP2 shares a quality with Metroid 2 which is this powerful sense of loneliness and desperation. For ex, pay attention to how some of the background elements/hits deliberately have a lot of impact/echo. When mixing, make sure each instrument takes its own space, to get a fuller sound out of the song. Also, blending synthetic and acoustic elements often leads to unorthodox yet interesting ambiances. Keep tweaking and best of luck with this remix. Metroid II definitely deserves more luv.

PRC219 - ALBUM Special: Black Gun (Gunstar Heroes)
Dj Mokram replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
Was just pointing it out to avoid people thinking this round has to be different than others. So I'm with you 100% here: compos should always be first and foremost about having fun. -
PRC219 - ALBUM Special: Black Gun (Gunstar Heroes)
Dj Mokram replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
Lol, yeah. Sir_NutS are you crazy? You make amazing music and everybody on OCR knows that. Please don't deprecate yourself like this. I agree though that the source isn't 'green hill zone easy' either. Norio Hanzawa is known for intricate/complex melodies and mastery of the FM synthesis. But like I said, give it a go. If you feel it isn't working for you, no biggie. Don't force yourself if you're not having fun with the source in the first place. -
ITT I'm a ghost and nobody ever reads my posts. *jumps off a cliff*

PRC219 - ALBUM Special: Black Gun (Gunstar Heroes)
Dj Mokram replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
Nobody is desperate for anything and Kevin is only doing his job as compo organizer, all while motivating the troops. Insinuating that we are somehow lowering ourselves or would accept midi-rips because we are desperate is just rude. Especially after we've clearly stated in the OP that the album is being made with the intent of submitting to OCR. We just wanted to bring a little spice and try something different for once, to see if people were up for a reasonable challenge. Obviously you're not and I understand that, it's okay. There will be plenty more PRC rounds for everyone to enter in the future. For now, all we want is for people to have fun while rising up to the challenge ...like in any other compo. -
PRC219 - ALBUM Special: Black Gun (Gunstar Heroes)
Dj Mokram replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
And here I was gonna post that this string of desists would make less competition for sggod89. ;P There's still 3 days left before the deadline, so I encourage people to give it a shot nonetheless. A challenging source can sometimes push you in directions you had never considered before. http://compo.thasauce.net/compos/view/DDC Not sure Bundeslang would ever want to drastically alter the PRC in such a way though. But the random pairing thing could indeed be a fun thing ...or a complete mess, depending. -
I think MindWanderer summed this match up neatly in the votes: 1 great mix > 7 mixes stapled together with voice samples. ;P But more surprising than people not voting for you Beth, is the fact my track was played during the latest Saturday Night Sega. Gavvie actually played a few SRZC compo entries in recent SNS episodes. All you lizcakes and panzards should check it out. Thanks Matt, much appreciated. Didn't want to be the bad pancake on this one.

This is weird, cause I voted on all matches the same day. However, I had to relog when placing the vote on my match, which might have caused the system to not register it somehow. Wish someone would have notified me earlier. Here was my vote: Really hope you can count the vote as it wasn't intentional and I did not intend to penalize everyone else. Also, I really wanna thank anyone who was crazy enough to vote for me. <3 <3 <3 I went in this match expecting a 60-0 result in favor of Beth, so the outcome humbled me to say the least. Thanks again to Matt for having me on the compo, and congrats/good luck to wildfire on her next match.

mod-review '!' Metal Gear Medley Orchestration
Dj Mokram replied to Colaresmusic's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hello there fellow real Metal Gear fan (you know, not the usual MGS2-only type). This reminds me I gotta get around to remix some MG2 - Solid Snake someday. This is a very nice and comprehensive piece you've created here. Instruments are convincing and full sounding. Afaict, the orchestration is believable. You've really captured the essence of the original MG, much in the way the songs from the MG 20th anniversary album did. Personally I've enjoyed your take on those classic themes a whole lot, the arrangement side of things at least. While I think it may sound a little conservative/medley-ish for OCR, I'll let the mods/judges decide on what's what. Now, my main gripe is that the production is way too muddy and overpowering a lot of the time. Problem is, I cannot say if it's due entirely to Youtube compression or if it's in the actual mix itself. What would really help would be if you uploaded an mp3 version on like tindeck or soundcloud if you got one. As it stands, the production (or how the mix appears to sound on YT) is gonna be the biggest roadblock on your way to OCR's front page. Btw, make sure you add the links to the sources in your first post, if you ever want workshop mods to review your song. I'll keep an eye on this thread. Good luck with this awesome orchestral piece. -
Looks like Gunstar Blue is getting all the love around here. This ends now! ;P Gunstar Heroes Red Gunstar Heroes Green Gunstar Heroes Yellow ...and Smash Daisku for good measure! LT: Unfortunately not allowing any more images taller or wider than 32px.

What are you listening to?
Dj Mokram replied to PassivePretentiousness's topic in General Discussion
(from Jazzmasters III) -
Yeah, as DusK said someone already put a tentative claim on it. We're sorting this one out right now. But with your style Pete, I think you would do awesome on tracks like Defeat Pinky Roader! or Theme of Golden Silver. Let us know anytime. And good luck with your next mix/match in the lizard bracket.

Marking you down for Legend of the Gunstars. Welcome aboard my friend. Hi there Mike. Could you check in with us (via PM) before you begin working on anything? Cause if you present a wip that does not fit the project direction, we'll be forced to decline. And we really don't want to turn down the very few people who actually know about the game. So please get in touch with us asap. Thanks in advance. CJ, I remember that Seven Force/Stage 1 remix you did last year. Always great to have some enthusiastic GH fans oboard. The exemple track you provided seems to fit our direction, but be warned: this source is one of the most iconic tracks from the game. We'll be expecting nothing short of a mind blowing interpretation. So if you're up for a good challenge, then you're on.

OCR02439 - Kirby's Dream Land "Gliding on a Silver Lining"
Dj Mokram replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ever since discovering it on R:TS a while back, this has become one of my favorite remixes, not just from Stevo, but of all time. "Soothing" and "Refreshing" are the first words that come to my mind when listening to this excellent arrangement. It's an inspiring piece, filled with emotion and reminiscent of the simple joy that games once used to bring. Best of all: it got me playing Kirby's Dream Land. So thanks again for sharing this with the world. -
No prob. If you're up for arranging, we'll hold your claim within the limits of reason. We just want to avoid having people sit on their claims for months on end, that's all. Hit me or DusK via PM to give us a general idea of your availability and we'll mark you down.
