  1. Oh yeah, I've had this on my MP3 ever since it was released in the compo. Cool to see it hit the front page. Still sounds as great today as it did a couple years back. Awesome work by both ReMixers and I'll keep enjoying this track for a long time.
  2. I just can't get enough of Kate's amazing vocals. I mean, there are quite a few female vocalists on OCR and beyond, and I'm not out to take anything away from them at all because they are truly talented, but I'm amazed at how consistantly awesome Kate's voice is, especially matched up with the instrumental music behind it that is just as gorgeous. Seriously, the music alone is well done, but as a combined track, the vocals and music compliment each other. There's something magical about this piece, and I think it's the enchanting pictures and mystically soothing vibes you get from the arrangement. Evktalo is right, I wouldn't have been surprised if someone tried to convince me that this was a LOTR piece or something similar. Going to my playlist right now.
  3. A cinematic sound and an incredible video to go along with it, that's just impressive on many levels. That all being said, it has everything that I would love this kind of piece to have. A slick build sandwiched by tense moments that have even grander bookends. It really does sound like something you'd expect from a score. Nice work.
  4. That opening.........damn, guys! Seems that Napalm Man and Wily just go together well, and let's face it, it's hard to go rock with Willrock and Nutritious working together. An orchestral mix with the energy of a staticly charged electronic mix. Pretty good if I say so myself.
  5. Happy birthday to all the fires and non-fires! Triple the happy! Triple the Birthday!
  6. Gonna have to agree with anyone who said this would be a great fit for some old hip hop, especially for one of those folks who like to freestyle over beats. I've heard it done with much simpler stuff on youtube, so this would work for that. When looked at in that context, the age and length of the mix aren't the most damaging things to it. Think I would prefer this mix that way rather than on it's own. It's all in the perspective, but other than that, not bad.
  7. Man, that drum beat sounds so retro....and I'm not even mad, I don't mind oldschool sounds at all. Granted, this is dated and has conservative elements out the wazoo, but for what it's worth, it's certainly not the worst Chemical Plant mix I've ever heard. Sometimes I'll take a mix that is close to the original and has minor changes to a mix that is too liberal, but that's just me. Jivemaster has done better, but this is a good place to see one of the earlier Jive works to compare and appreciate.
  8. Music box with all the creepiness you could want was the kind of start I love in mixes such as this one. While the metallistic chugs of the guitars rock on, there is still a dark, evil undertone that add character to the mix, and I like that. There really isn't much I can say because a mix like this can make me sum up my feelings pretty quickly, but I can say that I believe this to be my favorite Mak ReMix to date. Keep it up, fella.
  9. Interesting is definitely the choice word here. Even though it seems so short at just over two minutes, there is always something going on in the mix. Not a moment was taken for granted and it somehow tells the story it needed to quickly and concisely. Ace arrangment, with so many little touches (like the yell) that makes me grin. I'm shocked at how neat dubstep sounds with a bit of a low-fi edge, especially with that piano, but it's cool. Makes me want to hear a little more, so I guess the repeat button will be abused on this one.
  10. This game was actually one of my favorites when I was younger and I actually enjoyed soccer (I'm not sorry. It will always be soccer to me.) because it was the one sport I was decent at. Hearing most of the themes in the game, especially Wily get some love and hear MMSoccer represented like this makes me want to bust it out and play it again. I love hearing the energy of this mix change inbetween the various sections and add some life to the mix. Terrific work, I'm definitely a fan of this one.
  11. Gotta say, I like how Hyrule Castle was used in this arrangement. Almost score-like in it's pace and underlying melodies. And the section that connects Ganon to the Deku Tree was pretty good as well. These are the kinds of ReMixes that take mulitiple themes and manage to transistion between theme nicely, and I love to see that. Well done.
  12. I normally hate to let games that I get go without beating them, but sometimes I just don't get around to a couple of theme. There are two that come to mind though: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I've made it all the way up to the last area where I'll be dealing with Ganon, but I always seem to get caught up with something else or distracted and not get a chance to finish the damn thing. One of these days, maybe. Super Mario Bros: Lost Levels. Process seem to go that I'll play it in an attempt to finish it, die on a level for about half an hour, finally pass it and go "okay, I can at least save here and try to get further later" because I'm so burnt out just trying to get past the previous one. Currently at 7-4, so I should finish that up before too long.
  13. Okay, yeah, those mallet hits are genius, man. The whole ReMix doesn't come off as overly frantic, but that tense, dark vibe is there in spades, which is perfect for the original castle theme. The SFX were a nice addition, too. The ending really capitalized on the idea of making a picture of finishing Bowser off by getting that axe and dropping the bridge. Really digging this one.
  14. Happy birthday, Willrock. Hope it's a good one!
  15. Yeah, boy! This ReMix skates close to being cluttered and clunky in the middle because of how much was going on, but JJT managed to swoop out and take the ReMix up for air at the last minute, which was nice to hear. Certainly a nice arrangement. My only complaint is the distortion at the intro and outro seemed a little loud or sharp, but once things got underway, it didn't really bug me because it seemed to even out enough. Minor points aside, awesome work, man.
  16. I can hear what everyone is saying about the bass note, and it does get on my nerves as well. But compared to the rest of the ReMix, this seems to be one of the better older mixes in the earliest 100's, so I have to give it and it's creator some credit. Not a horrible mix at all, but there are some things that I would love to see taken out or changed and updated to make it really stand out.
  17. Happy, has a nice beat from the old school hip-hop percussion that comes and goes. Generally, I like it, but man, way too short and not enough of an arrangement for me. Still, love the old-school beat.
  18. Oh yeah, I can hear the clipping in those drums. Not really a fan of how those sound actually, but I dig the beat and even the piano. Lack of humanization doesn't bug me, but it would have been the kind of touch that only helps a ReMix. Another case of where I liked where the arrangement was headed, but the production could use a little touch up.
  19. This does kinda have the spiritual sound of a GBA track, which is nice to hear for an NES classic. It is a little high end with certain sounds, but I guess I'm just not that bothered because I'm used to it from various experiences. Not bad really, but not DJP's best.
  20. The intro to this was nice, but what really made my ears perk up was that piano and percussion combo starting at about 0:47 which lead straight into the rest of the mix. Cool choice of writing there. Lots of enthusiasm going on throughout the mix, and while there are certain production items that sounded a bit off or just came off as too much, there was really nothing that turned me off to it. Overall, intro was definitely the strongest part, but the whole mix was a nice piece of work. Not bad.
  21. Not being familiar with the Getsu sources (even though certain parts sounded familiar because of that Sound Shower thing DJP mentioned, now that I think about and am listening for it), if you had told me that the intro original stuff was ReMixed from a game, I'd have believed it. It had a groove that I could imagine in a game. I liked the arrangement choice here and the style really makes the entire ReMix pop with the energy of a lighter disco, as you described with the whole Turkish Disco thing. Nicely done.
  22. Grand, tense Hollywood like take Death Mountain, now this is cool. If this was used for a Zelda movie trailer, I'd have loved it. The change at 1:38 was a nice touch and I enjoyed the less booming section near the end as play-off to the rest of the mix. You could really feel the energy in this one. Solid debut.
  23. Man, Mazedude, you seriously know how to make a downright evil ReMix. The SFX were incredibly fitting, the heavy percussion and monstrous organ (which I love to death) and the dark build up, it's all so nightmarish. I've heard of seven minutes in heaven. Now we have eight minutes in hell. Sweet stuff, Mazedude.
  24. Dude, that freaking intro! Grand opening with menacing dubs building up, leading to all hell breaking loose was awesome. The dubstep was done in a way that wasn't grating or abrasive, but instead brought out the power along with the more orchestral parts. And then when you picked the energy up at about 2:20 to give it a little bit more of a DnB style of beat, I really enjoyed that change up. Haven't really heard many songs do that, so that was pretty sweet to hear. Good way to end out the flood, I'd say.
