  1. Male and 20 It ranges, but when I do game I like to set aside 2 hours to get the most out of it.
  2. Just finished our mix.. sending over to Flexstyle for some lovin'. It's pretty short, but interesting all the same. I'm pretty sure it'll come out super kick-ass once Flexstyle's done with it. Also, right in the middle of the compo my mix gets accepted to OCR. Don't disqualify me
  3. Congrats Mr. Willrock. I still hate British people. (joking of course)
  4. Halcyonspirit, if you really liked K-ON!, then seriously Yuru Yuri should be the next thing you watch. Seriously. It's too good. Of course there's such a thing as too much moe. So if you're at that point then chillin' out with some more action would be good. Nice reviews, by the way. Going to try and watch Evangilon soon, speaking of. Maybe. Really I'm just trying to get all the short, 12-14 episode classics out the way (along with a few others). Just got a external hard drive storage which I badly needed and have been on an anime craze as of late. After I'm finished with Shigofumi I'm onto Serial Experiements Lain. Then probably Evangilon. Then whatever else comes after that. Probably another mystery series.
  5. Making good progress here. Not as far as I'd like to be, but if I'm persistent I should have a good arrangement finished off by midnight tonight. This is not a source I expected to cover, I can only hope I'm doing it a little justice 'cause it's pretty freaking awesome..
  6. Yeah, that's not unusual at all. There has to be some way to get your creative juice running. Many good professional musicians have their ways to escape music and get that creativity back. The simplest thing I can do is just hang out. I can go out, eat with some friends, go to the park, whatever. Sometimes I just get inspired by people. I'm also a very visual person when it comes to music. From hiking in the mountains, to just simply looking at art helps a lot. I come with a lot of melodies, chord progressions, etc. just from being outside, though.
  7. Do want to drop in as an Acer customer, I would not recommend it. Have not been pleased with the company as a whole, you have to go through hell to get in touch with them if your warranty runs out. Customers service isn't great at all. Also, the labtops like Flexstyle said are not that reliable. Go with a better company. Specs are fine, IMO. Just a different brand name would be recommended.
  8. Happy birthday Mr. DJPretzel. Wish you best!
  9. Hey Flexstyle, I saw we were paired up on the Remixing with the Stars competition.

I posted in the thread, but at the moment I'm at a job (just got the job yesterday, actually), and out of town. I plan on spending more time with my bosses than you know, behind my computer, at least for now... but the job will be over on Saturday (hopefully, maybe before) and I'll be back home and all set up to work on music (unless another job happens, in which case I'll figure something out)

Also, any preferred methods of communicating? I've got skype and AIM. PM'ing here works too.

    FL Studio is my DAW.

  10. Just wanted to get this message out to my possible future star - I just got a job (yay : D) from Wednesday - Saturday (technically start tomorrow though since I'm driving out then) and will be out of town. I'm not entirely sure of what times I'll be able to spend on the internet (gonna be at a hotel), but I'm probably going to be spending more time with my hopefully future bosses rather than in front of a computer screen.. just to make a good impression and stuff. So yeah, just as a little heads up. This doesn't mean I won't have internet at all though, so feel free to message me via PM here and we'll back and forth through that. We can at least hopefully have an idea of what to do so we can start composing Sunday.
  11. Yes it does, mostly because of that insane clown on my FL Studio monitor that keeps staring at me. In all seriousness, I do sometimes get a little iffy when writing original music at least. Remixes, it's free game.. but with original music.. I just have this creeping feeling sometimes that I'm just writing down someone else's music that's just been stuck in my head for a long time. It scares me that what I call original isn't so original after all.. but at some point I just end up going with the flow.. doing my best to avoid cliche riffs, improvise.. and more importantly just express myself. That's the most important thing in the end...
  12. Thank YOU SuperiorX. This competition was a great idea, and the music that came out of it was some of the best Sonic remixes I've heard in a while (maybe ever). It takes true guts to hold down something like this. Thanks for being dedicated through everything (issues, drama, whatever else might have gone down)- hopefully next year will be an equally if not more awesome year for Sonic music. : D
  13. I want to pop in this thread and just say that I really like the arrangement. The instruments are really cool. I would have preferred more stereo width in some of the instruments, but that's not an issue really, just preference. Haha. Great sound design here. Thank you for loving Kirby.
  14. Sources (Both sources are only about 3 seconds long, so won't take long to get the gist of the arrangement): - "Title Screen" - "Floating Tile World"Remix: https://www.box.com/s/a9023c8637e3d2f72fea Hardcore inspiration on this one, but of course as with most pieces I get super inspired on, I've run into a brickwall. Not sure what it is, but I'm really trying hard to bring this arrangement to full circle. I feel like another minute or minute and a half would be just fine for this kind of thing.. just gotta figure out what that minute and a half is going to be. I'd hate to put an incomplete song out there again, but usually when I do with something like this, it becomes easier to complete the song with getting proper feedback, 'cause you guys are pretty smart . And also like hell I know how to compose a proper solo piano piece. The piano is EQ'd the crap out of by the way, I've pumped up the lows and highs a lot. Any EQ'ing tips on this piece would be helpful (if necessary). The feeling for the piano I'm going for is dark and eery. Dreadful in a sense, but not scary or anything like that.
  15. It's not going to be the rendering most likely. It's probably the mixing itself, just because everything sounds good one on studio setup doesn't mean it's going to sound good on everything - you gotta try and mix on various things to get the "perfect" sound. Advice, listen to the song on different things. Mix on your monitors first, then mix it on headphones (which really, you should ALWAYS mix on a good pair of headphones, regardless of if you have monitors or not. Mixing on both is the best way to get a solid mix), then try listening to it in your car, and mix it to your car. Then you can take it even further and listen to the song on a crappy pair of earbuds from a dollar store, and mix it a bit on there. If this is confusing at all, the whole point of this is to basically to get one good mix through listening on all these things. Mixing on just monitors alone doesn't mean it's going to sound good on everything else. Hope that's not confusing. edit: also the subwoofer thing like moseph said. always good to consider that. oh yeah also i should mention because i don't think it's that obvious, you're not going to get one "perfect" mix that sounds totally awesome on every single pair of speakers ever, you're just going for solid. if you have to make decisions to sacrafice quality on those earbuds, then i'd do that before anything else.
  16. Oh, I thought you linked those moods for examples layered over the trance music. Like, mood over untss basically. My post was completely off then. My bad D: Try this, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skF88qCS8p8 edit: i'll link some more of WoW's music. Shards of the Exodar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OieYYCgrtTg&feature=relmfu Ghostlannd Woods (this ones more orchestral mind you) Hellfire Peninsula
  17. Does it have to be untss? Because I'm going to take this time to whore myself out (it's electronica / orchestra, but it's worth a shot I think) But, if you want something REALLY good ambient electronic, then you're going to want to start off with this: I mean seriously, that song is exactly what you're looking for.
  18. This sounds awesome. That little backwards whip that comes in at places like :53 with the rev cymbal is weird, but it sounds like some kind of reference to the game or something. Haven't played it in a while so am probably wrong on that. Nice work! : D
  19. Watching the K-ON! Movie. I'm in moe heaven, and I love it.
  20. I'm getting that same message. I hope nothing bad happened to the project page. Probably just a bug, though..
  21. That could be the harp, it was kind of distracting and honestly hurting my ears on my headphones now that I listened to it more. Gonna try and master it a bit better. Also good comment on the ending, I didn't think that it really interfered with the atmosphere of the song too much. I'm going to see about trying different things for it. thanks for the feedback!
  22. **Just so there's no confusion, this song was originally called "Flying with You", but it was changed in order to fit on my new EP. No reason not to post this here I guess - still have about 1 week before I can submit anything to OCR, so wanna go ahead and get some last minute feedback before I sub this one. Did it for the Sonic Zone Remix Competition. Sources: (plays until :47 in video. It's the harp pattern in the remix - usage of this was completely unintentional, after about half way through the song when I realized I was using it, I decided to keep it though, just because it sounded good)Remix: https://www.box.com/s/tv73v60gxmpdowq6o5zn this one by my standard is super liberal. I pretty much only use the riff from :19-:26 of the second source, and the main riff of sky chase zone along with the chords from that song. Yeah, super liberal, but the sources are still noticable - so there's that. Please comment if you notice anything about the production, or think arrangement needs to be changed up at all. Don't plan on putting this up for mod review - this is my comfort zone in music and I don't feel like I need in-depth critics at this point. edit: oh yeah, I know the reverb on the main synth used in the chorus may be a little odd compared to the rest of the instruments, but it was all intentional. I wanted the melody to be drowned out in the song, it gives a cool feel IMO. oh yeah, also i put another source in
  23. Did myself a favor and went ahead and got both the Carpe Fulgur collection and LIMBO. I might purchase more come Friday if anything good comes up. edit: Playing Limbo already. It frightens the piss out of me. Love it. : D
  24. If I see this driving around Atlanta, then I'm going to scream "Y U NO LIEK REMIX" out my window and hope that he doesn't send jooj-cat to scratch my face off. I still stand by my treat everyone to fast food idea, btw. Also haven't said this yet, but congrats to OCR for all the support ya'll have gotten. It's awesome to see how much support this site gets, and even more so how awesome it is that there's so many people who love VGM as much as the people on OCR do. Can't wait for this album to get released. FF6 has kickass music. : D
