This feels very housey to me. That little plucky sound at 1:50 that hangs out on the left side( or maybe its right, i think my speakers are inverted. ) i feel like could slowly pan back and forth or something, it sounds good, and it fits in the mix nicely, but it feels too static to me.

we're always gentle and yes you can edit you submission usually. i think you just have to delete your entry and reupload it. As for the good sounding samples, The term you are looking for is presets i think. unless you just mean specific samples like a trumpet or flute, and then its just called a sample i think.

dulles is pretty far, but Ronald Reagan Washington National is right across the river from the resort.

i ended up planning a route using the local metro system. theres a shuttle the takes you from one of the green line stations straight to the resort, so all is well! I didnt realize there was an airport in dc as well as baltimore. Common sense i suppose, but ive never bought plane tickets before, so at least its the right state!

i think alot of people overestimate the power of "good plugins". when youre new enough at this, you dont even NEED "good" samples because youll likely not even know how to use them or make them fit well anyways. maybe instead, you could experiment with various free samplers, synths and soundfonts until you find some plugins that you enjoy using. It probably sounds like useless information, but i think its not always about the samples or synths specifically, but just how you use them in a mix. experiment and ask for feedback! also, this source is bonkers, im having a good time with this.

I didnt make 5 original tunes, but i did win 3 rounds of the PRC and two rounds in other Compos, so musically its still been a good year for resolutions. Didnt do any of my other resolutions though.

join the compos my freind! I find i write out at least three WIPS a month, give or take. last month i wrote like 5 because of all the compos i tried out in, but sometimes you just have dry spells. occasionally though, you get really inspired and youll make like three or four stems in a week. finished songs on the other hand....

interesting how this one is turning out. posted remixers are getting whomped by not posted remixers. this means there damn well better be more takers for being a star on remixing with the stars!

Anyone in the area that could grab me on the 1st? worst case though, i dont mind bussing it. I use public transit here at home and as long as i get there by the end of the day on the 1st, then im game. I chose to fly in a day early for that exact reason. Ill message you unununium about the room!

Ok so im going to likely be flying in on the 1st, but i have no idea how to get to the hotel from the airport. any buses or shuttles i should look into?

I think the general concensus is that usb mics are for best used for voiceovers or podcasting since they seem to have more latency than using a dedicated audio interface. If im not mistaken, the A/D converter is built into USB mics and isnt as good/fast as a dedicated A/D converter in even a cheap interface. There are usb mics that have headphone jacks in them however, which helps with the latency issue.

im sure if you ask zircon he would just tell you i think he hangs out in IRC once in a while too.

you shouldnt tune it out ! Personally i envy people with classical training. youre not mucking around in the dark as much when it comes to musicality. I know people say you dont need to know theory, but i feel like youre much better off knowing theory. you cant transpose a song if you dont know how to determine the key, you can beef up melodies with harmonies. etc. speaking of transposing, this week is looking grim. Gogo appears too strong for Cait sith. But really im just having writers block this week. ill fight till the end though!
