  1. Some of you might've gotten an earlier version of this on IRC via ocrwip. Arrangement wise, this probably won't be that different, I just changed some of the synths and mixing of this. That said, though, here's Jewel of the Night, an electro house remix of Jewel Man's theme. Emerald Version <--Version 0.5137(Now on box.net!) Quartz Version. <-- Version 0.5(Actually finished, arrangement wise!) Jade Version<-- Version 0.49¯(Totally not finished, but close to it!) Onyx Version<-- Version 0.45(still Unfinished) Sapphire Version<-- Version 0.4(Unfinished, kinda cuts off...)
  2. http://jhsounds.com/track/infamy Listen to this(wonderful) track. It used samples, does that make it any less musical? The samples used in this were actually taken from a rather famous(not infamous ) speech on Pearl Harbour. Samples can still be used musically and make something wonderful and new. While we're at it, let's look at this song. I'm sure you've heard it before, it's rather popular. It used samples rather extensively. Samples don't just mean you're selling out and using other people's work. If you can take something and turn it into something else, that's still a wonderful accomplishment in your own right.
  3. It's definitely house. And it's not the synths, it's the percussion. Your hihat is weird sounding.
  4. Super awesome find. They also have a distortion/filter plugin for free, too. Thanks for showing me!
  5. Yay, this is getting some recognition(I remixed this before, you can find it on my youtube channel)! I don't like the samples in here, they have this odd grating side to them. The melody itself is incredibly repetitive too, and rather flat. The second part to the song is rather undermixed. The ending was rather sudden, as well. Why wasn't in this in the "Post your remixes" section, btdubs? is there any reason for it? SUPER EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3UQhWx61OE <-- the remix! It's not that good though, it's kinda old.
  6. If you want to resample a pattern, go into pattern mode and hit export, it will export only that pattern.
  7. Madoka Magica is good, but the ending is a little bit ridic. Lain is okay if you're into pretentiously meaningless drivel(so basically, for Eva fans amirite?), but you need to do so much plot analysing before it becomes even remotely comprehensible and to 99% of the people(AKA non-aspies) this is totally not worth it. EDIT: I prefer subs for everything except Gurren Lagann, Suzimiya Haruhi, Cowboy Bebop, and Samurai Pizza Cats.
  8. FreeAlpha is really great, but why TAL-Elek7ro? There's a newer version out.
  9. 1. There's no definitive amount. It's different for every mix, and every instrument. 2. It does. EDIT: They are right about learning to make use of what you have being better than trying to upgrade. At first, I thought that if I had killer synths like Massive, Zebra 2 and FM8 it would instantly improve my sound quality(as opposed to Synth1 and 3xOsc). While they are quality synths, it's still superior to learn how to use what you have than to constantly try to "upgrade".
  10. Site seems a little too elitist for my tastes, but I didn't really get the whole "TECHNO IS THE DEVIL DEATH TO FAKE MUSIC" vibe some of the posters were talkin' about. To be fair, though, I didn't really give it much of a chance. OCR is the music site for me
  11. Oh, it's no bother. And you should post stuff you're working on here in the originals/remix section(depending on whether or not it's a remix) so you can get critique. We'd be glad to hear it =D
  12. http://soundcloud.com/eilios/fantabulous-moment Light Dubstep WIP I've been working on + pipe organs. Can never have enough of those. Comments?
  13. Love Philter is wonderful, I'm totally an addict to it. I can vouch for it . Steer clear of the FL drum sets, even the new ones. They can be good in moderation and heavily filtered, but it's just too much work and not really worth it. Transitions can be done pretty easily, a drum variation, slicing a part of the percussion 1 measure before you get into the main loop, filtered white noise leading up to it... there are plenty of options. Keep working on this!
  14. The kick is weak. Really weak, work on buffing up the percussion. I love your use of orchestral samples in this(TOTALLY NOT BIASED OR ANYTHING), but they need more humanisation. The vibrophone sounding thing near the end doesn't really have any change in velocity, nor do the strings. It's rather apparent. The synth you have at the beginning has way too dramatic of a cutoff automation, as well. Tone it down. Speaking of that synth, it's abrasive, you might want to work on programming it a little better. Overall, too, this needs better transitions. The full beat, while not that badly programmed(albeit weak) only comes in for a few measures and even then it just comes out there at random. And I'd like to hear more bass. Not a bad start, though. With better production this could be a very nice track. Change your percussion samples for real, though. They're not good sounding. Are you using FL Studio's default percussion? It sounds like it to me, but I'm not exactly sure as they're really undermixed. If so, don't. A really good sample pack for free if you're willing to edit out some clicks that keep creeping up in the samples(you get what you pay for ) is FL Studio Mania 2. Google it. You will have to use Edison to remove clicks in some of the samples, but it's a decent sample pack for free - far better than FL Studio default samples.
  15. I can vouch for Rozovian's guide. I saw a very early release of it and it was pretty solid stuff. Eagerly awaiting official release. Just FYI, though, if you actually want to read Rozovian's guide you absolutely must comment on the quality of it. Not even joking here. It's a requirement to getting it. The best way to learn music is to make music. Lots of it. All beginning music is pretty terrible, so don't feel bad if your first 50 or so pieces are awful. Just keep at it, it gets better .
  16. The riff sounds somewhat odd, but I fully agree with Moseph about the melody. It's really nice, you need to work it in better because this could be a really nice theme if you handle it tactfully.
  17. And you absolutely do not want to start a new character after getting to mid-level only to find out that your character is useless. Korean MMOs are notoriously grind-centric.
  18. Ah, well, I guess I misunderstood your post, then. Either way, though, it is helpful to learn these techniques regardless, so they're still worth checking out.
  19. Sure he does. (Zebra 2 programming series below) But you are right about learning to self-teach. Walkthrough videos can only get you so far. Everyone has their own style of doing things, and if all you know how to do is copy examples you're not going to get anywhere at all.
  20. Like, seriously, if you don't even know who you're plagiarising from maybe you shouldn't be using the internet. Among other things
  21. Alright. I do like classically-styled rearrangements, but you have to be careful when doing things with real instruments. If you don't have the best quality samples, it can sound really off, and people will complain. And if you don't have good recordings, the same problem will happen. Not to put you off, though. With the right samples, you can make some wonderful stuff that way. Just a word of warning.
  22. Number one thing to ask yourself: what do you want to do with FL Studio? Answer this first, because if you think of FL Studio as a program instead of a canvas, you're going to be limited. Think about what you want to do with it, not about what you can do. Music is an artform, and electronic music's still music! That said though, until we know what genre you're going for, it's hard to make recommendations in particular. That said, though, I recommend looking up ste1438's "fl studio beginner to pro" series, zircon's video tutorials, and just generally experiment. There's a lot of work to get to the point where you'll sound great, but in the end it's definitely worth it.
  23. The best superhero. He can even breathe in space! GJ, Batman!
  24. I'd like to say that I'm happy that the music in this game is getting some more recognition. Nice remix(I don't like the snare sample that much personally), but this seems like a really nice medley.
  25. I'm aware of the fact that you need acoustic treatment on the room you master in, and that headphones are not ideal for mixing. I was more confused at the bold sentence making absolutely no sense grammatically, and seemingly contradicting the overall message of the post.
