  1. Aaaaand, as previously indicated, the project is now out on a variety of platforms:

Pick your favorite, check it out, like it, review it, share it, all that fun stuff. Oh, and physical CDs are also now available through Bandcamp for anyone who wants to have and to hold it. :)

I'll add that I've also got a pretty cool start on the first Kickstarter commission reward remix, so... stay tuned, there are some pretty cool free follow-up goodies on the way.

  2. I'll be there... first time in a few years now, although I'm still proud to say that I was at the very first one, way back when. Sometimes I still think of it by the original name "Mid-Atlantic Gaming Festival" - now there's some trivia for y'all. :)

Looking forward to seeing you guys there; hit me up if - nay, WHEN - there's to be an OCR hangout! (Or two, or three...) Cell: 315-744-2839.

  3. 24 hours left y'all. Pledge before it's over. :)

And with that, I present the remaining track teasers:

Enjoy, and please, help me make this campaign a success by spreading the word and sharing this link wherever your heart tells you: http://kck.st/29VAqtA

And, again, thanks to everyone here for their amazing support through this campaign. I love you guys.

  4. Figured I'd share all the extended track teasers and behind-the-scenes stories that have been released so far, since there are a lot and it's quite possible that folks have missed some... and it'll save you having to dig through the "updates" tab on the campaign:

So... yeah. Enjoy. There are still a few days left in the campaign, and I do have a few more teasers and stories on the way... but that's the bulk of them right there!

  5. Big update everyone... today we hit 100%!!! The project is now officially funded. Huge, huge thanks to OCR for the help.

That said, we have 7 days to go, and to celebrate, today I added a new stretch goal. Help me get to the next level, and the next remix I do as a post-launch bonus track will be...

    "Baba Yetu"

By Christopher Tin, from Civilization IV:

It's been requested a lot over the years actually, but man... a hard one to do justice to. But let's keep this funding momentum going over the next few days, and I'll make it happen. :)

    Thanks again!!!

  6. Quick update: by popular demand, I've added some new "digital only" reward options, for those who want to support the project from afar without any shipping and handling fees attached. If you're one of those... you're welcome. :)

Today we hit 100 backers!!! It's exciting, but we still have some ground to cover in the 10 days that remain; I'm counting on all of your support! (Btw, even more extended teasers are available in the "updates" portion of the campaign now, with more on the way.)

  7. So, good news everyone! We've hit the 50% mark! http://americanpixels.com/50-percent.php

    story_50percent.jpg

And, umm, not quite bad news, but well, there's still that other 50% to hit. Now, I personally have been on the other side of the equation where I see a Kickstarter I like, I don't go pledge right away, and rather I'll sit back and watch for a bit... and then eventually pledge when it gets down to the wire. Well, if you're reading this, do me a favor. Don't be that guy. :) (Now that I've been on the receiving end here, I'm making myself a promise not to be that guy again, heh.)

Let's ensure that this thing becomes a reality; if you've been waiting and wondering, well, now's a good chance to act. Get your pledge in before time runs out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1265656914/american-pixels-a-game-music-tribute-album-by-maze

In other fun news, I've been enhancing that link with extended track previews in the "Updates" portion - and will continue to over the next couple weeks - so if you want to hear more of the music before deciding how much to pledge, feel free, and enjoy the stories behind the tracks! (Stay tuned to my FB page for more stories as they are released.)

  8. Ever write a bunch of music for a project, to basically be told "yeah... it's good... but it's too dark and heavy"...? Well, I have.

That's what happened with this collection I put together here a while ago (it occurred that I put it on Bandcamp but don't think I ever shared it here). The project director asked me to then write some music that wouldn't "scare the children," hence the title, heh.

It's original, but it definitely has a video gamey quality to a whole lot of it, so, enjoy. :)

  9. Friends,

I have awesome news. At long last... after five years of talking about it... American Pixels is here. The project has just landed on Kickstarter for the final push, this 4th of July in the year of our Lord 2016.

This has been a labor of love, blood, sweat, and tears... and damn the music came out awesome, if I do say so myself. Now I just need that last little nudge to cover the cost of mastering, licensing, CD duplication, etc.

Any and all help from the OCR crew to spread the word would be vastly appreciated; let's make this thing EPIC together!

  10. Oof. Found out that I won't be able to make this conference after all. Shoot. Sorry to get your hopes up folks; turns out the higher ups where I work took too long to get back to me about this and now things are either filled up, unavailable, or too expensive. Which kinda makes me grumpy since I brought this up back in freakin' January. Grumble grumble.

I'll make it out there one of these days! In the meantime if y'all do a hangout anyways, have a drink for me. :)

  11. Phooey, well thanks for letting me know. I'm waiting to hear back from another contact about a place to crash, so hopefully it'll all work out. I've only ever been to SF once and it was a very rushed trip, so I'd enjoy a chance to actually see the city for a couple days this time, heh.

  12. Hey hey, sounds promising! Good deal.

It's still very tentative at this point; my company is being iffy about the cost it would take to send me out there, although they totally see the benefit it would bring. I guess a follow-up question would be - in order to help them save money and thus afford the plane tickets - would I be able to crash with anyone if I had to? Mirby? Waleed? A simple couch would suffice.

And yeah if it works out, let's definitely arrange a hang-out, it's funny that there'll be some other folks out there for work as well.

  13. Hey gang; Mazedude here. So, this is very tentative, but I might be coming out to San Francisco next month, and it could be fun to hang with some OCR peeps while I'm in town. I've only been out that way once, ever, but this time it could be for a whole week. Big web developer's conference in downtown that I'd like to attend. And I imagine there are probably some folks I know who don't often get to come to the East Coast events like MAGFest, yeah?

So, just throwing that out there; not sure how busy I'll be networking and all at the event, but around the training it could be fun to have someone I know show me the city a little. :)

  14. First, there was the 7th Guest. A groundbreaking puzzle game that incorporated live actors, an intriguing story, lots of general creepiness… and great music.

Second, there was the 11th Hour. Admittedly I can’t offer a ton of comments on this one, as I had a hard time getting it to work on my PC (during the era of constantly updating requirements and hardware issues that changed from game to game). Again though, the music was quite good, released in a combo soundtrack with the first game under the title “7/11.”

Many years later, the 7th Guest returns, to iPhone and iPad. A beloved game that was no longer accessible comes back to be reborn on new platforms, and open up the eyes of a new audience. And… in an interesting twist, there’s some new music in there. To be specific, Mazedude music. Yep, somehow I captured the ears of the top guys, and they plugged in one of my remixes as an end credits bonus. Which led to…

The 7th Guest: Infection. One of the original puzzles, fleshed out into its own game. Complete with new original music by yours truly. They gave me a shot, and it worked out rather well, both in terms of style, and a working relationship.

    Now… at long last…

The 7th Guest 3: The Collector – now on Kickstarter, and gearing up for production.

Those of you who played the original games back in the 90s; get ready for a long awaited sequel. Those of you new to the series, brace yourselves for the perfect combination of puzzles and spooky stuff. And dare I say… new music? Why if you scroll down on that Kickstarter page you can even hear some new tunage I’ve written for the game already. :)

Friends, this has potential to be really freakin’ awesome, on many levels. Please back the project. The fact that one of my favorite childhood PC games is coming back is incredible enough – the fact that I can potentially be a part of it and create the music for it is beyond words.

  15. Well folks, I am pleased to announce...

... that Mazedude will be there this year. Hell yeah.

Last time I made it out to MAG, a few years back, I actually didn't get much of a chance to hang out with the OCR folks, and I'd like to change that. So, screw it, here's my phone #: 315-744-2839. At the event, if there's an OCR party or hangout going on, and I'm not there, shoot me an invite. I do not want to be bored. :)

    Looking forward to it!

  16. Well, I did use a Pepsi bottle as an instrument in this track - http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01015/

All in all I think it comes down to being creative and expanding your arsenal beyond the conventional, over-used sounds. I mean, there are classical, symphonic instruments that we don't see used on OCR often either. Bassoon, for example. Does the make it -unusual-? Or just, unconventional? This conversation reminds me of the debates in composition class at college, heh.
