  1. Thanks for posting! Some housekeeping things to get out of the way: Make sure you post the source in your original post. Also, we recommend not using YouTube to host your files; it can mess up sound quality, and there are free hosting sites (soundcloud, mediafire, tindeck, for example) that you can use. Now that's out of the way, let's get to the song. There are some weird panning things happening, as well as some dissonance around the part at 1:04. In addition, it seems as though the two guitar parts don't quite match up. I'm not sure if you're planning on submitting to the site or not, but if you are, then this track needs more length and arrangement. Typically, arrangements require more than two minutes to convey a true sense of arrangement for the source. Right now you're at a little over a minute, and this is more of what we here at OCR would call a cover rather than a ReMix. Try soloing or switching up the rhythm a bit to make the song your own. Also, here's the link to our submission standards: http://ocremix.org/info/Submission_Standards_and_Instructions This is a pretty decent take on a kick ass source tune other than the issues i've addressed, so good luck and keep up the good work!
  2. You might consider revising the vocal; i don't know how OCR feels about having the voice from the actual game in the song. Someone smarter than me can comment on that. drums are pretty loud, especially the hat. for me, the arrangement is okay, but it seems sort of repetitive. I know that's an element of techno, but the song doesn't really progress; this may be a part of the less than stellar transitions that have already been mentioned. maybe try mixing up the instrumentation in synths once in a while. Lastly, don't use YouTube. get a soundcloud, mediafire, or tindeck account for uploading songs. YouTube can screw up the sound quality. Good luck with the track, Still Alive is a great source and i'm sure you can do it justice.
  3. That kick sounds a little punchy in the beginning. good orchestral elements for the most part. the drums are noticeably lacking in production: get some better samples or layer drums better (especially that kick). I'm not too excited about the synth either, but its not terrible. e-guitar works well. reading over the comments, i agree with a lot of what was said here. arrangement is very conservative; Darangen gave some good tips on mixing it up. it also wouldn't hurt to take the chord progression of the source and solo a bit to keep things interesting. If this is finished writing-wise, i'd let the piano sustain for a bit more at the end; right now the end seems abrupt. Keep up the good work!
  4. You took my shit sandwich of a joke and made it beautiful.
  5. March is Hate the Staff month. Everyone make sigs
  6. Current gen always has poor design until it is replaced with a new gen in which case it becomes genius. No Exeptions.
  7. In all seriousness I'm pretty excited for this - Splashwo Man has a great theme. Another question: are these the compo versions, or are these revised versions?
  8. If I download it will you promise to stop with the Splash Woman remix fetish?
  9. DUNSPARCE FTW ...in all seriousness my favorite is Honchcrow. Which is interesting because my friends favorite is Mismagius, and they seem to go together.
  10. Maybee it's just me, but I felt as though gen V had a lot of mons with overlooked types (like poison). Something I always though would be an interesting game changer would be to to dual type attacks. Scald, for instance, could be water/fire. For the starters, they could have the evolved form be grass/fighting, fire/dark, and water/psychic. It would be in the evolved form, so players would have experience with the game by then, and it also evens the playing field, so to speak. Fire is good against grass, but fighting is good against dark. The two loops keep things interesting, and it also gives the psychic/dark problem a fix (although, by that time the trainer should have other mons to help as well) Also, regionhoppingregionhoppingregionhoppingregionhopping ( it would be great dlc)
  11. This guy's got a sweet beard. o and his piano playing is nice too i guess.
  12. Not much to say here other than what Gario said. As it stands, its very messy. Try to EQ, compress, and add some subtle panning to spread out the sound so it's more organized and pleasant for your listener. Gario's already given you the 411 on arrangement, so i wont bother saying anything about that. Welcome to the community, and good luck in any future mixes.
  13. I can agree that it's very right heavy. Good instrumentation. You could stand to swell the volume at at the last section (the climax).
  14. very loud brass at the beginning is startling, and not in a musical way. I'd lower the volume just a tad around :56 there's some intonation issues with the violins. this is also true for the flute later on (I believe its a bit flat, but i could be wrong). This continues on throughout the piece with other instruments. NEADS MOAR PERCUSSION. I'm not just saying this as a percussionist, but right now this arrangement doesn't really take me anywhere musically. I'm not sure if you've finished writing or not, but as it stands, there's no climax. Swell to a musical point (which can be capped off very nicely by a cymbal crash) to keep things dynamic and interesting for your listener.
  15. Serenade was one the first VGM pieces i taught myself on piano. nice stuff. You've woven the two sources very nicely, but i feel that there is a lack in musical emotion i typically hear in excellent piano solos. Right now it seems as though this is being played by a student for an audition, rather than someone in a concert hall giving all of his heart. this is a really good start though. i look forward to hearing more versions of this
  16. bass at the beginning sounds eh sample-wise. overall, the samples are average. Try adding some velocity changes on these; right now, it's lacking some energy. arrangement wise, this is pretty conservative IMO, but its got its good parts. Try some more variation; this is a very recognizable source, and right now there's nothing popping out at me that's saying "hey, check out what I did" I enjoy the megaman style though. Keep up the work.
  17. The melody is lost at times behind the overbearing chords, namely in the beginning ish. also, at 1:52, you have a piano with the melody/variation doing some rocking solo, and it wasn't very apparent. bring that out. the song had some dissonant echo afterward, you might want to check that out. I'd echo the complaint about the reverb on the echo. some good ideas, but it just needs some tightening and fine tuning.
  18. Requested listen on IRC, listening to it right now. Startup: nice, i like the chill feel it has. Sounds like something i could listen to on a nice drive. Unrelenting Hate: whoa different style. DAT BASS. good stuff Chagrin: Eh, not so much on this one. I feel as though there's little variation here, which doesn't grab my attention. Temptation Rising: More variation with the sampling here which is nice. I'm liking the drums. Good effects here that keeps the sampling from remaining stagnant. I'm ever cold: Diggin the bassline. I keep waiting for the vocals to be sliced to something other than "im ever cold," like some "co-co-cold" or something to spice stuff up. Chasing sunrays: i like this one. Piano sounds nice, and the samples come together very nicely to create a sound better than the sum of their parts. Staff credits: good use of effects for transitions. bassline keeps things interesting, but i feel some parts are played perhaps one too many times. New Beginning: happy and bouncy, this one has quite a bit of energy that maintains throughout. i like the sound of the main sample here, as well as the brass in the background. Feel the sun: the mainipulation of the vocals at the beginning of this is what i was waiting for "im ever cold." piano meshes beautifully with the rest of the piece (i'm sort of a sucker for piano). Good changeup with the drums at the end. Unloved: i like this. The manipulation of the vocals in this is better than the previous songs. the effects are used in good regard as well. Ocean Riff: Niiiice. slower drum beat and smooth piano make this a chill piece. i thought the stringish sample was a little loud, but that certainly doesn't detract from the good layers, transitions, and instrumentation this piece possesses. In your eyes: vocals remain steady while the background changes in a piece that progresses nicely. at times i wish things would change up more dramatically. While the addition of another synth halfway through helps, some of the more subtle changes are lost through the consistent. Remember: nice waltzish beat changes things up a bit. more effects on the vocals, though i still wish for more altered samples. weird ending. Beginning reprise: good lead. the addition of the running countermelody is also appreciated, as well as the changeups in instrumentation. a good piece to end the album on a satisfied note. Overall, there are some hits and misses with this album. steady, chill energy is abundant here, but can be distorted through heavy repetition in some pieces. Regardless, this is an album that is definitely worth checking out.
  19. I turns out that Pokemon was all just a brainwashing cult project by Wario in order to get money winning "Pokemon battles." You heard it here first folks.
  20. I haven't downloaded the mixtape yet. Is it all his stuff? Also, i forgot to say how pretty freaking rad that album artwork is. Was that him as well?
  21. Lets be honest. Game freak could come out and say "yeah, we're still making pokemon," and we'd buy everything they'd give us until we died. That being said, I'm ridiculously over-pumped for this game already. The closest thing to a direct sequel we had was Gold/Silver/Crystal, and those were some of the best games out of the series IMO.
  22. I listened to this Me head exploded Then Savant came out of my computer and meticulously put me back together again.
  23. I started this in saphire and never finished. Probably because I normally play balls-to-the-wall hardcore risk taking pokemanz. Or i hate zigzagoon. Yeah. Probably that last one.
  24. Okay so i'm getting way to pumped to be a maybe. Sign me up for a definite yes, barring any schedule conflicts. *begins going through sonic soundtracks*
