  1. The Street Fighter 2 soundtrack is just amazing. Balrog's stage is definitely up there with being one of the best tunes in the game. The start of the mix wasn't too attention grabbing for me if honest. I'm glad I gave it chance though. As it moves on it builds into some really lush texturing that really enhance the original but give it a different vibe. The smooth sax lead works really well and the addition of all the strings, piano etc really raise and lower the tension at key points. When the chorus kicks in, its just fantastic. Such an amazing mix and definitely very very high quality stuff, especially considering it was posted back in 2002. This easily holds up by today's OCR standards. Regardless of that though, very enjoyable mix that every SF2 fan should download and enjoy.
  2. Such a beautiful track. This is an emotive and fantastic mix. The soundscape is just gorgeous and the leads ooze with feeling and expression. One of the first mixes I heard was of Mystix's Sunset Riders remix. Such a characteristic style that is just so absorbing and easy to listen to. I fully agree with DJP here, regardless as to whether you're familiar with the Shinobi soundtrack, this is really enjoyable.
  3. Ah, this is just amazing. As I hear more and more of DJP's mixes, he seems to come across as a really funkeh fella. Everything from the lead, to the bass are excellent. All the sounds entwine perfectly and compliment each other. The music constantly moves bringing in new motifs and taking others away. Always something going on but keeping funky at the same time. Really enjoyable and a highly reccommended download. You will be wanting to dance to this, no doubt.
  4. The soundtrack on Revenge of Shinobi is fantastic. It demonstrates really well the capability of the Genesis/Mega Drive. The soundscape here is really pretty and soothing. The drums keep the mix moving whilst not pushing it on too far or drawing attention away from the chilled lead lines. If you're wanting a chillout track to relax or work to, this is what you've been searching for. Great stuff, reccommended to to both shinobi and non-shinobi fans.
  5. Brilliant, I love it. This mix just focuses on the game's funkiness and multiplies it by a thousand. Great groove, lots going on and great production. As soon as I pressed play on this track it made me grin. Impressive solos, phat bassline and the sassy wah-guitar. I don't care if you haven't played the game before, you will love this track.
  6. I don't remember the original or the game very well but this is a bright and up-beat track. Nice, light and happy feeling. Having listened to some of Rayza's other tracks its a was a bit of suprise. Not a whole lot of complexity but certainly easy to listen to. Looking at other posted mixes around at the same time, the quality is pretty high. Good stuff, but not my kind of thing. Perhaps someone who is a fan of the game would get more from this.
  7. This is a great track. The sound design a little bit bland but the arrangement is good stuff. There are good step ups in energy raising and letting the listener back down. More variation in the drums would probably add a lot. Having said that though, this was posted a long time ago and its great to see where an artist has come from and where they're at now.
  8. Our team won't have an entry this week I'm sad to say. I think Cyril's been busier than he thought he would be
  9. Ok, you're right. Portal is amazing!! I'm gonna have to get the sequel. Damn you, I'm a little bit hooked.

  10. I'm not familiar with the source but I checked it out and although this is basically a cover, this is okay. The production is average and such BUT with some personal touches you could work this into something good. You say yourself its a remake, so its what I kind of expected. If you are wanting to be an artist on OCR check out some of the posted mixes and see how they differ to the originals. If you can, try and make this track your own by adding your own solo or something. If you feel this track done and dusted (which I'm assuming you are) start a new track and have an experiment. Post it here as a WIP and you can get some feedback on the arrangment aspects. There's always someone willing to lend a hand And yeah, thats a killer tune, good choice I'm gonna have to check this game out
  11. I'll be sure to watch myself then I do have a website, soundcloud and youtube, but at the moment my Youtube account is the most up to date: http://www.youtube.com/mrlidawg I updated the link, moved the mp3 to drop box as I get weird distortion on tindeck when I stream. Dunno what that's about. Remix: http://db.tt/6ApWcX94
  12. Thanks for all the encouraging comments. I've tweaked it a bit here and there and am now going to put this as mod-review. Remix: http://db.tt/6ApWcX94 The sources Knight Man: Mr. X Fortress: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt6y2E31y-Y
  13. I'm not the greatest reviewer but I thought whilst I was finding some more remixes to listen to I would do some reviews. Either way, was great checking out some of the older stuff.
  14. Loved the game and this remix is just perfect. It captures the feel of the game really well. That craziness with humour but the overshadowing darkness of the world and all of time being in danger. The playing is just beautiful, no other way to put it, its just beautiful.
  15. I just love it. I'm a big Streetlight Mannifesto fan and so thats probably why I love this. Its also because the performances and arrangement are just perfect. So much energy and drive. The solos are spot on and this track really feels like the band were performing in the same room. The female vocals work so well too. Nothing at all to complain about, its just Ska-rific!
  16. The introduction completely threw me off. I was fully expecting an orchestral rendition, but the arrangement steadily morphs into and mix of electronica and rock. This, is just fantastic and really well executed. There is a mix of many styles and they are all done really well. The arrangement makes this amazing and the performances just reinforce that further. It manages to keep you on your toes without throwing you every which way. The piano ending is just beautiful.
  17. There should be more Golden Axe remixes. This isn't a bad remix, though it does feel a little bit like the original with some frilly bits and a bigger beat added. Enjoyable, but I feel its only because of the original source being so strong. This is a source that has much more potential. With this being from 2002 I'm probably just being far too demanding, but with more variation in the build and pace would go far.
  18. Love it...just love it. There's a real 90's vibe but the arrangement is so much more intricate than just being a techno remix. There are lots of subtle little changes and transitions that add a beautiful orchestral feel. This track is really bright and cheerie You'd be hard pressed to not feel that little bit happier after hearing. Towards the end I feel the arrangement trails of a little bit and loses some of the initial interest but the start of the track is so attention grabbing that I don't care.
  19. Amazing. This is exactly how I would want a Contra remix to be. Rockin' with high energy. The sources really lend themselves to the style chosen. Definitely lovin' the guitar shredding and face melting solos. Arrangement-wise this is solid and the two themes are intergrated well, even if the Maze fortress theme is a little side-lined. I don't really care though as this is just so enjoyable.
  20. Not the easiest source to remix as there isn't much to it. Arrangement-wise this would definitely be a good source to mix with something else. This mix, though, is a great update of the original. It would fit pretty darn well into the game. As a piece of music to enjoy by itself, it falls a little short. What I do like about it though is it provides and good healthy does of nostalgia.
  21. Aw, Contra, or Probotector if you happened to be in Europe. So many fond memories of trying to beat this game. I never did know the cheat but then I was like 5 years old. The soundtrack is just fantastic and so its great to see that this series has had some remix love. The track is pretty good and the arrangement defintely gives a fresh feel to the source. I'm not sure the style is quite my thing, but theres a lot of energy and it defintely keeps the vibe of the game. The ending is just amazing. That final motif is expertly placed. A fun and zany mix worth checking out if you're a fan of the game.
  22. WOW! So many memories with come flooding back hearing this. The year that Red Alert came out was one Christmas that could not have arrived any slower for me. At the time there was a trailer for the game and Hell March was the music that accompanied it. I remember it giving me goosebumps then but yes. So good. Such a fantastic update to a fantastic source-tune. The mix of orchestral and metal here is just delicious. While the arrangement here is what conveys a lot of the power and grandioisity, the production minutely misses the opportunity to emphasize this.
  23. Woo, Command and Conquer has had some OCR love. A very chilled and ambient mix. The soundscape is really eerie and mysterious. The beat and other choices of synth give this a kind of James Bond/special agent feel. I can certainly see what DJP said about it being a on auto-pilot in some parts. Depsite it being a chilled and steady mix, there could still be a little more life injected in to it.
  24. One of the first games I ever played on the MegaDrive was Columns. I'm so happy to see a remix of it here. The arrangement is pretty good as the source doesn't have much to it. Nothing particularly amazing here, but still solid and enjoyable. It will certainly bring a smile to those that have played Columns.
