  1. I think the best approach is to be patient, forget about mixing until the compo starts. Once you find out your sources, proceed to panic, ending up in the mixer (ie me) ripping their hair out as they fruitlessly try and fuse two sources together into one cohesive tune........ If you prepare before hand, where's the thrill or realising you underestimated how much time was needed? This is also a fantastic and tasty approach!
  2. I have no idea what is going on in this thread. All I know, is I really wanna hear everyone's kickass Sonic tunes! Oh, and the pancake is muchly appreciated Edit: I need to learn how to read
  3. It could of been anything in honesty The reverb you were using, the player to play back the mix etc. One thing to do, to rule out it being the reverb vst/plugin would be just to try another and see what happens. But never mind, seems all good now!
  4. Sweeeeeeeeet! I'm not gonna say more until its finished........partly because I can't say anything more than "Yay, this is amazing" haha.
  5. Say what?! This is no place to spread blasphemy of this ever having been a compo thread. Move along....Lizard!!!
  6. I've never come across this problem myself (I use Cubase for all me stuffs) but definitely try what Moseph said. It does have real-time export. Why don't you post an mp3 of the export with and without the reverb. It might be a bit easier to discern what the problem could be by hearing it.
  7. I am so confused right now............All I know, is that I really really want a pancake.
  8. Sweeeeet hehe. Sounds good to me. And yeah, you're right. The thing is I just love the style and I know my source tune would work well with it Anywho, I'm really excited about this competition. I imagine all the trash talk will commense nearer the start time
  9. I'm not gonna lie Nuts, I'm super disapointed that I can't use your synth patches as I bet they're amazing. I remember your 80's and 90's styled tracks from WCRG and they were so enjoyable. Perhaps I'll have a look at them in Reason and try to recreate them in another synth
  10. I just realised.......You're not in the Sonic competition..........vat ze fock?!!

  11. If I go against AkumajoBelmont, I'll first cry and then attempt the most amazing 80's synth rock track Sonic will ever see (Not gonna lie, I'm most likely gonna try the 80's thing regardless)
  12. Make a thread in the recruitment forum but also look here first :http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33481
  13. Much improvement over the first version I heard. I'm on my laptop but there doesn't seem to be the clipping there was before. General points: I know its not always feasable but if you can, try and find some higher quality samples. Having said that, some EQ and reverb would do wonders to up the production values. The synth at about 40 secs doing the arpeggios needs to come down a bit in volume and could do with a tad of reverb or something. Perhaps try and find a better patch or thicken up the sound by playing around with the synthesis. Arrangement-wise, everything I posted before is still applicable BUT good job on mixing up the instrumentation a bit and getting the levels balanced. Don't be afraid to whack in a completely original section to extend what is there or use parts of the melody to create other accompanying motifs.
  14. 1. Starlight Zone (Sonic 1 - 16bit) 2. Lava Reef Zone (Sonic & Knuckles) 3. Aquatic Ruin Zone (Sonic 2 - 16bit) 4. Marble Zone (Sonic 1 16-bit) 5. Chemical Plant zone (Sonic 2 - 16bit) WOO YEAH BABY!!!!
  15. What hits me straight away is how good the synths sound and true to the 80's vibe they are. The percussion also emphasize and enhance the mix a lot. The rendition of Magical Sound Shower is great. I like the personal touches a lot. I think this is definitely ready for submission. I so want to offer some more substantial feedback but this sounds AWESOME. The expression on the leads is fantastic and the mix is, as usual, full, warm and balanced. With this, the sources are interwoven well and there is cohesion as you refer back to previously used sources, bar MSS but that's fine as its more like a bridge. It is really well melded in btw. My only comment would be on the ending. I feel that more tension could be built up before finish. Whether you use higher octaves before the final repeat of the main melody or by dropping the bass for a bar or two, I think you could have a more......definite ending. Its a tiny tiny point that is more personal opinion than anything else. Great stuff bud, I really like it
  16. Its very nice to see an orchestral ReMix. This is very well done, the source is recogniseable and there is significant expansion on the original. The textures make this track very enjoyable. It does sound as though it could be used seemlessly alongside the game's soundtrack. I'd agree that there could have been a little more melodic writing, but great stuff!
  17. The board works pretty well. Mod reviews are fantastic and I always find them very helpful and insightful. Its unavoidable but I think anyone who mixes anything apart from Mega Man, Sonic, Mario or Final Fantasy will have a hard time getting feedback unless they ask someone. This isn't so much a gripe but something I've noticed as I'm the same. Mostly, I'll comment on sources I know. It's easier. Everyone who comments here is very helpful and haven't really noticed anyone being rude. So as a place where you can post your music and get honest feedback, I think the board is doing great. I don't think there is anywhere else like this on the interwebs.
  18. Haha, thanks Rexy. I know, I'm very slow :P That's honestly made my day :)

  19. Yeah bud! Just found out. I am so chuffed. Thank you :D

  20. Posting as Mod review as I think this is as good as I can get this arrangement plus I haven't had any other feedback, so hope that's ok Source Breakdown: 00:00 - 00:20 - Extended version of source introduction's section B 00:20 - 00:33 - Source verse with added harmonies 00:33 - 00:47 - Source Chorus with variation of introduction's motif accompanying (brass synth) 00:47 - 00:53 - Source introduction section B on Rhythm guitar 00:53 - 01:05 - Variation/Original Verse 01:05 - 01:19 - Variation/Original Chorus 01:19 - 01:45 - Variation/Original breakdown section. Uses motif from the source's introduction section A 01:45 - 02:21 - Original solo section based off (uses same chords) the source's lead to the solo section. 02:21 - 02:27 - Source's introduction section B 02:27 - 02:40 - Variation/Original Verse section 02:40 - End - Variation/Original Chorus with Source's chorus as counter-melody Source: Remix: I'm not sure there's really much else to say. The direction with this track is to go for a kinda upgraded 80's vibe (hence the fake brass synths). I think I've addressed the judges issues with the track ie: too much repetition, too much reverb, performance timing and arrangement focus.
  21. Did some more mixing. Biggest changes are the increase in tempo and change of key. Still not happy with the drum writing but I'll change that when I can be bothered. Remix:
  22. Got some jazzy harmonies in parts goin' on. For genre though....I'd call it....Calum?
  23. Sounds like a NES game tune to me. Only thing that really stands out as not being quite right is the sound you're using for the bass drum. Can't decide whether its the timbre though or how its mixed. I'm no expert but yeah, not bad stuff!
