  1. I always thought this was a solid track and you're definitely right BONKERS. Doing a track that has been covered so much makes it that much harder to appeal and keep fresh. In honesty, this was fantastically done. A lot of interest and creativity are present here with production that is fab. You may feel as though you could do improve on this, but a year down the line its still sounding great. Its great to see this posted on OCR and look forward to hearing more of your stuff
  2. Welcome to the forums. Erm, yeah the drums are too pushed back and thin. Overcompressed probably and just need the right EQ. The guitars are a bit too muddy and could do with a bit of cutting in the mids. The bass is fine, but could perhaps be spiced up a bit with how its written/programmed. Overall the balance needs a bit of attention. Either bring the guitars down in volume to match the drums and bring the whole track up in volume or bring up the volume of the drums. The mix overall could use some EQ to brighten things up and a lil' reverb splashed on the drums would be a nice addition. The ending is really cool. You can get some nice seperation of the lead guitar by adding more reverb. The panning is all a bit narrow and mono in feel. If you can introduce some more parts. Whether they be synths or guitar, it could just get a bit more excitement going and interest. Overall, this is a really great start. The production does need some attention but I think you can get a bit more going arrangement-wise. Have some counter-melodies going or harmonies on lead lines. Seriously, keep on refining this as with some more polish it'll be awesome
  3. Well, there went an hour of my life. This has to be the craziest most amazing game I've played in a while.
  4. Marking as mod-review. This is now in a state in which I would consider submitting to the panel: Remix: http://soundcloud.com/lidawg/itsutsu-no-chikara-area-a Source: Thank you Edit: Altered rhythm guitar levels and removed compression from synth brass.
  5. Sounds great. Love the energy. I don't know the original (a link to the original would help with giving feedback) The most immediate issues to me is the compression. There's so much ducking and its just destroying your mix. A bit of cleaning up with some EQ and perhaps tightening up the bass a bit more EQ-wise. It sounds a little too flumpy. The rhythms need some taming with EQ and balance. Have you recorded the left and right twice or just copied and hard panned? If you haven't that would help. I like the drum writing a lot, the synths are well-suited. You just need to clean up the mix a bit with some EQ and sort out the (over)compression. The solo is actually good as it fits and isn't just wankery. Just tighten it up and refine some of the licks a little bit. Overall I like it and think that this has potential to be supremely awesome, but just needs to more polish and love. Hope that helps and by no means is the feedback I give gospel
  6. Damn, this is sweet! Great vibe that definitely has that 80's feel but just kinda updates it somewhat. Love the arrangement and the sound design. Very catchy and "rad"!
  7. So, again I'm revisiting an old unsubmitted mix. I thought I'd give this one a once over and see how it turned out. Mostly, its just production that's been altered. I could reprogramme the drums, but if I don't have to I really don't want to. In the meantime, I've layered them with a couple of more suitable samples. Some guitar parts have been re-recorded but the arrangement is essentially the same. I do intend on altering the drums at the end as they just don't work. Link: Removed
  8. - Drumwork: I think is great. Fits the style nicely. The production is absolutely fine on them just..........feels like they need a bit more body, especially the snare. The balance I think is fine its just getting abit more low-end of the snare. At 1:41, the gentler style suits but still same prob (imo) with the lack of body on the snare. Panning the cymbals and upper percussion a bit wider could add a bit more in the way of width and space. -Arrangement: I think its great. Sometimes I feel like sections could settle for a little longer they do. Its down to the drum beats used, as there are a lot of changeups but that's ultimately a good thing and personal taste. I love that melody at 3:07 but it definitely needs a more climatic/definite finish. The melody is gorgeous and arranged well, so why not do that typical emotive pop counter-melody or highlight some phrases of it with some new harmonies. The bell-lead at 3:17ish is a little too weak, I reckon it can still be gentle without being lost in the background. All opinion though so take with a pinch of salt. -Transition: Listened to this without knowing where it was and didn't hear of feel anything awkward. Flows really nicely and gives a great feel. So yeah, see what the mods say and hope that helps you some.
  9. Sounds pretty good. On my laptop atm so can't give anything detailed but the start is great. The amount of reverb would be fine if it stayed with the initial texture but as more instruments come in, it gets a bit too much. You can still have that big auditorium feeling without having everything heavily reverbed, just a choice few instruments. The sound choices are nice but the strings really let it down. They're far too wooden and harsh against the softer textures you've already created. Tweak the reverb a tad and alter the strings and you got a crackin' remix on you hands. You perhaps need to get some harmonic variation going towards the end as it gets a tad repetitive but regardless, nice stuff, so keep it up
  10. Thanks again guys. I've also tweaked the snare as, yeah, it was weak-sauce. If I get chance I'll upload the revised version
  11. This is very good! I'm really enjoying the production style. The sound design and vibe is very nice. With the drums.......I suppose they could have a bit more body and oomph but they're fine in the context of the arrangement/mix. Overall, the mix does feel a bit narrow to me. Could do with a bit more width and seperation of the instruments throughout. I think the bass bit at 2:30 could grow/crescendo a bit more than it does. Also in that section perhaps play with some of the panning. Get some automation going. With the ending, I feel as though you could perhaps start dropping instruments out a bit sooner. Gradually take instruments away until there's one or nothing left. I think it would create a bit more interest than there currently is. Overall this is really great. Creative and engaging but also soothing
  12. Thanks a lot guys for the input I'm always apprehensive about using acoustic guitar because mine is just so crap. However........I was hoping to get your input on this: http://soundcloud.com/draft-arrangements/data-flux-acoustic-1 The only thing that has changed is the intro. I've recorded some acousitc as you suggested. Feedback and thoughts appreciated. Edit: Two guitar parts as requested. The harmony was a bit awkward to come up with but I think it works.......kinda lol
  13. Hey bud, yeah. I've submitted it, but I'd still appreciate feedback if you have any http://soundcloud.com/lidawg/data-flux
  14. http://soundcloud.com/draft-arrangements/memory-wip-4 Added a contrasting middle section and tweaked some stuffs. Feedback on whether it works would be uber cool. I uploaded everything, but after the 3:00 mins mark is no way near finished. Its just the skeleton of the structure. The arrangment isn't finished (I know, I lied) but its to give an idea of where the mix is going. I think I'll give this one a break for a while as I just can't get it finished. Keep getting a block with it, but thoughts on it are always welcome. There's a fair amount of refinement that needs to be done on it.
  15. I loves the glitchy stuff I does. The sound design is wicked and the way the arrangement is constructed is great. Never been able to get my head around glitching. It sounds so slick but I just can't do it haha. The production is great, I have no complaints but there does seem to be a lack of ooph and volume to the bass end of the mix. Its probably personal preference, but I think it could give more solid foundation than there currently is. Just feels like there's a bit of a bass shaped hole. Anywho, its great to listen to, lots of complexity and intracate lines to keep interest. Really enjoyable bud
  16. Woo, another year and time to celebrate! Happy birthday guys. I hope you have a great time. I'll let Mirbz provide the cake
  17. Oh wow, lots of feedback. Great!!! Well.......I haven't had time to do full update but I thought I'd post another revision. There's some new parts in there and I've just cleaned up the mix and backed off of the limiting. It was pushed just a little too much. The final section has been omitted for the time being whilst I work it in a bit better. Remix: http://soundcloud.com/draft-arrangements/memory-wip-3 Haha, maybe but I'm not sure how I'd fit it in. I think I'll play it safe for the moment as at least with Silent Rain I can hear how it'll fit I did originally think of including Silent Rain, but seriously, I nearly always do slow/quiet intros and build them into the main thing. Trying to mix it up a little bit so I don't bore myself haha. I think I will concede though on putting it elsewhere in the mix. Thanks for the suggestion Mirby as its given me some good ideas. Haha, really glad that you like it Looking forward to hear what you have to say on it! Yeah, that section is meant to be like a segway back to finishing but haven't completed it or decided what kind of lead/solo is gonna go over it. Your suggestion of some more variation with the dynamics......yeah...between you and Mirby you've given me an idea I'll work on that and hopefully the next update will be a complete arrangement that just needs a few production tweaks. Thanks so much guys for the feedback and for listening!!! <3 you all!
  18. Haha, thank you so much Phonetic for the kind words. Its nice to know I pleasantly suprised you. Also thanks Dan. The drums in the last version were just my typical, looped, one-track draft drums but definitely. Need some more excitement in there. I've been taking my time over this as I'm trying to get it just right instead of just seeing how it turns out. The arrangement isn't quite complete, nor are the synthesizers and chiptunes. Still not 100% on my sound design but again, feedback is appreciated Remix: http://soundcloud.com/draft-arrangements/memory-draft-2
  19. Sounds really good. I clicked on your Cammy Theme video and thought it was really great too. Would be nice to see a video of you guys playing this stuff live
  20. Well it doesn't matter much, but I voted a while back for you but forgot to post as such haha. Glad to see you're doing well and best of luck for tomorrow!
  21. My god!!! A Silver Surfer remix and its SOOO awesome. Fab stuff. I'm gonna be listening to this one for a long long time!
  22. Aw Kyle, you're like a living VGM remix encyclopedia. So many posts with people saying there are no remixes of a game and then BAM! You give 'em a link or 10
