  1. It might be that as you were mixing, your ears adjusted to find a certain range of notes easier, assuming you were spending all night EQing. As such, when you are constantly trying to listen for the bass voice, your ears will center in and focus on that, and be able to ignore the melody or other harmonies to a degree. And when you wake up, your ears are now unfocused and your work is pretty much adjusted only for someone who specifically wants to hear that bass part in the right volume.
  2. Drums need a stronger presence, with more personality. Also, not sure if the sound you're going for is orchestral or technomanga, but that occasional sizzle from the main melody is taking me out of the feeling everything else is putting me in. Strings have a bit too much attack, if the goal was to interpret a real life string ensemble, everyone is playing with exaggerated crescendos everywhere. Arrangement sort of mimics the original too closely, with similar instruments and little variations to the main melody or chord progression.
  3. Might be echoing what other people said, but here goes from beginning to end. Too much reverb all around. Most noticeably on the cymbals. Guitar could be turned down. A bit loud, the piano has little to no presence do to the guitar and the reverb. The guitar solo transition was beautiful holy shit. Also loving the bridge after the solo, fits the big band/swing style. Overall, I'd just say work on mixing with the sound spectrum. Everything's placement in the soundspace is a little extreme. Sounds like one instrument is played down a wide hallway while another is right in front of me real close, it needs to feel like a band is playing this in the same 15 foot area. PS The bass is real cool, nice volume and good presence, don't do anything to that. I like it.
  4. Watching this movie get made is almost cringe-worthy. I think it will try to cash-in on the Avengers "superheroes meet and they fight but then they fight something else and everything is better." Like, I know that's already a popular structure, but we know why they'd use it right now. Batman and Superman are both fantastic heroes, and they can both be told in great stories. This just feels like it doesn't need to happen, but it'll happen all the same. PS Frank Miller hahahahaha
  5. I've got a Shure SM57 with an M-Audio Pre MKII, and it's sounded absolutely horrible. It picks up too much room noise and blasts mids through the roof, and I've tried EQing the tracks I record but it never works. Does the Fast Track really make that big a difference?
  6. I know I know I know but I just don't have a good mic :c I'd send in an audition if I could.
  7. Jigglypuff isn't leaving because of Fairy-type, but we may have fewer characters this time around.
  8. The armor is his skin, because he's Master Chief and he is cool and can't die (except when he does).
  9. On a similar note, I shook a tree and a folk guitar fell out I know K.K. is a DJ now but I think he should at least sell his old equipment, I already had one.
  10. The image works for E3, where Nintendo's just doing their thing, not even doing a conference (i.e. the car) and when Microsoft is looming with a new next-gen super console (hehe) to jump on Nintendos weaknesses, Sony blindsides them, with, I'd say, the force of a speeding car, and Nintendo gets out unscathed. But for the console race in general, it doesn't make much sense.
  11. Fairly certain the Villager will be similar to Olimar in response. It's cool to know he's a character, but he'll be hard to learn and infrequently used outside of random selection. That said, all of these characters rock! Can't wait for more reveals in the next months.
  12. My argument for any controversy over video games ever, thank you.
  13. When I signed up for OCRemix I was playing Sonic CD and Palmtree Panic had my favorite music of the game, and so I thought of a good alternative to that, since I thought the word "panic" was a fun word, and my friends tell me my taste in music (certain parts of ska, punk, EDM, and synth rock) is "anything fun."
  14. I use LSDj because I am more knowledgeable in how it works compared to any VSTs in FL Studio. That said, I can only use 4 channels, one limited to static noise, so there are pluses and minuses. Learning LSDj was a huge experience and it took me a couple years to get how to make something sound okay, but once you learn it, it's pretty good and low maintenance. edit: FamiTracker is the same deal but has a few different rules.
  15. I write a drum pattern for a part, and usually two or three variations on it, to make it seem more humanized, so, say I have 6 patterns for pars of the song, I end up having like 20. I usually try to syncopate with the rhythm or the bass, and I make sure to only allow three instruments per hit; one on kick, two for the sticks. No more than that, because that isn't real sounding. I've recently started using AddictiveDrums and having it all in one instrument-type rocks.
  16. Story Time: So, many summers ago, my friend came from West Virginia to Maryland for a week and he was all about achievements. He also had an XBox 360, which I didn't. Sonic 06 just came out. I was amazed, it looked so much better than Sonic Heroes, and I loved that game. I loved all Sonic games (didn't like that Sonic X show in the slightest, though). I coerced him into renting it from Blockbuster. He looked it up and saw it only had four achievements, and they were some small number each. He asked me how long it would take to get them, and I said "it's a Sonic game, it won't be long." Dear god, was I wrong. We spent the better part of the week playing it, taking breaks for Halo 2 and going to the beach, but we played this thing. After watching the Pokecapn Let's Play, I discovered we played through about 1/2 of the Sonic campaign. ONLY the Sonic campaign. I earned him no achievements and caused days of pain just TRYING to beat a level. I refused to believe the game was bad. Then I played Sonic Unleashed's day levels and realized how a Sonic game SHOULD play. I was so disappointed with myself and I still am. In suffice, I sorta liked the music. Nothing brilliant, but it's there and it doesn't offend (except when they stole Flashman's theme).
  17. A professional documentarian should be able to present all evidence on the table and explain why their inevitable bias is right with their reasons. Anita just sorta shoves us into her argument with no real regard for possible arguments (on one occasion she brought up an argument and immediately threw the word patriarchy as a response, with no real back-up) or conflicting evidence (many caught her on the Dinosaur Planet accusation, which could almost/probably be counted as lying to the audience). Now, if this video were made with the purpose of urging us to do something about the problem, this is the correct approach, but if this is informative, as the videos had been advertised in the Kickstarter, they should not work to express a personal opinion, but a public awareness, even if that includes the aforementioned inevitable bias. If the video/series was named "An Opinion Piece on Damsels In Distress," this could all be avoided. However, as an informative video meant to define Damsels In Distress in relation to Women in Video Games, Anita fell flat. PS, No documentary is made unbiased. I'd argue that anyone with a basic understanding of the concept of either video games or women could form a bias, regardless how uneducated. Learning only strengthens bias.
  18. Hell House, a... house-type enemy early on in FF7. I think FF7 is the pinnacle of accidentally looking stupid. As for the Mother series, well, this is their job. It goes on. PS Earthbound has dinos too.
  19. Don't EQ past 3 decibels, 6 at most. It seems obvious now, but last year it didn't.
