PC specs can be better than consoles but that doesn't necessarily make them better for playing games. Consoles have all their hardware built to play games so specs aren't the most important thing. The launch line-up is fine. I mean, its not like you'll own your console for only 3 months. Games will come out for 5-6 years... Not having 100 amazing games out right now is natural and nobody plays that many games that fast (and if someone does... better get a new hobby!). The funny thing will be when Microsoft and Sony start using the tablet technology and all the people that bash the Wii U will love it.

Mega Man X: The Grand Maverick Remix Battle 2012
jnWake replied to DarkeSword's topic in Competitions
I haven't posted reviews for this round, so here I go! Volt Catfish vs. Magna Centipede: - Benjamin Briggs: Nice use of Catfish's theme at the beggining. Use of Centipede is similar to your previous entry. I like the rhytm at 2:54, but the transition at 2:00 is a bit weak. - Prophecy: Nice intro, using Centipede's theme. Voice in the second riff is cool (chord progression is from Centipede?). Use of Catfish's intro theme is a bit tricky on the 1:30 section. The song is very good, but unless I'm missing something, seems very unbalanced in source usage. Blast Hornet vs. Frost Walrus: - Blackpanther: I'm not very familiar with the themes used here (Hornet is very forgettable, but you used it well), so I may miss some source references. Bass is very low... I like the mood of the mix, pretty chill. Very short though. Blizzard Wolfang vs. Shieldner Shieldon: - Mr. L: Song is a bit quiet. I like the happy version of Wolfang's theme at the beggining! Strings playing Shieldon's theme is a nice touch too. This song would fit on a castle or something very royal-esque. Nice use of both sources. You may have used too much reverb for the piano sound though. I feel the mix could use a bit more variation, since it drags a bit. Piano being the lead all the time becomes a bit tiring. - Phonetic Hero: The sample used at the beggining is very haunting, nice. Feels zerg-like. Funny how both of you used the same sections of both themes to begin your (very different) songs! The mix takes a nice turn at 1:20. Drums could have been more intense at 2:40. Overdrive Ostrich vs. Crystal Snail: - Cash and Change: Man, the dissonance kills me. I like how you moved to Snail's theme on 0:30, but there was still a dissonant feel there. I guess it is a matter of taste, but all that section annoyed me. Section beggining at 1:20 is a different thing. Pretty enjoyable. I'm not sure what source you were using there though lol. Overall, nice but really change the bass. I still have to decide my votes, but writing these reviews (or notes lol) really helped me! -

We need more trashtalk. My mix is progressing nicely. It is similar in style to my previous entry, but it is longer and slower... I can't think of a name for it though -

Just noticed the dates are wrong on the first post. Saturday is 29 and Sunday is 30, not 28 and 29... Hope nobody got confused by that. -

Exactly... I'm trying to use the parts that I didn't highlight on my previous entry, but it's hard. Especially because Wire Sponge has like 2 real melodies in its song. -
Okami Wii did have the straight line button so it isn't that terrible. The only time the controls sucked are in the fashion sidequest.

Wow, mixing Chill Penguin and Wire Sponge is harder than I expected. And trying to make Sponge's theme sound different than on my previous remix is hard too! -

A shame that there were 2 dropouts this round. Concerning this week: I'll break your Nuts, Sir. My song will be so Chill that your Wireless internet will feel Spongy... Penguin. -

I guess you could assume any of those But yeah, I meant muddy lol. Oh, I don't have Kontakt (only the demo version), but I suspected that was what you were using. Thanks! -

The lead instrument in the climax section (2:35 onwards) is a bit loud IMO. I think it has too much reverb/delay or something, making that section sound slightly moody. The section beggining at 3:02 is close to clipping I believe. Otherwise, this climax is a nice addition, but take another look at that lead. EDIT: Semi off-topic question, where do you get most of your sounds? You have some nice ones. -

It's the intro that makes your song so funky. -

I really like this. I don't have any problem with the long build-up at the intro. It is very atmospheric and fitting IMO. I don't really like the square-ish sound that enters at 0:55 though, it kind of kills the mood. Try to make it sound more haunting, like all the rest of the instruments. I love when the pad enters at 1:32, very nice. The piano-ish sound is a bit dry though, and the repeating notes sound a bit dull. The song progresses nicely after that, lovely acoustic guitar. At 2:30 there's another dry sound playing the repeated notes... Overall, very very nice sounding. I think you managed to make every instrument listenable and that's pretty cool. My only issue with the mix, and it may be completely my fault, is that I can't recognize the source here... -

Reviews now! Magma Dragoon vs. Storm Owl: - Yami's track uses the sources clearly, even if they don't seem to be the "meat" of the song. I'm not sure the melody at 2:04 really fits the bass notes. The song lacks something like percussion that keeps you interested, and it becomes stale pretty quickly. - Hakstok's track is like the complete opposite, with some rocky vibe right away. My biggest complaint is that the song is a tad short. Still, it feels like the more developed and polished of the two songs. Infinity Mijinion vs. Wire Sponge: - Zerothemaster's is a bit strange compared to what I usually listen to. Intro is a bit techno-ish but after the Mijinion theme disappears, the song enters into a weird phase that, to me, doesn't make that much sense. I'm not really a fan of the synth used with the weird effect it has. Sources are pretty clearly used though. Best part is the ending imo, and the middle section that has no relationship to the sources is nice too. - Commenting on my song would be a bit odd, but I can provide a breakdown: 0:00-0:32 is Mijinion's intro theme. From 0:32 to 1:06 you can hear Sponge's "B theme" alongside Mijinion's "B theme". 1:06 to 1:27 is Sponge's "C theme". 1:06 to 1:51 mixes many themes: Mijinion's intro chord progression, the piano makes chords based on Sponge's "B theme", the violin plays Mijinion's "C theme" and the section ends with a nod to Sponge's "B theme". 1:51 to 2:06 is Mijinion's "D theme" (guitar solo) with Sponge's B theme on the piano. 2:07 to 2:23 is the continuation of Mijinion's guitar solo and Sponge's C theme on piano. 2:23 to 2:53 is a combination of Mijinion's B theme and Sponge's "E theme" chord progression. The synth solo is also based on Sponge's "E theme". 2:54 to 3:08 has Sponge's B theme on guitar and the outro is Mijinion's theme on the synth. I'm not sure how the voting is approached when your song is involved so I guess I'll wait until Zero votes! Sting Chameleon vs. Bubble Crab: - Theory of N's song is probably my favorite from the round. Super funky, clean and uses both sources nicely. - Ectogemia's song is also very interesting. I think this could have beaten almost any opposition, but N's song is just too damn groovy. However, I'm not a fan of the death metal drums you use in some sections, they just don't fit at all. I love the synth sound you used at the solo near 2:00, it's pretty cool. Spike Rosered vs. Toxic Seahorse: - Trism's entry is a massive WIP. A very interesting one, but also pretty incomplete. - ProjectSpam's song, on the other hand, is more developed. I'm not a big fan of the bass used, but it creates a watery mood. The 1:07 section feels like from an old PC game I'm not that familiar with the sources of this duel and I have a bit of trouble hearing them in this mix. Slash Beast vs. Blaze Heatnix: - Amphibious' track is very cool. It captures Slash Beast's mood completely. Its only drawback is the length, and maybe that Blaze Heatnix's theme is used a lot less than Slash Beast's one. - Gario's track does a better job at using both sources. I'm not that fond of some synths (like the one that plays at the intro) though. Still, the arrangement is pretty solid and clean sounding. Armored Armadillo vs. Chill Penguin: - pixelwave's track is groovy. I like how you used Armadillo's theme. Like others have said, the song is too quiet. Drums drown the rest of the instruments too. Regarding source usage, it's fine, even though I missed more instrumentation. - Sir_NuTs' begins with a clear nod to Penguin. The Armadillo "licks" are interesting. The song is a bit loud, like others have pointed out. Armadillo takes a while to really kick in into the arrangement, but it fits nicely. This song is nice but I'd like it if you made more combinations between the themes. Flame Mammoth vs. Crush Crawfish: - Metal Man's track lives up to the remixer's name! Nice guitar work, even if the mixing is a bit quiet. The drums are a letdown though, since they are just double bassdrum and snare all the time, and actually don't feel very metal-ish. My favorite part is 1:43, since it sounds much cleaner with better drums and stuff. Also, I miss more Crawfish. - SilvernixSP's is very different. The sounds at the beggining remind me of the ones used by ProjectSpam. Many sections are off-key, which sounds pretty bad. The section at 1:07 with Flame Mammoth's theme leads to better sections, with the song sounding quite good. The combination of Crawfish and Mammoth themes is very sloppy, they don't fit well at all. Overall, there's a feeling of emptiness. Storm Eagle vs. Spark Mandrill: - Many X1 themes on this round. The Rexasaurous's mix is quite cool, features both sources nicely. -

Thanks for the comments Theory of N and SuperiorX! I think I'll try to submit my track, but to get a better sounding version I'd need some "help". Anybody that plays Electric Guitar, Bass and/or Acoustic Guitar and wants to record for my song, contact me! Violin players are welcome too but that isn't as necessary as the other instruments. -

I'll post "detailed" feedback on the songs tomorrow, but on first listen most are very cool! I especially loved Theory of N's take on Sting Chameleon, so funky! Also Metal Man's song was pretty nice. Hope the people that did reviews of the other tracks before mine was included in the .ZIP review mine -

Uh... I also sent mine on Friday, and I have an unconfirmed recepit too (like Hakstok). I can't take a screenshot because I'm on a super slow internet, but I hope Darke checks his inbox again. I don't want to be DQ'ed like this. Should I post the link here or just wait until Darke says something? -

wip Bomberman 64 boss battle Metal Cover (lulz)
jnWake replied to SonicThHedgog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Bomberman 64 was such a cool game... The drums are the main issue, as everybody pointed out. Other than that, the strings are a bit quiet, and could use a more edgy sound (they sound like they came from Smash Bros 64). Besides from that, cool mix from an amazing game!
