  1. Not bad. I understand that its a medley, but I'd recommend a bit more on the arrangement end. Perhaps combining themes in places or something. There's nothing wrong with going from song to song, but I think you'd benefit from fusing pieces together. Nonetheless, I like where this is going. Keep working on it and see where you get!
  2. I was going to tell you the same thing the lawyer told them, so let me just expound briefly. Basically, when a person in a band contributes to the final product, he can't copyright his own unique individual performance in a given track or song. However, because of his contribution, he is entitled to any royalties that are due to him as a result of his contribution (presumably 1/4 the total royalties of the band as a whole on the CD or any songs released that he contributed to). Now the thing about his use of their logo. He can use it for comment/criticism, and can make any *true* statements he wants. He cannot make slanderous statements. Your friends should probably just settle, because as college students, the litigation will probably be pretty costly. [note: this is in no way to be construed as legal advice]
  3. What was up with last night's episode? The whole pinewood derby idea, though it was already done (I think by the Simpsons), would really have worked as a good, strong 'A' story, and maybe a good Cartman story could have been a 'B' story, but the alien thing was ... weird. And it wasn't very funny. Extremely disappointing for a Randy episode.

    JRPGs

For 'modern' JRPGs (read: 3D), go with FFX, Dragon Quest VIII, basically any of the SMT games, and either of the Tales games (Tales of the Abyss probably trumps Tales of Legendia, but both were good). Wild Arms are also fun games. For classic JRPGs (read: SNES-PS1 style), check out Atelier Iris 1-3, Ar Tonelico 1-2, and Mana Khemia 1 (2 comes out in June). Odin Sphere is another great choice, though it isn't technically a JRPG in the normal sense. Another great game in general, though it doesn't truly fit into either of these categories, is Okami.
  5. According to Kanye West's blog, he was at the Cheesecake Factory last week and the manager walked over to him and handed him a plate of fish sticks.
  6. Assuming you haven't hung yourself yet, I'd like to point out that from a physics perspective, you're absolutely right (I assume; never took physics in high school or college). My notion of energy transfer in my quote was not physics-based, though. Using your example, if you punch me in the face (which we'll use as a substitute for a Kamehameha because we're talking about reality), you're right that it would transfer energy, but your punch would not put energy into my body in such a manner that it would have a healing effect on me. The same applies to a Kamehameha: it's a long-distance punch using something other than a fist, and it does transfer "energy," but it does not "energize" the target. Wow. I'm so ashamed to be arguing this. You want to get together and have a hanging party?
  7. It's funny you brought those three up. My friends and I were kind of indifferent on Rossum's performance, but we actually all enjoyed Marsters' and Chow Yun Fat's performances. Marsters in particular needed more screen time, as I felt that a more developed version of his portrayal of Piccolo could have been really good.
  8. See, here's the problem I had with the Kamehameha part. Goku had absolutely no reason to jump toward and kind of fly at Piccolo when he used it. Used properly, the Kamehameha is a long-distance projectile attack (unless it's used for a close-range kill as it was against Cell). The Kamehameha gave me another issue: Roshi uses it to transfer life energy to Goku. Effectively, he gives Goku a close-range Kamehameha to either his face or chest when he's nearly dead ... and it helps him. In any other Dragonball product, that Kamehameha would have killed Goku, not helped him. But DB:E's logic works differently I guess. That's my ultimate problem with the movie (besides the horrid script and terrible acting). If you're going to make a movie based on a manga, that doesn't mean that the basic rules of the original manga don't apply. An offensive weapon, which is effectively what the Kamehameha is, is not supposed to be used as a curative or an energy transfer. One other complaint: the Dragon. A) Where was the rest of it? Why didn't it talk? (actually, that's probably a good thing)
  9. I saw it last night. Maybe I can't divorce my 12+ years of fandom from the final product, but it was so bad it's bad. Anyone else see DB:E?
  10. After several failed attempts to find a copy during high school, I played it via an emulator. I absolutely loved it. I remember going out and picking up the Final Fantasy Chronicles guide because it had the Chrono Trigger section in it. I would echo what others have said: graphics were great for the time, storyline was and is enjoyable, and music... oh that music. Magnificent. The point where I really felt like I loved the game was actually the first time I heard the Corridors of Time song play when I stepped out of the teleporter on the floating islands. Beautiful, and that image will forever be ingrained in my mind.
  11. I think one thing that sets "hardcore gamers" apart from other gamers is a general willingness to play games regardless of aesthetics. The big thing a hardcore gamer focuses on is gameplay. It has to be fun, intuitive, and logical. From my years of working at a game store, I know a lot of customers who come in and talk about this game or that game and say that it looks good. Generally, these people mean exactly what they say: it LOOKS good, e.g. it is visually pleasing. Meanwhile, a hardcore gamer will make the same comment about Mega Man 9, but mean something totally different. Also, though it isn't a universal truth, I think most hardcore gamers tend to be associated with RPGs.
  12. Couple of personal favorites, though some of these have been recommended already: Tales of the Abyss Persona 4 (I didn't care for 3 much, but 4 was ridiculously addictive - 80 hours) Kingdom Hearts I and II Metal Gear Solid Triple Pack (1-3) Dragon Quest VIII Okami GTA Vice City If you like traditional J-RPGs (SNES-PS1 era), check out the Atelier Iris series, particularly 1 and 2. Also, for a Zelda-style game (besides Okami), check out Beyond Good and Evil (this may have come out on the XBox, but I know it was definitely GCN and PS2 as well).
  13. It's already been pointed out, but this is the GameBoy Color marketing all over again. I think I used by GBC for about 2 and a half years before getting the GBA (Dec. 98 - June 2001), so that may give us some indication of the anticipated lifespan of the DSi. But anyway, back to your point, I don't remember many GBC exclusives until a year or so after the system had been out, so you don't have to get the DSi for a while. Until we learn that some big title is a DSi download exclusive or something (I'm kind of worried about a possible Mega Man 10 being a DSi game instead of a Wii game).
  14. I'll buy a DSi when DSi exclusives start releasing. My only real gaming anymore is on the DS, but I have absolutely no complaints about my DS Lite, and until I do, I have no desire to upgrade. As long as I can play Dragon Quest IX this year, I'll be satisfied.
  15. I just hope to God that I can use the d-pad to make Link walk in this one. I hated Phantom Hourglass for two reasons: the repetitive and overly-long dungeon that you had to keep going back to was annoying, and the touch-controlled walking annoyed the hell out of me (which, actually, is why I hated Dragon Ball Origins). If you're going to put it in, fine, but let the player decide whether he wantes to play every part of the game with the touch controls.
  16. I have had an absolutely miserable day thus far. The end of this video entirely made up for 6 hours and counting of misery.
  17. Okay, if you get a chance, definitely do the whole soundtrack. Someone else out there is working on an 8-bit version of the X soundtracks (they already did X1 and 2), and this would fit in nicely with that collection. Only problem I have with this is that it probably sounds better than an actual version of the soundtrack would sound on the Genesis.
  18. GameStops stopped taking PC games a few years ago, and basically stopped selling them at about the same time. Largely this was due to CD key issues. This has actually invaded some console games. FFXI, for instance, can't (or at least couldn't last I checked) be traded in because of the CD key and the whole online thing. But for PC games, this extends way beyond MMOs because a lot of games have to be registered by the CD key or serial number and it could cause problems. Or at least that was the explanation. I think a better one is that used PC wasn't very profitable and it was very costly when people walked in with a box of old Windows 98 software in 2003-04, just to turn around and sell it for $0.99 in 2005.
  19. Just wanted to say great work to all of those involved in this project. This is almost four hours of pure bliss, and it's great to hear ReMixes from a generally under-appreciated series like Tales. Great work!
  20. I have waited for something like this since I first played ToS in 2004. Fatalize is my absolute favorite battle track in the Tales series (my favorite RPG series), and this ReMix does it justice. More than I could have hoped for; excellent work!
  21. This is amazing. Come up with a good ending and submit it!
  22. This probably will be pretty good. I wouldn't mind some songs if they are generally catchy and enjoyable. I think the thing Disney really needs to be careful about is the writing. They're catering to an audience of "everyone," which is extremely difficult to pull off. Pre-K kids up to grandparents are probably going to see this movie, and it's very hard to write a movie that appeals to (as an example) the college age group at the same time as it appeals to kids. I think the big thing is to not dumb it down with immature humor. And, since we're on a music site, an epic score. Gotta have that epic score. So does anyone here think that this will get other companies to create hand-drawn animation as well?
  23. Sonic just needs to pull a Mega Man 9. It's wasting its resources on projects like this (well, okay, the soundtrack does sound awesome). Sonic Team need to put some people on Sonic the Hedghog 4 for the 3 download services. Give us some good level design, take away the extra characters that no one cares about, and crank the game's speed. The irony is that it probably costs more to do what they're doing now than it would to make a *proper* entry in the Sonic franchise.
