  1. Pretty sure they had rich patrons that commissioned stuff as needed. They certainly didn't write so many dances because of their love of busting moves.
  2. It's older code, sir, but it checks out.
  3. Hm, weird. Try this. Basically Iomega has a line of externals by the name of "eGo" that apparently feature some sort of "DropGuard" technology. Although on second glance, the biggest one they have is 320GB for $200 (pricey to say the least). They have desktop models that hold 1TB and are more reasonably-priced, but don't promise the same DropGuard technology. Looks like if you don't want to shell out the scrilla, your best option is to look for a rugged enclosure, assuming they exist.

  5. This is a good idea. (Edit: Except that apparently it would block Facebook.) Also congrats! Make some OCR babies for us.
  6. Would you mind shrinking your sig a little? Right now it's taking up approximately half the vertical space on my browser window.
  7. I'm a bit surprised, considering the extra memory is specifically intended to help with higher resolutions. Might need to consider dropping some effects and filters (anti-aliasing in particular will kill your framerate), or going down to 1600x1200 or 1280x1024. That said, if you decide to upgrade, how much would you be willing to part with your old card for?
  8. Mono would make a good Tifa I think actually. I've always imagined Ms. Lockhart to have a light Southern accent.
  9. If you're referring to the buttons and d-pad, those aren't analog. Anyway, I remember the game giving you a fair amount of leeway with the touchscreen, so I never had any problems. It really doesn't take that much time to whip out the stylus from the back. If you're really in a pinch though, you can always use your fingernail (or thumbstrap if you have one).
  10. Double Trouble was decent, worth the $7 at least. Otherwise it's a pretty solid rental.
  11. Solution: don't feel the card. 80C is normal operating temperature under load, which translates to 176F. Yes you could cook an egg with that. BUT since I know you just want an excuse to spend more money just because you can, there are many options for aftermarket GPU coolers. Look on Newegg.
  12. Castlevania is actually a good example of how a new direction for a series can split a fanbase. It turns out there are a significant number who do in fact resent the new Metroidvanias and long for a classic-style platformer, with the announcement of the new Wii Castlevania bringing many of them out of the woodwork. Of course I enjoy both styles of gameplay so it's not an issue for me. However, even so, that doesn't give me much comfort with respect to the new Diablo. This isn't the first time Blizzard has attempted such a transition...I am of course referring to WC3. We've seen first-hand how that transition turned out...while it was an excellent game in terms of story and gameplay, it was still brought down by the awkward models and animations. So you can understand how seeing these very same characteristics in Diablo III does not fill me with hope.

They're as old as the artist says they are!
  14. Speaking of script re-translations, I really hope they re-do Frog's ridiculously bad "olde English" into something that actually resembles Shakespearean speech (or whatever they were going for there). Cyan's dialog is an excellent example of how it should be done.

  16. Well, those games aren't Diablo, and gamers haven't been waiting 7 years for them. So kinda, but also kinda not.
  17. Again, dark palettes *are* appropriate sometimes, despite the blanket complaints by people on the "games are too brown" bandwagon. There are plenty of bright and colorful games out there that you can play instead. But more than the colors, it's the animation that bothers me. Blizzard's been using that same slow, floaty running animation ever since WC3. It looked goofy then, it looks goofy now. Same thing with the gibs. Something just seems so...off...about the way they look and the way they just slowly sink into the ground. I've never played WoW, but there are definitely WC3-isms I'm seeing all over StarCraft II and Diablo III, and it saddens me. WC3 was a fine game for its time and everything, but your next-gen titles shouldn't look like glorified mods.
  18. Hahaha. Actually, I could swear he does have one line in the game to the effect of "Thank you, Marle" or something. If he had a voice, I guess he'd sound like Goku.
  19. Well, it's not so much a matter of how well it compares to current graphics as long as there's some sort of improvement over the original. Even relatively minor stuff like the PS2's texture-smoothing was enough to get a lot of people to play their old favorites over again.
  20. It would probably help if you didn't search for such a specific phrase. My search brought up the Intellivoice games. So I guess this thread is more of a "first time I saw this in a video game"? That's fine with me, it's just that the topic title led me to believe it would involve more concrete evidence.
