  1. yeah I just dropped off a Remix in the Workshop of Lavender Town and was thinking the same thing.
  2. Liontamer, you are truly the Lawful Neutral of the OCR Alignment Grid and Champion of the Upper 50% of source usage, to whom I tip my bandana. So the album SCB for me, was divided up between the OSTs I knew very well and the ones I didn't know, with this track square between the two groups. It felt vaguely familiar ( not just because I struggled to get to level 7 when I would play SMB3), but on my 7th listen or so, I heard how it was present, and how it could have gotten repetitive quickly, but it didn't and more so how each section added a something different, while retaining elements of the original SMB3 track. Its always interesting to see which tracks make their way down the pipeline to the Front-page when an OCR album is released and I have been waiting to see this one pop up. Top Shelf DDRKirby(ISQ) Top Shelf indeed.
  3. Did not even see this, but yes please. Ill look back into it depending on how salvageable it is.
  4. "Then the babysitter saw the hook on the car door, behind the clown statue, cause the hitchhiker had died 20 years ago that night and the calls were coming from inside the HOUSE!!!....oh and also some bullshit about Lavender Town's music...." There....there's my Creepy-pasta Magnum Opus Yeah, I know another lavender town remix, but com'on....Nobody has done it as a Dup-Step version yet.....right? Ok, so not much else to write, bonus points if you can identify the Pokemon calls. Whoo....alright, back to..back to...back upstairs. https://www.dropbox.com/s/yn53bj1la8biyce/lavendar.mp3?dl=0
  5. Soundole Some call it a EWI, others just another midi controller...I call it one of the cooler instruments an individual can pick up. He infrequently posts in the workshop, but if you were one of the chosen who heard that haunting synth sound in Billie Jean and needed more of it in your life, look no further.
  6. Well I finally found an awesome place to hang the drawing KingTiger made for me...Truly, he is King of the Tigers.
  7. If John Oliver has taught me anything, it would be to ask how much is going to go back into OCR? Seems like a good buy for authentic VGM emulations, but I'm still very much on the fence.
  8. Well, If you want to learn how to transcribe VGM...well, start transcribing. However, if you want to Remix VGM , Having a good ear for harmonies, tonality, scales and what-have-you will open up possibilities, but learning the song is a better place to start and for that, get the sheet music or the MIDI and just start learning and once you have the original track down, you can start to modify that parts that fit your vision of what you'd like to create. Knowing even some basic Music Theory will greatly improve your ability to alter the song while staying true to the Remix. If a track is in the Key of G major, well maybe do a solo of your own making in the key of....G major. (while staying true to the remix) Don't discount anything, get the muscle memory down pat and then improvise, edit, imagine and reinterpret.
  9. What the Frick?! Anyone who watched Star Gazers on PBS knew how perfect his music went with the night sky....Damn. I found this video way back...We're losing some pioneers.
  10. So I never commented on this, so mea culpa. So I love this for sure, but more specifically I love that faux guitar...really love it, but yet even more specifically at precisely :38, due to that awesome guitar, I felt the urge to say ....and thats no lie.
  11. Old Thread here, but very important information. So...I love Star Fox, yeah...ok I really love Star Fox (ok most Star Fox...certain Gamecube-y ones, not so much) and as I lack a WiiU I'm stuck with watching play throughs and playing at other people's abodes, that is untill I happened upon an a video on Nintendo's Youtube channel and found an Anime of Starfox and thought "well what's all this then eh, Guv'r" So aside from the fact that I enjoyed the anime ( really enjoyed actually) I found that somethings was vaguely familiar about Fox's Voice...something...OCR-ish...aaaannnndddd WHABAM http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5652038/?ref_=tt_trv_cnn None other than Joe Zieja! I watched the anime again and did a double take................. One of the OCRemixers is now a Nintendo icon...Woooooow!..........Major Congratulations to to Joe Zieja aka XPRTNovice aka Fox-freakin-McCloud!!!
  12. Gotcha, I saw the Alberta, but I just didn't make the connection
  13. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/94174/ says it should be ~$85, with season pass
  14. lolol. you're playing..."Yeah I got this, just stick and move stick and move" then the Tower Knight wipes you off his boot. That game was my 2009-10, too bad it's gotten pushed down the line, compared to DS 1&2 and BB. I felt a strong connection to Contra and Super Ghouls and Ghosts when playing, no hand holding, you die^10 then you finally realize you're NOT going to beat them trying the obvious approach so you have to change you whole mind set with each boss, loved it. I was just looking to make my move on DS3, 80$ not too bad with season pass? DS DLC is worth it, consistently good, from what I've heard.
  15. I've been a wallflower on this thread, and I think it's really a great idea. I read most of the thread and I have a question, is anything other than the ascetics of the tag going to come from this? Will I be able to search using the tags? So if for instance Chill-step is probably too specific to merit it's own tag, but I would search Mood: Chill Genre:Dubstep.
  16. Well Bunch of Johnny Come Latelies I am, to the Undertale party. Well this was done months ago, but I've been dragging my heels and haven't posted anything in the workshop in awhile, so I figured I'll put this up for notes, then consider going back to work on it. I've had a hard time watching the play through with out ruining the game (Full disclosure: I've yet to play it) and the one consistent track that offers no spoilers was this one. I liked how the fights were stop and start-ish ( I think quirky is the overused word to describe it), so I tried to captures that in the track. Thank You for the listen and all feedback is welcome! 17. Wow! Lotta hate for the guy who basically legitimized voice acting and dialogue in video games...well I guess we're each going to have our opinions on the matter, but the long and short of it is Kojima's house, Kojima's rules. However, Haytar was the perfect balance of homage and innovation and looking back, I wouldn't want Snake Plissken in MGS, it would be too obvious of an (Instert-Established-Action-Hero) pitfall that Video Games kept falling into when they were coming in to they're own as a separate medium of art. Haytar has become a pillar of Video Game Voice acting and thus probably should continue in that role. Also this.... Kiefer is just too off-putting. So to sum up, I'll take Guyver over California Badass/Vampires andy day of the week.
  18. I look forward to cursing your names when my Mixes are rejected/criticized ....Seriously, Each of you have given judicious and constructive criticism when I've interacted with each of you. These are just appointments to a venerated position, Great Job Everyone!
  19. YEEEEEESSSSSSSS! This version sounds different from the Soundcloud version I've been accustom to listening to, but in a good way...an 80's kind of way. I remember when I first heard this in the Workshop I was hooked on that hook and the man delivers on all fronts. I feel Sythwave is the sort of musical revival this generation needs, and people like Just Coffee are on the vanguard of the New-New Wave of music, Mon Congrats on the post Just Coffee's! Take note fellow remixers, when you get up in the morning and you want to get that inspiration, all you need is.....Just Coffee
  20. Just chiming in to say, while I agree with the mixing tips above, I like the vintage sound you've got going. Most of the suggestions are how to make it sound more modern, but I feel like you could embrace the the lo-fi vintage elements for something even more interesting. However, the drums definitely need to be featured more prominently and that Tom around 1:28 is rubbing me the wrong way and goes on for a bit too long and the kick (~1:05 and some other points) sounds a little too mechanical and droning. The Bass, Wheres the Bass? I think I hear it, but it should be a little more prominent, and in a twist, Surf Rock it about the reverb except, on the Bass...literally everything else could be drenched in that reverb, except the bass and you'd be set-to-jet. So IMO work on those drums, listen to some Duane Eddie ( though he's more Rockablilly, but still relevant) The Ventures , love that reverb knob ( except on the Bass) and stay away from the Beach Boys...that's a different kind of Surf Rock...the less cool version
  21. Is it possible that VGM is cyclic in nature, perhaps it's strongest asset is not conducive to what others would listen for in a stand alone song? I listen for the blend of the game with the music, If I was interested in only stand alone music to remix ( or just produce), I wouldn't be here. I love the synthesis of two feelings, musical satisfaction and nostalgia, both have requirements that need to be fulfilled, sometimes at the cost of the other, but that's the balancing game we play, isn't it?
  22. I still have no idea what I'm doing, but I hope I have gained at least some musical ability...but before OCR most of my money went into buying video games, consoles and video game related items, now it goes in to loop packs and VST to write remixes of video game music.
  23. Really? No one has commented on this? Mykah this is fresh AF; There's really nothing to criticize, it's a great remix of a great track, I suppose the 3 kinds of people who dislike this hate Electro, Undertale or Life...or some combination of the three. Your ability to blend those samples got me feeling all insecure about my sample use. Either way, this is great and It was cool meeting you back stage, you did a bang-up job during your set. Keep'em coming!
  24. After listening to a vinyl copy of SoR 2 while relaxing in a vintage rocking chair at SteveO's, I've developed a taste for Natural American Spirit cigarettes and Narragansett.....help me
  25. Esperando where/who the frek were you?!? I was trying to expand my PeopléDex, did I meet you and just not make the connection?
