Final Fantasy VII is being remade for PS4
YoshiBlade replied to DarkeSword's topic in General Discussion
I just wanted to pop back in for this. The remake is now going to be episodic, with a "volume of content equal to a full game" So they're looking to cash in on the marque value of FF7 and the nostalgia value FF7 ( both of which has appreciated over the years) which they deserve. Now they will sell many copies, simply because it has FF7 on the box, and rather than try and make a full game at 59.99, they know they can make a significantly more amount doing episodic content of a strong IP. So heres my thoughts, this has Peter Jackson's "Hobbit" written all over it, In order to sell more than an hours worth of gameplay, but still have "volume of content equal to a full game" I have an unpleasant feeling, what we're going to get is exactly what we got with The Hobbit, a hearty story watered down thin and any charm that made FF7's story, characters or mythos good and allowed it to stand strong over the years, will be sucked out simply to glean as much revenue as we are willing to fork over, and for an FF7 remake I would guess it will be a lot. The story is the strongest point of FF7 and this announcement this seems to be The Black Spot for the one aspect of FF7 that has stood the test of time.....So my request is simple Square, abandon this hedonistic delusion and shift your resources to giving a retelling of a story the people want to hear, Chocobo Racing 2 for the PS4. -
Legend of Zelda - Fairy Fountain
YoshiBlade replied to roryglenn1's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Clicked on this one out of curiosity... I really like what you have going here, This is like a sample platter of everything cool that could be done with this track. Vocals, well done effects, clear mixing. I have 3 things that I could point out 1)That acoustic bass seems a bit too loud, it's really pulling me out of the, very immersive atmosphere. 2) Those vocals seem like they could have some work done with them, little reverb, little longer? I don't know, so I'll leave it to your deft hands and sharp ears 3) Most importantly, it's short, too short. These are several great ideas that I have no time to enjoy, because they transition so quickly to a new idea. Great intro, great transition to the main body, nice transition to the vocals, nice choice of instruments and effects but all this happens in ~2 min. That's like being given Steak and lobster, but only 5 minutes to enjoy it. It's a short source, for sure, but you sound like you know what you're doing, so just do what you do, only more in-depth....I'm sure more technical feedback will make its way in to the comments, but that's all I have to offer. Great Job! -
Is everyone planning on doing a show-and-tell of what they received? I'm interested to know what kind of plunder everyone got ( if you're will to share such information )

OCR02767 - Castlevania "Electro Killer 6000"
YoshiBlade replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
A few names come to mind, that have become synonymous with with quality Pixar, Google, Blizzard and Zircon. It's Castlevania, it's Zircon, it OCR...what more do you want? The vocoder even takes the time to explain the game mechanics... -
OCR02659 - Super Mario World "Forrest of Illusion"
YoshiBlade replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Forrest Fire lives up to his name producing hot tracks that tend to burn their own paths, embrace the heat or fight this blaze as this track is sure to inspire a flame war, as to it's place in on the OCR. Clever use of samples and the embrace of more frantic sonic elements all combine to to stretch a :40 track into something more than its individual parts. Confused? Good, if the original track was titled the Forrest of Actuality, I might agree with you that this remix doesn't embrace the theme of the source material, however that not the case here... -
OCR03265 - Super Mario World "Koopa Reaper"
YoshiBlade replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Despite his namesake, bLiNd has his eyes clearly on the prize with this one. There's something about the way bLiNd can wield the bass that causes it to resonate with every atom in the body, the grimy thud blend perfectly with the pumping bass. If this track deals in Kings and over which Kingdom they rule, bLiNd clears has sovereignty over the low end of the equalizer, where here reigns unchallenged and may he reign for 1000 years!!!! -
OCR03238 - Demon's Souls "Abandoned by God"
YoshiBlade replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The Soul's Series tends to consume everything it comes into contact with time, social lives, emotions and it seems that RoeTaka is not immune from the the intrigue and mystic the Soul's series soundtrack, having remixed quite a few tracks from the various games. With such devotion its no wonder S-tier material, such as this, that is produced when you take a talented Remixer, RoeTaka, and combine it with a great soundtrack and spice it up with the sort of insidious devotion this game can instill us with. I'm not one who raves about the more melodramatic remixes, but Sir....your remixes make me want to praises the Sun all over again! -
So this was the mix that made me finally accept Vocals in remix. I implore any individuals out there who still harbor prejudices against Lyrical remixes, to see the error in their way! This mix is perfect as a ensemble live band remix and there exists very to criticize only praise. My only complaint is that the Hot Freaks seem to have gone silent in the past year, lost at sea in a tumultuous ocean that tend to consume live performance bands...but let us hope we spot their sails on the horizon, eventually.

OCR02621 - Kirby Super Star "Don't Hold My Breath"
YoshiBlade replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
So for those in need of a sugar fix look no further than this remix. I wasn't familiar with the source and this remix was my introduction to it so I gave a listen to the original and wow...by slowing down ( which is seems to be the left handed approach to remixing, as opposed to speeding up) the original, this track becomes even sweeter to the ear. If this mix were candy it would be PopRocks all the way with slowed tempo soda fizzle, the sugar coated lead chip synth, the crisp drums that snap and crackle and the boiled carrot orchestral breakdown in the middle...wait not that last one. Either way, great mix Ben! -
This is a Business Remix. It comes in on time, fulfills what it needs to do and doesn't over stay its welcome. This song was written to be remixed as a proper metal track, for future generations, and this Remix fulfills that prophecy quite well. Need I say more?...Yes. I need say one more thing...I've come to love that jaunty little tune that precedes this in game, no love for it? It's doesn't matter, this is some good metal and metal does what metal wants....deal with it

OCR03053 - Mega Man X3, 5 & 2 'Crystal Cipher'
YoshiBlade replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
So this came out back when I was in Florida and I was without internet, so I think I used the last of my phone data to download this...totally worth it. The Voltron style remix collaboration going on here is great, each remixer bringing their particular skill set in, compartmentalized and perfect, like a mini showcase of already well established talent. Seriously those opening chords still send chills down my back, so good. -
OCR01423 - EarthBound "SnowBound"
YoshiBlade replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
So this was 2005 and it sounds as fresh as fallen snow way ahead of its time...all most too far ahead of it's time. Which leaves me with 2 possibilities 1) bLiNd is a time traveler and goes back in time to taking all the great music from the future and sharing it with us a-la Marty Mcfly or 2) He is/was/will continue to be just a really great musician. I think we all know the answer so, thank you for this Remix, from whatever age/dimension you hail from, you magnificent musical maven! -
Original track is a new car, this Remix is that new car smell. One after another, but both equal pleasurable to the senses. I came to this track with no reference point other than a love on the new DKC games. So I listened to the original and the Remix and then the original and the Remix and am now currently listing to the remix....this game is not but a year old, and already someone has created a track that I would expect to hear in the game itself, It's a strange feeling, but a welcome one!

OCR03141 - Final Fantasy VI "The Narshemellow"
YoshiBlade replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Alright hepcats, you hear that teeny tiny vocal clip around :26, that is the linchpin that made this one stick in my mind, when I first heard this. Everything about this track just drips icy cold, smooth, the low light and smokey atmosphere of the chillest jazz club in town, you pick up what I'm putting down chicky baby? I'm now 10% cooler after having listened to this track. -
OCR01760 - Super Mario World "Turning Terrors"
YoshiBlade replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is really just a bump so we can all remember and recognize what an amazing track this is...from 2008, I think I'm going to go ahead and mark this one as "ahead of its time" with fair confidence. Quick edit: This was the track that inspired me to cease my lurking and join up, it holds special meaning to me. -
OCR03263 - Super Mario 3D World "Caravan Bowser"

Electro-Swing! Electro-Swing! Electro-Swing! That opening...I can't help but see the needle drop on one of those old wind up gramophone record players, it just sounds so much like it's spinning, as matter of fact I feel like I'm spinning while I listen to this track and that guitar is the channeled spirit of Django Reinhardt, everything that is old is emulated perfectly and everything that is new is on point! I enjoyed dropping in on Felxstyle's twitch sessions when he was mixing this and I've been waiting for this one....must...resist....urge to...Charleston.... -
Until recently, I never really payed much attention to the under comments/reviews when I listen to the mixes or read the write ups, mostly because I feel like I can't offer anything other than a thumbs up or down, but if you insist!

MAGFest 2016 (Combat your Post-MAG Depression here)
YoshiBlade replied to Arrow's topic in General Discussion
That's good to hear! The offer is open for anyone really, provided the above requirements are understood and met. -
So, this game is apparently taking over the world right now...I guess I'll just accept assimilation and give this one a look ps...you had me at Earthbound

MAGFest 2016 (Combat your Post-MAG Depression here)
YoshiBlade replied to Arrow's topic in General Discussion
2 things: Before I commit to go 1) Are there any group rated passes available? I'll hold out a bit longer, but if anyone is holding an empty slot I've got the money 2) ok......( deep breath).....I am leaving Cleveland and heading to Baltimore you can check the route via Google maps....I can deviate slightly off the path or if you want to come to my location I'd be willing to carpool. If I commit to do this, I'll need a picture of your driver's licenses, I'm offering only transportation, but it would be cool to meet new people...( please be kind and don't murder me) **IMPORTANT** NO DRUGS. NO THIEVERY. NO OUTSTANDING WARRANTS. (Com'on do I really need to list this stuff?) PM me with any further questions. -
If there was ever an artist on here who can put a smile on my face it's worldsbestgrandpa. I know this sounds hokey, but when I hear these remixes I feel like I'm sitting right next to worldsbestgrandpa, in a basement or on a street corner, just listening in with a huge grin on my face. The music just seems so welcoming, it's probably just the nature of the accordion....I really can describe it. I'm just a huge fan of immersive music and I hope worldsbestgrandpa sticks around!!!

So I've noticed that if there is anything that's enjoyed around more than Music and Video Games, it's debating which sparked an idea. Would there be any interest in an Oxford style debating panel at this year's MAG? I suppose the topic could be chosen later, but as a fan of Intelligence Squared I think it would be fun and enlightening to have a civil debate on a topic of our choosing! A topic that could combine a hefty amount of objective fact-finding with persuasive techniques. Nothing too emotionally charged, but nothing too esoteric. The cut off for panel submissions is one week from today, so this thread could be used as a litmus test for any interest. If not, ok, still worth a shot. Thank You for your time! ( I didn't want to explicitly point this out, but Gamergate stuff probably falls under too emotionally charged, where as "Cloud Strife could kick Sephiroth's ass" would be too esoteric)

Nay! Heretics all of them ! Reason is the one true DAW! People love what DAW works for them, but the key is what DAW works for you. And to figure that out, you've got to work with the different DAWs. I enjoy Reason, because it's easy to see exactly where all your routing is going and ,if you're new, it eases you in nicely, but at the same time can be very deep once you know what you're doing. Propellerhead will put you in a headlock with only being able to buy VST through them, but I have yet to run into any VST that I just had to have, but couldn't get through Propellerhead. FL studio seems to be the gold standard, but since you've got a Mac, Image-Line hates you and keeps telling you there will be a Mac release...but...well yeah. If you've got live instruments and you're on a Mac, Logic seems to be the right call, cheap too. But I refer to my earlier statement, to find which DAW works for you, work with each DAW. Don't make any choice in a rush, I thought I'd like Cubase so I tried it for about 1 month then bought it and I'm not a huge fan. Also you're a student so Make sure you checkout those student discounts!!!

Mega Man X: The Sigma Fortress Remix Gauntlet 2015
YoshiBlade replied to DarkeSword's topic in Competitions
I cut my teeth on the RWS and I look forward to getting back into them once we rally enough participants, but the RG is where The Talent flows like a huge river and if your thirsty to improve yourself the RG are awash with the technical info, tips, tricks and all things in between. One of the reason I go to MAG, is to trade beer/food for help improving my remixing skills, because the pool of remixers is large and deep and they are right there in front of me and are usual willing to offer what help they can offer.
