wip "Run & Jump" a Super Mario Bros remix...
Dafydd replied to DJ Nitro°'s topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Drums are pretty weak. Instrumentation is also rather uninteresting as it stays pretty much the same the whole time. If you take out the parts of the mix that are exactly like the original, and the sound effects taken from various Super Mario games, there would be no way of telling this is a mix of a Super Mario Bros theme. OCReMixes are typically all about keeping the melody of a song and changing the chords or the rest of the instruments, the instrumentation itself, the tempo, those things. This mix just takes the original song and adds entirely new sections that have no connection to the original material besides the instrumentation. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but it's not an OCReMix. -
Fixed. 10char

Someone might have said already, but it would have been sweet to go with "OCReMix" in the genre field. I know "Game" is final, I'm just speaking my mind.

My track sounds really amateurish compared to the stuff in the trailer. Oh well. It's been a while. I guess I could blame the advancement of technology or something ("making something that awesome just wasn't feasible using the gear available of the time") *cough*
-
Holy shit, it's coming out in only 4 days? I never thought this day (the day 4 years before the release date) would ever come. E V E R. Here's to proph for not giving up on this. *raises glass* EDIT: Dude, if there's still time, could you change my mixer name (website, first post, mp3 tag, press release, whatnot) to Dafydd? I know phytre pighlet was the name I went by at the time I made my mix, but it feels really awkward now, it's like someone else made my mix instead of me. Please? Also, did you fix the typos in the writeup I wrote about myself or should I send you a fixed version?

Displaying .txt files in Chrome with custom colors
Dafydd replied to Dafydd's topic in General Discussion
Duh. Yes, but then I won't have to delete them from my download folder when I'm done reading. I'm sure there's a nice way to deal with that too (i.e. automatically save text files to a certain folder which is scheduled to empty itself every so often), but you'd think there was a setting to change the display colors within chrome itself... -
These guys make ReMixes, nearly as per djp's definition, sometimes to the point you can't hardly recognize the source, but of hit music rather than of game music. Their versions feature acoustic drums, electric bass, keys, and insanely good vocals. I haven't seen a performance this tight since liquid tension experiment. Note the bad-ass bassline from 0:20 or so. http://www.myspace.com/dirtyloopsswe Note that this pic, while awesome, does not appropriately represent the awesomeness of their music.

Displaying .txt files in Chrome with custom colors
Dafydd replied to Dafydd's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it would, but then I'd have to download the file to disk before I could open it, which really defeats the point. Thanks for your reply though! -
When LT doesn't write anything in your post, but he does in the post before and after it, does that mean it's beneath his dignity to write something, or is he just not paying attention? I'm just curious. EDIT: Oh wait. He just went ahead and added the mascot without writing anything about it. Fair enough.

Saw this on the wip boards forever ago. Glad to finally see it posted! The vibrato on the vocals (which sounds added in rather than part of the original performance) is a little excessive at times, but the performance itself is alright. Best. Review. Ever.

OCR02120 - Duke Nukem 3D "All Outta Gum"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Certainly a strange ReMix, but I'm happy to see this theme finally being covered here on OCR. Also, congratulations! -
I'm pretty sure that when I looked at the list a while back all of those tracks (Wheel Gator (X2), Wire Sponge (X2), Crystal Snail (X2), X-Hunter Stage 2 (X2)) were claimed. Was I just dreaming?
-
Right. So, do I ask HFA to do it for me, since maybe e-mails from them are likely to be taken more seriously?
-
Yes, yes, that's all well and good, run along now... can I get a real answer, please?
-
Alright, well, if the publisher doesn't reply to my e-mails, then what?
-
You're saying the Harry Fox Agency is the place to go if, say, I make an arrangement of a song in Act Raiser and my choir makes a recording of that and sells CD's with it? What if we perform it on stage, and charge people for the tickets?
-
How do the cover/remix bands do it? The One-Ups, the Megas, the Minibosses, Game Over... are they actually allowed to sell arrangements of game music? They're making money off it, after all. I remember Mustin PMd me about this some time ago, but I seem to have deleted that message to clear up space.

Hey Is there a way to set up Chrome so it displays simple .txt files with other colors than just black on white (e.g. green on black)? I've been googling around but haven't found solution. There's an extension named "change colors" but it only works on actual webpages, not on simple .txt files. I could, of course, open the .txt files using something else, but then I'd have to download them first (I think). Thanks for any help...

I tried this out first time today. Never heard of it before. I guess I should hang out in gendisc more often... I had a quick beer and no dinner before trying it, so I was dizzy before I even started. And afterwards? Well... let me put it like this. "Maaan..."

wip Last Ninja, The Wastelands - 80's Spacesynth Mix
Dafydd replied to Tex's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
10 char Seriously though, this is fun. I think you could use some more (preferably gated) reverb, particularily on the snare. -

This made me smile. Thanks, guys! -
SEGA Removing "Poor" and "Average" Sonic Titles From Retail
Dafydd replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
From that same article: This sounds like the old PC CD-ROM games where the pre-bink CGA/QVGA intro sequences were like 50 megs and the games about 20, and the pre-mp3 soundtracks took up the rest of the discs. Only not quite as bad. -
