within 15 miles or so there's two wal-marts, a gamestop, and a hastings. and that's about it, really. but if i'm really desperate i can drive all the way to albuquerque where there's like target and circuit city and best buy and comp USA and software etc and babbages and EB and whatever else. but that's a long drive to make to come back empty handed.

"unscrupulous money grubbing vendors" includes eBay and craigslist scalpers. the nearest Best Buy is 50 miles away and no I don't know anyone who works there.

OK i managed to at least get it functional, though it's still horribly broken. on my first try without hints I got 36 (72% - Did you used to record game tunes...). There's a few that I know but I just can't recall the game. What I got right: 2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,17,18,20,22,23,24,26,30,31,32,33,34,35,38,39,41,42,43,44,45,46,47,48,49 What I done failed: 1,4,15,16,19,21,25,27,28,29,36,37,40,50

Grados... a wise choice. No there's no innate quality difference between 1/4" and 1/8" jacks. The supposed quality loss comes from using an adapter, but it's absolutely negligible anyways (unless there's a short or your adapter is truly a piece of shit).

I must stress the awesomeness of SUPER MARIO BROS 3. And I will second Shatterhand. Most of the other good stuff has already been mentioned: TNMT 2 & 3, Punch Out, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, Splatterhouse, etc. Forgetting lots, I'm sure.

BATTLEFIELD 2142 - I win. I was trying to decide between BF2142 and Hellgate: London. BF2142 was cheaper, so I went with that. After the first time trying to log in just to play offline, and getting endless 'Connection to EA Master Server Lost' errors, I immediately began to regret that decision. City of Villains - A super villain MMORPG? Sounds like fun! Isn't. The best part of this game is creating your character. Everything afterwards is shit. The Sims - Someone told me it was fun. As fun as watching paint dry, really. The Bouncer - The first PS2 game I bought. I always thought of Square equating with quality. This game shattered that ideal. Don't even get me started on it (YOU NEED A FUCKING MULTITAP TO PLAY 2 PLAYER FOR FUCK'S SAKE). probably some other games over the years I'm forgetting.

Guitar Hero vs. Actual Musical Skills

I play both drums and guitar. I picked up Guitar Hero relatively easy, I suppose. I mean, I haven't played it a lot, but I was able to get the gist of it in maybe 10 seconds of fucking around. I'm pretty comfortable with the guitar, so it was more eye-hand coordination than anything. Making the transition from actual drums to rock band drums on the other hand is a freaking nightmare. There is no logic whatsoever to how rock band decides it wants you to play percussion. They just throw random colors and lines at you and you hit random pads. It makes no sense, and the layouts often have nothing at all to do with actual drums. It's just purely arbitrary. I suppose Guitar Hero is kind of the same way, but at least higher pitched notes tend to go up the fretboard, which works in my brain logically, rather than banging on things in nonsensical patterns that have nothing whatsoever to do with the song playing in the background. A drummer could probably play Rock Band just as well with no music (or just a metronome), perhaps even easier because the actual song isn't distracting you from the arbitrary-ness. And I digress.
