  1. Very cool. I can definitely hear the '70s prog influence in this. For my ears, it mainly lies in the production and instrument sounds, especially the guitars. They sound like they might have jumped through a time warp to meet up with you in the future. That's a cool thing. Some people might jump on the vocals for being a bit over-compressed or whatever, but I think they're fitting for what you're going for. They're crystal clear, have their own space, are never invasive and sit nicely as well while complimenting the surrounding instruments with their presence, so it all works out just fine of course. Those drums are so awesome. The changes are unique. I especially enjoy some of the surprising stops and starts, which are fitting for the style you're emulating. This is a track that needs to grow on people before they can ultimately come to a conclusion as to what they really think of it, I think. Upon my 2nd listen through, it's a separate journey altogether. I'm sure after a few more listens, it'll sink in real nicely. Excellent work.
  2. I've added a bunch of you guys. Let me know if anyone wants to battle it out or trade or whatever! My Diamond FC: 2964 5060 7419
  3. My Diamond FC: 2964 5060 7419 If anyone adds me, please let me know!
  4. I'll pass the word on to her since it's her copy for her DS. She still hasn't quite talked me into buying my own copy of the game...yet.
  5. Picking up Pokemon Pearl later this morning after reserving it at TRU only yesterday. I have no idea what I'm getting into. The wife made me do it. Honest. heh, guy at TRU suggested we not show up until sometime after 11am once the Wii craze dies down. They expect a huge rush of kiddies.
  6. Vienna's right here: http://www.soundblaster.com/soundfont/downloads.asp
  7. I nearly forgot to mention that I purchased my Echo Audiofire8 sound card from zzounds after checking out this thread. I was originally gonna make a purchase elsewhere, but the 30-day money back guarantee was a clincher for me, plus it's awesome helping out OCR. I felt confident about the transaction at the time and am now enjoying my gear today. rawk. \m/
  8. I honestly wouldn't put it past someone like MJ to try and pull something like this off, but was it not confirmed by anyone to be an early April Fool's joke?
  9. Not bad. I dig the tone of your voice and choice of songs. With a tad bit more control, you'd be golden, but I realize those high notes are tough, plus you're sitting of course. You should enter VOCR one of these rounds when/if you can. At the very least, it would be neat to hear your voice on some tunes, if you got any. Pretty good, pretty neat.
  10. Are you in college by chance? If so, I'd join choir. I learned a ton while being in choir. The experience of singing in harmony, warming up and just singing often really helped me develop myself a lot. I'd also recommend private vocal lessons if something like that is available at college and if you're able to afford a semester or two. Again, it's great experience and really gets your mindset in the right place for developing your abilities. One thing I enjoy doing often for practicing at home, since I have the proper set up now, is I listen to music through headphones and sing along. I have my microphone on so that I can hear myself over the music. There's something about hearing yourself through headphones that makes it more fun to sing along with songs. Plus, it's good studio practice, since that's how I always record myself singing anyways. When you can hear yourself nice and clearly through a headset, then you can really pick out how your inflections come across and how they sound to your ears.
  11. A rock remix would definitely be bitchin'. I also agree that it would be nice to mix things up as often as possible for this contest in order to attract new competitors and keep things fresh.
  12. btw, the white shirt I received was printed with black ink on the front and back. The description on eStarland's site claims that the front is printed in navy color, but mine wasn't. Not sure why. Just giving the heads up on that in case that bothers anyone who's thinking of ordering a white shirt.
  13. Though I know you guys aren't exactly taking requests, I'd looooove if someone did something from Portrait of Ruin.
  14. I didn't realize so many people around these parts were only recently married or coming close to it. Neato. Congrats on the baby, Nutritious! No problem! Feel free to ask us anytime about anything! We found it to be a somewhat intimidating process at first, especially since Homeland Security is so tight lipped and often-times cryptic about what they wanted from us in order for us to do all of this their way, the only way, legally of course. We learned a ton from it though, and ultimately realized it's not as big of a deal as we originally made it out to be. It's just all about going through tons of paperwork and the time it takes for them to process it all, which can be a long time, so it's best to get an early jump start on things once you're ready. At first we thought we'd have to hire a lawyer to get us through it (too expensive), but we ended up doing it all ourselves and saved thousands of dollars in legal fees.
  15. Wow, just 3 days after ordering my tee using regular USPS shipping and it arrived today! Very nice. I'm also impressed to see the logo and URL printed on the back. I was expecting the front print only. rawk \m/
  16. Interesting timing with this thread. My fiancee, who's Canadian, just immigrated here to the U.S. only 2 days ago, bringing with her the fiancee visa for which we spent over a year petitioning to receive. We now have 90 days (from last Tuesday) to get married. Woohoo! It's a shame we couldn't really plan a wedding in advance though. There was no way of telling just how long we'd have to wait to get the visa approved and even then, when we'd get the visa itself once the approval came through. So, we're settling on a quickie courthouse marriage while time allows.
  17. I got a feeling I'll be the only dude in southern Wisconsin sporting an OCR tee once it gets here. Just ordered it 2 days ago (I waited long enough) and it shipped yesterday. I plan on wearing it A LOT this summer wherever I go.
  18. SSX3 It's my all-time favorite PS2 game.
  19. 2099 songs, 4.7 days, 7.45 GB are all on my 30GB iPod. I still have yet to add a good number of rock albums and movie soundtracks.
  20. yay, thanks Malcos! btw, thanks everyone for your insightful reviews. In fact, I've received more helpful reviews through this competition than in any other I've been in so far. Good stuff. I'm keeping in mind everything that I've read for the next time I work on something.
  21. Whoa, kick ass video! I gotta tell ya, I have much love for this arrangement/performance. haha, and I love the ending to the video. Perfect. I'm putting this video on my ipod.
  22. Actually, I was really expecting/hoping that you'd be following pixietricks' formatting and link to each song individually (another good example of this is the DoD[link] competition). The way it's set up now, nobody's gonna know whose song is whose. Plus, it's nice if people who are visiting get to listen to the top 3 tracks or whatever and associate those tracks with whom they belong to. Personally, I'd really like for everybody to have a nicely tagged copy of my entry so they can associate it with me. In addition, we can all get more feedback from those people who are just showing up to see the results. That's half of the fun right there for those who entered the competition, plus it's a nice reward for our hard work. I'd take the extra exposure over prizes any day. This sort of thing will also attract more competitors to future rounds. Everybody who cares already has the rar file. Anyone new to the topic won't know whose track is whose when they open it up. I suggest that you retag them and link each person's name to their respective mp3 file. btw, if web space is a problem, I can lend some for this contest. Just let me know. I'd be more than happy to help out!
