  1. Judge decisions are posted publicly and can be read by anyone. The way the decision for that mix plays out can easily be interpreted as a discouragement of pure chiptunes to be submitted; not that it necessarily is, just that it can easily be read that way. You really don't have to stretch that far to get that conclusion, especially based on my own vote, which was basically a NO vote on technical grounds (i.e. "no because I based on other decisions we don't accept chiptunes"). Incidentally, that was a bad vote on my part. If the entire crux of your argument here is "I don't understand how ANYONE could think that!" then you need to take a step back and realize that people are going to interpret things in different ways. You have to remember, this was like 5+ years ago. I'm not trying to get all "you're just a kid on you" because that's dumb and irrelevant, but you really were not around on OCR back then and kind of lack the context of the mindset and feel of the site. Espergirl wasn't rejected on compositional grounds (although that probably should have been the reason it was NO'd, IMO), so to call it out as being "composer-wank" (to borrow the term you borrowed from me ) in the context of discussion why it was rejected is silly. A little more reading, a little less posting, bro.
  2. Basically what zircon said. Also you have to keep in mind that OCR looks for single, cohesive pieces. Sometimes people want to pay tribute to a game so they try to pack as many themes from the game into their piece at a time. What ends up happening is that their piece ends up sounding like a string of quick remix sketches, rather than something that works as a single piece of music with a beginning, middle, and end. One crit I've used a few times when judging medleys in the past has been, "I really like that 20 second bit where you covered that one theme; I wish that was a fleshed out remix." Often I feel like it's a wasted opportunity. As soon as I start getting into the idea being presented, the song switches gears to something completely different. It feels like a cop-out sometimes; the artist had an idea for how to interpret a song, but they didn't want to sit down and really develop that idea, so they just do a 20 second tease or something. Medleys aren't bad or wrong, and I don't really like calling them lazy either, because they do take some work, but for OCR, you want your submission to be an idea, not a string of ideas. I've done some mixes with multiple sources (usually only two though) and my approach is always to use the changing of source tunes as a way to provide a change of pace; the second source essentially becomes a B-section for the piece which will callback or lead itself back to the A-section (the first source). Regardless of the number of sources you use, callbacks are a great way to keep things cohesive.
  3. We're finding out from Capcom what exactly the situation will be. Most likely these remixes will be treated as any other remix that falls under OCR's Content Policy with little restriction from Capcom, but nothing is set in stone right now. I would not plan on putting together any EPs right now. Once we get more info from the Captain Commandos, we will post it.
  4. Really guys, just submit some chiptunes. EDIT: I also agree with Sam about Espergirl. To be less delicate, it's basically composer-wank. I like the arrangements in NES Jams much better.
  5. B&W is designed for first-time players. That's probably your best bet.
  6. He was asking about apps.
  7. Just submit chiptunes.
  8. Most forum browsing apps require a plug-in installed on the forum software by the forum administrator. We don't have any mobile browsing plug-ins installed on OCR's forum software, as they generally cost money (or the apps they interface cost money).
  9. Just submit chiptunes.
  10. If your post keeps getting deleted, don't keep posting it over and over again.

  11. I think this is a good way to end this discussion. EDIT: by ending this discussion i mean don't continue it in another thread. It's over.
  12. Please stop saying things like this.
  13. What makes you say that, honestly? Their track record with MMORPGs is not very long. They have one that launched a few months ago. TOR is doing alright but the real measure of any MMO game's success is its longevity. It's not a breakout smash hit. Bioware hasn't actually proven anything on the MMO front yet.
  14. You keep saying shit like this. I'm starting to think you actually believe it.
  15. Said this before, but we get a lot of clickthroughs from Facebook.
  16. I doubt Bioware's ability to sustain two MMORPGs at the same time.
  17. If you don't create a Facebook account, we will infect your computer with a virus that will completely disable your ability to download the album. Also if you try to listen to the remixes on YouTube they won't load for you (they will load for everyone else). Also the virus will create electromagnetic waves that will alter your brain chemistry to affect your sense of hearing and nullify the sound waves whenever you try to listen to remixes from this album any other way (someone else's computer, over the phone, a couple of guys just singing what they heard to you). If you don't sign up for Facebook and like the OC ReMix page, you will never be able to experience any of the music from this album, ever.
  18. Your argument was "you should give people another way to help get the album released because some people can't use social media!" And then you suggested offline solutions. So I said "we can't really track that." And you said "well it's still valid right?!" And I said "sure but it's not an alternative." You've changed your argument halfway through. Of course I don't believe in Facebook as the only avenue to promote things. I created the OCR twitter account and the Facebook page and all that stuff. I try to push OCR through any social media I can. Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, last.fm, etc. Whatever. Look, Facebook is good for us. We get a lot of eyes on music we post through Facebook. A lot of people click through the Facebook links when we post a remix. How do we know this? Because Facebook gives use metrics for that kind of thing. Graphs, counts, stats, etc. That's why it's important for us to get people to like our Facebook page; it's a really effective platform for us to promote the music. It's not the only platform (YouTube's another good one), but it does drive a lot of people to the site, which is really good, because if they come here they're more likely to stay here, rather than just listening to the YouTube video and staying on YouTube.
  19. Yeah he's still a judge.
  20. Alright, but that really isn't an alternative to promoting channels that allow us to directly and easily interact with people.
  21. Yes because it's so easy for us to track when someone posts a flyer at a grocery store. You're throwing out these suggestions but you don't take logistics into account. How do we measure that kind of thing? "I told three of my friends about it!" Uh, okay? "I put up a flyer, here's a picture." Okay, we'll add it to our database of real space promotional tracking!!!!!!!! The entire point in getting people to follow the OCR page on Facebook is so that we can continue to promote and inform people about music that comes out in the future in an effortless and direct manner. It gives us a way to interact with people very quickly, as soon as new music is posted. Nobody is unfairly barred from anything. The album isn't out yet. Nobody except staff has access to it. You don't get preferential treatment because you happen to participate. Once the target is hit, everyone gets the album. And people accuse me of hating fun. Are you for real?
  22. Or, maybe, you know, you're all just over analyzing the entire thing.
  23. I've updated the first post with submissions information. Because the music from this competition will be provided to Capcom for promotional stuff, competitors are required to submit their entries to me in a lossless format. Either WAV or FLAC is acceptable, so long as the file name is in the correct format. Check the first post for detailed submissions information.
  24. Some people aren't happy unless they're outraged about something. It's very silly.
