I know some of the people with finished tracks and wouldn't mind helping reach out, see if we can pry some WAVs out of their hands. You know where to find me if you need a hand

Congrats to both of you! Nice to see familiar faces recently getting devoted to one of the core tasks of this community.
Now, I know this forum became as active as a ghost town in the past 5 years. But I thought there would be a warmer reception for such an important announcement. Come on, guys!

You know, I too am a judge of fewer words than usual.
The production feels perfect to me.  Seriously, I can't find anything to fault about instrument placement, the synth timbre selections in Jorito's case or even recording quality on Earth Kid's part.  Even the arrangement is well demonstrated with changing Another Termina into a funk-folk 4/4 shuffle feel, ear-catching bass writing throughout, wonderful countermelodies in the second Termina variation, and a fitting groove carrying it all forward.  The idea of folk and electronic styles just mashing together is an idea that I didn't think we'd deserve! This combination works, it's clean, and it's a powerful highlight from the Chronopolis album.
Seriously, why the hell didn't this get a direct post?!

...and I gotta say i'm especially looking forward to the Sega loving @Rexy-Era of OCRemix!  Good luck with new positions.

We scoured the land for the most evil people we could find to join us, and we're proud to add @prophetik music and @Rexy to the judges panel.
I'm personally aiming to finally have that submissions queue go to 0 by the end of this year, and we're excited to have their help.
Revel in their fresh perspectives and presence now before they become entrenched in the system and simply become part of the evil mass of musical oppression that the rest of us have morphed into.  (a.k.a. WELCOME!)

This track sounds just as fun as the pink ball of fluff himself!  The source is there for the entire duration, the instrumentation choice is simple yet effective, the instruments are balanced well, and that drum writing added a lot of life to the progression all the way through.
Talking of which, I have a take on prophetik's statement on the drums being samey.  I did notice the sections for melody A (0:21-1:00, 1:30-1:55, 2:42-3:07) and melody B (1:01-1:23, 1:55-2:16) have their distinct groove based on how many ride bells are present, so it's a subtle lift - but more importantly, only two fills out of the entire track are totally identical (1:00, 3:06) and they closed off melody A sections.  Through this analysis, you can see why I felt this drum writing technique works in the track's context.
As for something that doesn't quite work for me, I would've liked to have heard an extra pad to fill up space - especially at the melody C section (2:16-2:35), where the tempo shift sounds cool, but the minimalism was holding anticipation back.  It's a nitpick at best, so do be careful when approaching similar sections in future works.
However, the arrangement required a lot more thought.  If I put the bum notes that prophetik brought up to the side, the source presence is primarily note-for-note with some selective tweaks.  Bringing up the backing arpeggio first, it's mostly unchanged though there were times where:
It got muted for a bar or half-bar to make transitions satisfying, especially at 0:20 where the sudden use of delay was a nice touch to head out of the intro. And at 1:42-1:54 and 2:53-3:07, the rhythm remained unchanged, but the pitches were altered to adapt to the bassline - and as Sir NutS rightfully pointed out, there wasn't a bass in the source so good call to add some spice there too. As for the melody, it's not entirely note-for-note either as some notation was taken out or had timings changed during the melody A parts, and the melody B sections had some additional notes leading into the segments to add anticipation leading into them as well as no sign of the last few notes on the way out.  Even the second melody section had some additional notation onto the piano lead to compensate for the fact that it's not a pitch-shifting synth.  These melody and arpeggio changes are subtle, but there is attention to detail here saving those sections from being a complete copy-paste.
I feel like I went more in-depth about those subtle changes than what Sir NutS pointed out, but it's there, and it saves the track from being more overly repetitive than the source material.  Should this get rejected, I have some ideas on how to remedy it for resub:
Think about either changing the pitches of the arpeggio's upbeats or muting them entirely.  At the moment it's got the source's same doubled note feel, so by keeping the downbeats as they are and changing the upbeats up in later segments, it can release that instrument from increased monotony. The second melody B section is free to have its melody drastically altered.  Drum fills aside, it's a mirror of the first melody B section - and with the arpeggio there already meeting source criteria, you're free to change the melody writing to something completely original potentially. Consider adding some hand percussion in addition to your main drum part.  You've got the kit writing down pat, but to further vary it up, you can add some additional parts like a tambourine or shakers and place them in one or two segments.  Sometimes you can have more than one extra hand percussion part at once, but it's best to save them for the most poignant sections of the track. As it stands, there's just about enough playing around with the limited source to get it over the arrangement bar in my book.  Coupled with the firm production values, I can see it on the front page, but I also understand the main criticism that has divided the panel.  It'll still be so lovely to see this on the site in some shape or form.
    YES (borderline)

The first video game I ever bought with my own pocket money was the Game Boy version of Dr. Mario.  I had already gotten the system the Christmas before and seeing all the games on display in a brochure in the box, I felt keen to get whatever games really drew my attention to it.  It was a wise choice too - the entire family ended up competing as to who would get good and beat level 20 at the Hi speed setting first!

Yeah, names on my arranges are usually the last thing that I come up with.  It’s a play on words - the original Japanese title of the source translates back to English as “Sky-Blue Summer”, so with Randi and his party “assuring” ther cause for the Mana Seeds, that can only open doors for something punny.

Hey everyone! Our friends over at RadioSEGA are releasing a new collaborative arrangement album! This album is really special for a number of reasons:
-It features 12 musicians (including myself!) and some familiar faces from around the community
-I believe it's RadioSEGA's 2nd arrangement album after their 10th anniversary album last year
-and most importantly, this album will help support Special Effect which is a charity that helps people with disabilities play video games!
The album, titled Collision Theory, was directed by the venerable Opus Science Collective. It will be out September 1st! Get hyped!
There will be a listening party on September 1st which will be a special episode of SEGA Mixer Drive. More details over at RadioSEGA: https://www.radiosega.net/news/sega/2017/08/introducing-radiosega-presents-collision-theory/
I'm super excited about this! And you all should be too! Please help us get the word out! The album will be available on RadioSEGA's bandcamp page where all proceeds will go towards the Special Effect charity!
    Cheers,
    Syllix

I think a thread like this is long overdue considering how much I've gotten back towards Deviantart for a bit, but it's here:
    http://freqrexy.deviantart.com/

Before OC Remix, I did a lot of art and written work there, though 'art' was much loosely defined as I was one that just wanted to do their best with the mere traditional mediums I got stuck with.  Now that technology has moved on significantly, I've found myself drawing digitally more often and learning as many tricks as I can to see how I could keep refining my skill set!  I focus a lot on character drawing, with my primary focus being to pay more attention to overall pose work over detail.

Here's a quick summary of the best artwork I did in 2016.  You can see that a lot of my proudest submissions, oddly enough, tend to be of the Nintendo variety thanks to art projects I have been a part of - but I am always itching to go back towards the games that I loved at one point and seeing what I can do with them.

I'm also looking to do artwork commissions as well!  Prices go as cheap as $5 for a chibi or half-body sketch of a single character of your choice, or as high as $64 for a fully shaded picture with a background and 3 characters; prices depend on the type you'd like to see.

Otherwise, alongside working on music, I'm always interested to see where the stylus would take my next.  Have fun visiting!

Rexy got a reaction from Eino Keskitalo in Music from the Sly Cooper game series used in Saturday Night Takeaway
A quick history on the show: Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is a variety show that airs on ITV in the UK during the late Winter / early Spring.  The TV duo (Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnely) are one of the most iconic double acts of the past 20 years in this country, having grown as entertainers that worked efficiently as a duo.

A quick history on the game: Sly 2: Band of Thieves is a stealth / platforming videogame released on the PlayStation 2 in 2004, and the second game in the Sly Cooper videogame series.  A lot of musical motifs in the second game, as composed by Peter McConnell (whom most guys that frequent here would recognize his work in Psychonauts and Grim Fandango among other Lucasarts titles), would go on to be recurring themes in the game's following sequels.  The Paris theme in particular ended up shaping motifs for what would eventually become the main theme for the Sly series as a whole.

What appears to be a re-recording of a fragment for the Paris theme can be heard as backing music during The Missing Crown Jewels, the new recurring mini-drama within the current season of Saturday Night Takeaway.  The time-stamp for the musical fragment goes from 2:13-3:02.

When I heard it when watching tonight's show live, my mind suddenly got blown and I had to type my baffled thoughts on Twitter within seconds.  Now here comes the next interesting thoughts regarding all this - did someone at the show's production team at ITV or Mitre TV think they could acknowledge videogame music in such a way and highlight the score to a mainstream viewing audience?  Could it be a case of just putting in the music without giving any form of loyalties?  Or was there something else that might've been behind the scenes?  Either way, I've heard videogame music being brought in through TV before but ITV was the last channel I was expecting to try and pull this off.

Thoughts, assuming people outside the UK can actually see the first video link?

Also, I think if anyone didn't really fill out their interests and/or wants on the page, this thread might be a good time to do it.
I recall last year where I had a person that I couldn't find anything for at all, and had to question another member to get even a little bit of info. Like, two weeks of digging around and asking to find out they liked Sentai stuff, which would have fit perfectly in the info page we all set up the month before.
