  1. Well, you say Banjo Kazooie, but all I can hear is Noddy. The main issue throughout the whole song is the recording and volume, as other people have said. And the transition- perhaps the original melody could slow down and then have a creepy opening to the second verse? At the moment, both sections are good, but I'm partial to the former- love it.

  4. I just had a phone call that was 4:20 long, and it reminded me of this song. Always been a favourite, bringing a unique quality to the guitar portion of the community- both the song and zyko.

  9. I was looking forward to SFDS What's wrong with it? Almost all of it. First of all, the touch screen control destroys all of the twitchiness that Star Fox 64 was known for (and what made it so good). The control is overly sensitive and sometimes confused to the inputs you give it. Secondly, doing maneuvers like loops and u-turns now requires you to press a small icon ont he touch screen, taking out the skill of doing them, but also forcing you to stop controlling your arwing for however long it takes you to glance form the top screen to find the icon and press it. I should also mention that barrel rolling is now a thing of the past; it's been taken out as a maneuver. Lastly, the whole setup of the game is ludicrous. They've changed the mission/story based style of SF64 and turned SFDS into a pseudo-tactical RPG where you move each individual squadron's arwing around a map, positioning them to intercept enemies (which takes you into a battle sequence where you actually fly the damn ship). Each turn you're expected to manage the amount of fuel each arwing has, with the ultimate goal being to defeat the enemy's mothership. Levels have been reduced to such mundane goals as "fly through X number of rings" or "kill X number of enemies" for completion. If people thought Starfox Adventures was bad, they could at least ignore it because the gameplay was so different. Nintendo is taking the core of Star Fox 64 and removing everything that was good about it. Whoa. Most of those things won't change without a complete overhaul of the game.. I'll be cautious.
  10. What's to say? Sam just rocks, and Duelling Consoles is no different. An original remix idea, astounding execution, amazing experience. It's sad that Figaro Chiptune and Espergirl 2A03 aren't around to complement this one, but I understand the reasoning behind the rejections and accept them. An excellent triumvirate.
  11. That's Morty, from Gizmos and Gadgets, a really cool edutainment game (oxymoron?). Search for the 'June is End Boss Month' thread in Unmod and you'll understand. I think if the character of which you are writing the bio is the protagonist/mascot of their series, then some backstory of the franchise's history should be given. So for Metal Slug, its backstory within the game, how it attacks etc, and then how the Metal Slug series has impacted on gaming as a whole and how it is remembered. Different to a mascot such as, say, Lucca. And the Toyota? That one's really a black sheep, but I was considering taking an approach similar to Polo's Marvel bios on this page. That is, not identify them as a game character and more where they originated from. So, the latter of your suggestions for the Toyota (but I don't think there's any need to go searching for its appearance in any other games besides the NSF franchise).
  12. Orta SEGA 2003 Ten years after the events of Panzer Dragoon Saga, mysterious girl Orta sits in a tower guarded by a fear known only as the Seekers. Her mind is a blank page, knowing nothing of her past, her origins, her parents- a supposed threat to the society around her. She is unknowing to the events of which are happening outside her small prison- the mighty Empire, bent on a worldwide ruling, have risen once again. They have gained new weapons, Dragonmares, bio-engineered creatures rendering the force unstoppable. It is with blissful ignorance Orta holds as these war machines approach the town she resides in, destroying anything in their path. The young girl with pure white hair clutches the bars of her open window. The valley is engulfed in flames, a lethal attack on the seekers by their old enemies of the Empire. With little difficulty the Dragonmares swoop down to tear away the walls of the tower of which Orta survives. They are looking for something. Such creatures were presumed long gone, disappeared with the previous battles in order to stop the Empire from achieving dominance. Orta is rescued by the beast, to which she doesn’t know why or how. She is frightened, confused, as her and the dragon desperately flee from the furious pursuit of the Imperial Army. She does not know her importance, or why the Empire desires the capture of her. It is the beginning of an epic journey of which she will find her purpose, her destiny. What fate awaits the two? Who awaits them at their journey’s end? Everyone will say VGF 24, the April Fools one. 31, Kong in Concert's premiere, and 32, the Mustin interview, were pretty good. 48 to 50 were a good string of shows, capping it off with djp on the air for way too long. Jim Holland's first appearance was probably a good one, but I don't have it.

Crono SQUARE-ENIX 1995 Of all the role playing games that have graced gaming systems over the years, Chrono Trigger probably starred the most famous mute of all. Created through a collaboration between Final Fantasy’s Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Warrior’s Yuji Horii and Dragon Ball’s Akira Toriyama, the RPG release in the twilight years of the Super Nintendo told of a teenage boy who traveled through time to prevent the awakening of Lavos in the year 1999, and apocalypse. The player’s immersive role through the character is one of the most influential in the genre. Crono lives in 1000 A.D. with his mother, in the Kingdom of Guardia. Upon arriving at the anticipated Millennial Fair he meets Marle, the tomboy princess of the land. His world is turned upside down as his childhood friend Lucca accidentally sends Marle into some kind of time warp with her teleportation machine, sparked by the necklace of the princess. Such are the threads that fuel Crono onto a journey concerning many different eras, personalities and adventures. It is Crono’s astounding fearlessness that energizes him on his quest, almost to the point of foolishness. While never directly speaking in the game, Crono displays a behavior capable of influencing people around him, and to accomplish his goals. He plays several of the classic roles seen in RPGs and stories throughout history- one to save his companions and his supposed love interest Marle, but also a figure to defend his values from the forces of evil. His magical attribute- lightning- is an image to his personality. Crono’s weapon of choice is the katana, and general fighting stance being on the offensive. Many of his special attacks involve channeling the power of lightning through his weapon to attack his foes. Through the use of the tech system, he can team together with other characters to deliver attacks containing attributes of both members. The sequel, Chrono Cross presents much confusion as to what happened to Crono in between storylines, and much speculation has been conjured unto an explanation.   16. Yay, Dafydd's back! Princess Peach NINTENDO 1985 Every hero needs a dame. Mickey has Minnie, Shaggy has Scooby and Mario has Peach. Not content with staying put in her castle, the Princess repeatedly managed to get herself tied up in some form of kidnapping, disappearance, what have you- managing to become the videogame icon for damsels in distress. Nintendo aren’t exactly ones for storylines- evil Koopa King Bowser sneaks away with Peach, Mario realises her absence, Mario sets off on a quest to reclaim his prize. The Princess is reportedly not to be in the running for feminist of the year. When Peach isn’t away in one of Bowser’s vaults, she resides in her castle overseeing her land- the Mushroom Kingdom. A cohort of Toads attend to her every whim as she does whatever Princesses do in their spare time, which seems to be anything not relating to the running of her kingdom. Over the years with Mario she has been known to take up many different pastimes- golf, tennis, cake baking, kart racing (of which her above likeness depicts). It’s a good life, royalty. But boredom does eventually set in with this lifestyle- and so Peach goes on adventures of her own. It was her outgoing nature than convinced Mario to take her on his quest in Super Mario RPG- her affinity with healing powers proved useful on the mission. Her curiosity helped Mario emerge victorious in both Paper Mario games- acting as an undercover agent when locked inside of the fortresses of her enemies. Spiffy. Peach can also lay quite a smackdown if required- her Super Smash Bros Melee appearance involved an arsenal of rackets, parasols and frying pans. Toad even sacrificed himself as a shield for his mistress. Now that’s good service.   18. I'll be honest here. I thought this one had no chance in passing, as soon as I saw it on the judging queue. Roe is a good musician, but his mixes are so abrasive, this one not withstanding. It's the intro here that's a rather loud wake up call- would've thought this needed to be a lot cleaner to pass. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy it- the composition and percussion is excellent, especially given this is a PRC entry. Just, er, bring it down a notch next time, Alex? Congrats on making it onto OCR. And welcome back Malcos.

  20. I took the time from my Animals of Farthing Wood marathon to write this. Back to it, then. Luigi NINTENDO 1983 It’s not easy, being Luigi. The lesser of the two Mario brothers constantly plays second fiddle to the more famous Nintendo mascot Mario, a fact that has become so true over the years that some of their games actively poke fun at it. The ‘skinny one with the green hat’ is constantly presented as the shyer, more timid of the two. Indeed, the original reason pertaining of his creation was the need of a player two character in Nintendo’s games. Luigi’s first appearance was in the arcade Mario Bros. game, quite literally a colour change from the Mario sprite used. Critically, no difference existed between him and his brother, until Super Mario Bros 2 divided their abilities. Luigi was deemed the less powerful of the two, yet possessing a more advanced jump. Supposedly his greater athletic ability led him to become taller and less fat than the pasta loving Mario. His somewhat paranoid nature has influenced him to stay behind at home while letting the elder of the siblings save the Princess and the Mushroom Kingdom. A handful of games have starred Luigi, despite his reluctance to go adventuring. The rather infamous edutainment Mario is Missing was not developed by Nintendo’s core team, and so was somewhat lost in the familiarity of the Mario universe. It wasn’t until the release of the GameCube that the plumber could use his abilities to the fullest in Luigi’s Mansion. The irony that both of these titles involve rescuing Mario seems not to be lost on the game’s creators. Other escapades by the little green man are told rather than played- the second iteration of Paper Mario involved a humourous side story running parallel to Mario’s own adventure. As a core character in Nintendo’s franchise, Luigi makes regular appearances in Mario’s spin off titles, such as Mario Party and Super Smash Bros.   21. The former I actually suggested in my broken Babelfish Japanese. The latter, however, I hadn't even thought of, but could prove to be very interesting. Didn't think Jet Force Gemini made that big a splash in Japan (or anywhere else, for that matter). Miyamoto wasn't a fan, anyway.
