  1. What's up BP. Good luck on getting that monster sound for your next posted mix.

  2. New version here: http://soundcloud.com/cc-ricers/cc-ricers-big-hands-to-fill-wip-2 First version I'm flexing my dubstep muscles again. This is what I have so far. I'll try my best not to post an update until I get this to 3 minutes. I expect the final version to be around 4 minutes long. It's not really dark sounding, considering the source, but it does get loud. Well, take that back, it does get darker at the end. I may add some voice samples, but just not as much as in the source
  3. This especially. When I heard of side-chaining it sounded like some arcane black magic from the DAW world but following a basic tutorial got me started. You could get your mixes loud and proud through some meticulous sidechaining. Sidechaining seems to be very different in FL9 and FL8. Zircon has a for the new method.
  4. You sure know how to crank out interesting bass sounds. This is really heavy, doc. I like the progression throughout the whole mix. The only tricky part for the judges might be most of the mix before 2:03 because much of the source isn't present there. Also kudos to making this available as a 320 mp3.
  5. I understood your comments, heiswhoiam. Yeah, it does tend to be a bit all over the place right? It usually happens to my mixes early on in the production process, before they condense towards the finish. I tend to throw a couple small ideas and eliminate some of them as I go along. At 1:45 you think it could sound fuller? Well that's what I'm getting at least, but here I actually thought this was one of the main parts of the mix, and haven't really planned to add anything else to it. The main harmony (in the source starting at :32) does get underplayed but like you said I still have a ways to go to incorporate it further. I actually placed some of it in 1:24 to 1:34 but with an altered rhythm. Perhaps I should also extend the section at 1:34 to a couple more bars? All the effects are also one of those things where I'm just throwing ideas and still testing out what might make the cut and what wouldn't. They'll start to sound more cohesive once I fill out the first break and intro. Thanks for the insight, it's been very helpful.
  6. I chose this track because I find it seldom remixed, and also wanted to keep the sense of danger you usually don't get from underwater level music. What style it is, well it's kind of cross-genre. This mix contains elements of drum & bass, dubstep, and a bit of hip hop. The breakdown from 0:44 to 1:03 is pretty bare, that needs the most work for now. I plan to add additional effects or ambiance to fill it out. 7. Late to the party, but I just had to comment on this. This sounds "big" even before the beats kick in. I definitely feel the Justice influence, and also at 1:53 the organ is very reminiscent of Deadmau5's Ghosts 'n' Stuff. This is very compressed but it still sounds so clean.
  8. It's not bad, but it's still not "Rhymes With Elixir" in my opinion.
  9. You know DDR was the bee's knees when you attracted a dozen or so people to shadow dance with you. And although I wasn't really into it, there were a lot of freestyle dancers around the time of DDR USA/4th Mix. Those also drew big crowds. I think the scoring system overhaul on 5th Mix and subsequent versions killed some of the freestyle movement, as everyone just wanted to get as many perfects as possible.
  10. I've seen all the episodes except for a few in season 4 because Fox decided not to re-run those. Boy, do I ever need to pick up those DVDs. Amy's tattoo still looks blurred on my HDTV set
  11. The design could've been improved by using a slot loader instead.
  12. REDiZER. This is actually a pretty good way to make dubstep wobbles as well as other interesting bass sounds considering that it's totally free. Tip: A possible glitch is hearing pops after notes are released when you set the release to exactly 0 sec after the decay. Move the release a few hundredths of a second to stop this.
  13. Are those the CDJ 2000's or "just" the 900's? I quote that because even with the 900's you can do a lot of things with them, and MIDI capability is pretty much a must with high end DJ equipment these days. You can store all your songs in them without needing a computer, right?
  14. You can find many famous loops from this song: The ones at 1:37-1:39 and 2:05-2:07 in particular are used in many DnB tracks. But you can probably hear more familiar parts in there.
  15. The slower tempo and feel reminds me of the late 90's stuff that was a bit more freeform and not stuck in today's genres. Sounds good.
  16. FINALLY I'd be down to meet anywhere in Chicago.
  17. No replies yet, well, either the game isn't really that played much here or my mix is in a weird spot where it isn't too terrible but also not too exceptional. So it's...too lukewarm to comment on? lol
  18. After being exposed to a lot of songs like the ones NoWave posted, It's really getting me into the realm of harsh, cold-sounding synth production. Super saw waves just don't sound as thrilling or complex anymore. I find that layering slight flanger delays help in pushing the "robotic" sound that some of the basslines have. Vagrance covered everything else to the point- aside from wave shapes, LFO wankery is the biggest influence on the sound.
  19. Windows XP x64 would've been the ideal Windows 3 years ago, and I was disappointed that support dropped quickly. It's all likely because Microsoft was pushing people to get Vista instead
  20. I made a remix of Soulcalibur 4's character creation music. After months of searching for the source, I found out that it is called "Infinite Images". Here is my remix. And here's the source. I'd like to hear your opinions on it.
  21. When the chocobo melody plays it's going on a shuffled rhythm, or in other words, triplets. Your percussion is still going in 4/4 time and it's clashing with the rhythm. I'm guessing this is what is making the melody sound delayed most of the time. When the wobble synth drops in at 1:16 it starts feeling less disjointed as you've got the triplet rhythm going on. Before that, though, it's a bit of a stretch to hear the parts fit together. The mix is stronger sound design-wise after the 2 minute mark. And it's a tad late bringing in the heavier stuff here. You'd want to catch the listener's attention earlier on and put your best foot forward with the sounds. Maybe start playing the chocobo early drop the wobble synth with the chocobo melody again following the triplet rhythm. This will improve your track's structure at least somewhat.
