  1. 21 here, and I own a Wii, DS, and PS2. They all see roughly equal use, though I've found I focus on one at a time. The Wii has gotten the most use recently, with Smash Bros, Mario Galaxy, Boom Blox, and Mario Kart. I really love the system, which is why I'm always looking at the games (specifically 3rd-party games) which look to be promising, and purchase those. Yeah, I've gotten burned a few times (Dewy's Adventure, DK: Barrel Blast, NiGHTS...) but overall I've been very happy with the system.
  2. You need to buy the extra pin slots in certain shops in the game. I can't remember which. But for Beat on Hard, I recommend mastering a strong healing pin, and using the ice tower one. The Ice Tower can stop him dead in his tracks, which gives you a second or so to switch your attention to the top screen and give Joshua some attention so he stops getting his ass kicked. Also, if you want a really easy time of it and don't care about post-battle prizes, crank your level up to its maximum before the fight.
  3. PaRappa the Rapper, and I think you got the kick and punch bit backwards. "HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!" - Tidus "What's going on?!" - Max, Monica, Jaster, etc from Dark Cloud 2 and Rogue Galaxy. It's like it's their bloody catch phrase. Alternately, "What's that?" or "Who's there?"
  4. Why? The original game wasn't hard, either. Hell, it might just mean they include a save-anywhere feature.
  5. You forgot a new Ice Climbers game.
  6. God I want this so, so bad. Doesn't appear to take place on Hillys this time, though to be fair you didn't explore a huge chunk of the world in the first game. Looks like this time around you'll have an old, beat-up car instead of an old, beat-up hovercraft. Pey'j pretty much looks the same as before, except he's got a higher poly count and higher-res textures than before (and don't be fooled; this is definitely CGI). In fact, the only thing really different about him is that he's not wearing his jacket, which is normal considering they're stuck in a desert seemingly waiting for a tow truck. Oh, and the bandage, but anyone who beat the first game probably knows why he's wearing that. Since we haven't seen actual gameplay footage, I wouldn't rule out this not appearing on Wii just yet, but yeah, it's probably likely to just be on PS3 and 360. I plan to get a 360 after summer ends anyway.
  7. When I saw the thread title, I could've sworn I already read the article. The link address proves it; this article is about 5 months old now.
  8. 1) How long have you been playing Smash? Since the n64 game, but I really got into it with Melee. I played more or less consistently for a good year and a half after the game came out, and it was a regular party game after that. 2) Have you been to any tournaments for Smash 64, Melee or Brawl? No official ones, but there were a few at college with only bragging rights at stake. 3) What do you like about Smash Bros. in general? The chance to see lots of cool characters show off their moves. The clashing of different genres and worlds always makes me giddy with the possibilities. 4) What do you dislike about Smash Bros. in general? Repetition. I'm sick of Classic and All-Star modes. They're so dull, especially when you need to play each around 36 times. 5) What do you like about Brawl? SSE, without a doubt. I thought it was a great single-player experience and a ton of fun. 6) What do you dislike about Brawl? Aside from the aforementioned Classic and All-star modes, I find the higher-level computers to be too damn good. It's often apparent they cheat with their perfect shielding and dodging. It can just become ridiculous. 7) What made you decide to jump into the competitive scene? 8 ) What are your goals as far as competitive Smash is concerned? The above do not apply. 9) Do you play other games competitively? No, not in any official way. 10) How does the community for Smash compare to the communities for other games? Smash fans seem to be pretty whiny, but I doubt that's something other communities lack. I guess it's mostly the same, but because of the source material Smash fandom can attract some pretty bizarre types. 11) Any thoughts or comments you would like to share that were not covered by these questions? Nah. EDIT: Well, now I feel dumb. Disregard my answers.
  9. I played it for PS2. Most unforgiving game I've ever played, and the fact that it's so unforgiving makes it an absolute chore to play. Also, the combat is so stiff and dull, and it seems I couldn't find a healing item that didn't also have some adverse effect. And what's with the vitality meter? It just adds another layer of annoyance. I didn't enjoy my time with it at all.
  10. I'm personally looking forward to World of Goo the most, though that's not due for release for a while yet. Lost Winds definitely looks engaging, or at least whimsical.
  11. The circle must be closed for it to register. I really, really wish they gave this game its own sensitivity setting, because I can't for the life of me draw as smooth as it demands. It's made the game harder, at least. I guess that can be seen as a plus (I died! I actually freakin' died!)
  12. Nyx Avatar. In Persona 3, you are on a time limit of about 260 days or so (give or take, a lot of days are skipped over completely). Still, it's a lot of time to build your levels for the eventual final boss battle. It also sorta-kinda doesn't matter if you're level 50 or 90, this boss is a pain in the ass. Wow so? Well, first off, he's got 14 phases. The first 13 aren't so bad, as he sticks to predictable attacks and can be killed in a few rounds each time. But the final form is an entirely new pain in the ass. By now you've been battling for about an hour. His final form has 4 times as much HP, unlimited SP, and all his stats doubled from before. And he slowly earns more powerful moves as the battle progresses. He can shield himself from ALL attacks (except Almighty spells) for a full round, leaving you with the tedious task of changing your dumb AI partners' strategies so they won't inadvertantly kill themselves by attacking him. This makes an already long fight even longer. Then, when he's finally down to 25% HP, he begins using a move that hits everyone, does considerable damage, and inflicts random status effects. Sometimes twice in a row. This creates a huge problem, especially if he charms your healers or enrages your main character (both of which happened to me and caused me to lose horribly). The battle from this point onwards is a total crapshoot, as at any time he can use this spell and get lucky with status effects, charming healers so they fully heal him or enraging the main character so he's uncontrollable (thus taking the ENTIRE BATTLE out of your hands as your allies are too dumb to heal status effects properly, not to mention reducing the hero's defense to 0). So, yeah. After two attempts, I packed it in. Don't care about beating the game anymore.
  13. Not hard, so long as you have all the information on-hand. You can have the wii search for access points and do most of the set-up automatically. If any of the connections are password-protected, however, you'll need to state what kind of security the connection has and its password. It's causing issues for me here because my dad has forgotten the security password, so the wii can't connect to the internet.
  14. That was pointed out to me last night. I think marketing is in charge of things like box art, so I can only assume the port team's marketing department is lazy, incompetent, or both. *sigh* And the box art is so cool otherwise...
  15. Man, I remember this. Glad to see it finally make its way to the system. I'll buy it for sure, if I can find it.
  16. You'll buy it and find out you don't play as Snake, because he dies an in. Instead, for the rest of the game, you will play as Little Orphan Annie who isn't REALLY Annie, just a 34-year-old man pretending to be her, and Snake's reanimated corpse is the final boss, but you gain the power to go Super Saiyan from Snake's soul and defeat his own corpse with a Jargon Blast.
  17. Wait, wait... People are getting mad that the combat ISN'T mindless wiimote waggling and instead takes some timing and practice? Also, I don't recall a single brush technique that required thick lines. The only time I made lines thick was filling in bridges and the like.
  18. If there's gonna be any announcements on the smash bros website from now on, they'll probably be Nintendo-sponsored tournaments or something to that effect.
  19. It's supposed to take place before and after the 3rd game.
  20. Do we really know if the werewolf thing is gonna be slower than the typical Sonic gameplay? What if he maintains his speed but just gets wall-climbing and drilling through the ground or stuff along those lines?
  21. In any case, my roster was just a dumb little thing I worked on for a couple hours. I mean, criminy, it has Dr. Lobe on it. Dr. Freakin' Lobe. Who in their right mind wants to play as him? How many people even know who he is? My roster's also missing the greatest hero ever: Mike Jones, from Startropics. But then again, that's because there aren't any 3D images of him. (Dr. Lobe's pic ain't 3D either, but it was nice and clean art that had a blank background.)
  22. Sent my list. 1) Earthbound 2) Chrono Trigger 3) Startropics 2: Zoda's Revenge 4) Super Punch-Out!! 5) Hogan's Alley
  23. I am aware they all play quite differently. However, they're undeniably similar in certain aspects. That's what I was getting at. Guys like Black Shadow, Blood Falcon, etc, would likely play differently, but be similar to Falcon. But besides, Blood Falcon is definitely better of as just an alternate colour scheme, like "Daisy" and "Louie". I'm surprised nobody called me on my general lack of Fire Emblem characters. And I can honestly say I've never heard of B.o.b.
  24. Sonic and Snake aren't on the dream roster because there's simply no guarantee they'll return for another game. The second roster is entirely Capcom, hence why Megaman's on that. Sega and Konami rosters were attempted, but I couldn't really reach the minimum 28 characters I arbitrarily set up. And More F-Zero characters = more Captain Falcon knockoffs (if not outright "clones"). It happened with Star Fox.
  25. Pit got into Brawl largely because of fan demand after seeing his trophy in SSBM more than any quality his game had. Ice Climbers, meanwhile, were included because they were meant to represent the early NES era of simple, straightforward games. And yes, Ice Climbers is a crummy game. Worst jumping ever.
