I haven't looked inside, yet, but that answered my question. Cheers. Nice update to the first post. I can't think of a better way to organize it with a text-based system. If people know how to use CTRL-F, there should be no trouble finding anything.

I've got a new want. Harddrive for PCG-GRT Sony Vaio laptop [slygen] I can swap desktop harddrives in my sleep, but I don't know much about laptops. Are they all the same size? Interchangeable?
-
Whatever you're planning to do with those games, I guarantee you won't be getting the price you're asking here wherever you go after Friday. I'll offer you $40.00 flat for a shipped Hotel Dusk and New Super Mario Bros.

I could've sworn this was a thread for bargains..

What head-interfacing listening equipment do you use?
SLyGeN replied to atomicthumbs's topic in General Discussion
I get the same problem with headphones most of the time. Even lightweight, cheap headphones will cause the top of my skull to ache where the plastic band is. I use earbuds when I'm traveling. And, I always tell people that investing in expensive speakers is a waste of money. If you've got space, get a bunch of cheap Pioneers, Aiwas, Sonys, Realistics, etc. that people get rid of on their curbs, and wire 'em all in. It sounds brilliant. Only occasionally? Take them apart and check the wire connections. Unless it's full-on white noise static, then I'm not exactly sure what to tell you :\ -

This is what I tell all of my friends that swear by headphones. I use full-body interface listening equipment. -
Performing a mallet percussion ensemble piece?!
SLyGeN replied to snazzypadgett's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I've got Guitar Pro RSE Drum samples, if you want me to import a midi for you. -
I'm listening to it now, and I like it quite a bit. I'm musically illiterate, so bear with me when I make this suggestion.. The four-on-the-floor dsh, dsh, dsh, dsh is great for a techno mix, and should stay. However, consider throwing a couple eighth-note beats in there or something, so it's more of a dsh, dsh, dsh, dsh-d-dsh, dsh, dsh... you kinda get what I mean? Find a way to keep the beat there without having it get repetative. Someone else rephrase this better, partly for my own education. Cheers. But yeah, I like this. I'm keeping this WIP until you post a new one. edit: I want to touch upon a few of your projected gripes, because I'd hate to see you fuck this great track up when it's already quite brilliant. ARRANGEMENT / INTERPRETATION Too liberal, I highly disagree. I'm not familiar with Seymour, but I can clearly hear Magus at points. People here love original work added to the mix. PRODUCTION Too loud, there's no such thing. So long as you aren't clipping, you are perfectly fine. This site needs more loud mixes. Drums have too much energy, it's techno. The beat is supposed to be powerful. I disagree here too. STRUCTURE Lacks coherence overall (no "flow") it does jump around a bit. If you can find a slick way to move into another segment, go for it. Not enough changes in sounds (eg. static texture, not dynamic enough) NO, PLEASE. I hate it when a loud, energy-pumping track blue-balls me by changing its sound completely. Keep it energetic throughout. Abrupt ending It is a little abrupt. Some resolve at the end would be cool, but please do it in minor key. I've heard mixes that were predominantly in minor, and the piece ends with major-key resolve. It destroys the mood.

Harsh vocals are definitely an acquired taste, and it took me some time as well. I had to ignore it at first, but now I find that sometimes it adds to the music. It's almost like percussion, if the words are spoken correctly. Sometimes it adds to the feeling of overwhelming power and destruction. .. it's a Metal thing.

It wasn't until recently that I figured out exactly what it is about a certain piece of music that I like. For the most part, something in minor key will appeal to me. That can be Beethoven, symphonic black metal from norway, or dark electronica. That's pretty damn spread out. Around the California Bay Area, everyone likes Hip-hop that lacks real melodies, pop music that also has little to no melody, and rock music that is primarily in major key. There's also nothing to speak of in my favorite mode, Harmonic Minor. Therefore, even though I have Bach, Dimmu Borgir, Psyclon Nine, and some soft atmospheric pieces, people still call me closed-minded. So, you have to figure out what it is about music that you like. Where I live, I can only gather that they like listening to poetry, and couldn't care less about the music composition itself.

Sounds like you're getting a good deal. They throw out laptops without batteries or AC cords at electronics stores? I'll have to look into that.
-
Geodood, you are not going to find a fully functional laptop in the 2GHz range for $100. A laptop like Nekofrog's is probably worth just under $100, and then you can replace the battery yourself. A busted battery is hardly a dealbreaker.

You like OCR and you're sick of pop music. Sounds like me. Listen to some dark electronica.

My career path in music and job outlooks O_O
SLyGeN replied to snazzypadgett's topic in General Discussion
Make sure that if you major in music, that it's going to be your career for 100% sure. If you have other hobbies, you might consider going into that field instead since you're not very far in school yet. My dad majored in music composition, but ended up going back to school to study programming. Since he flip-flopped, he didn't get the dream job he was hoping for. When you say you'll probably be poor, even though it's tongue and cheek now, you should still take it into consideration. Not the kind of advice you expected from a musical website, huh? Then again, to be honest, no matter what field you want to get into, there will be people telling you that you're digging your own grave. People tell me there's no work in the audio field (technician stuff), and others tell me that the technology aspect of it is a great aspiration. -
I'll second this notion. ScrewAttack is misconstruing quantity for quality. One thing they did right, though, was not insist on sticking with the original "classic" theme. I was glad to see that the SNES Zelda Overworld got the majority of the segment. I would consider that the best version as far as composition goes. What would be more useful to the internet community, though, would be a top ten music themes list "from games you've never heard of" or something like that.

The Importance of soundtrack for video games...
SLyGeN replied to kriss17388's topic in General Discussion
Music is there to enhance the mood of the setting. The thing is, there is some differentiation between cultures in what feels like what. Asian cultures use the pentatonic scale for their music, including sorrowful pieces. I don't feel it. Harmonic Minor sounds extremely dramatic and evil to me, however in eastern cultures it's a happy-sounding mode. My dad thinks that music incorporating the minor 9th interval is beautiful. I think it's extremely tense, on par with a diminished 5th. I love both intervals, though. -
The Sega Genesis lives! New games coming...
SLyGeN replied to The Coop's topic in General Discussion
Indeed it does. Cheers, and to the rest of you who replied as well. -
That sort of interface bugs me. I'm pretty sure that's the sort of interface most midi sequencers look at (although I don't know for sure). It bugs me because I find myself importing a midi into sheet-writing software, and I see shit like half-notes tied with eighth-notes, followed by eighth rests. So if I want to learn a song, I have to go through and make it all readable by deleting the extra chaff and just making that sucker a dotted half-note. Those are the easier notation errors, too.

From what I remember, most of the reviews about Eternal Darkness praised the aspects that you disparaged. *spoilers* I thought the concept of Mantorok manipulating time (he is a God after all), and the irony that this dying, pathetic entity took every other sentient for a fool, was brilliant. *end spoilers* To be honest, it sounds like you picked up Silent Hill by mistake. I love Silent Hill, too, but I find that game to be extremely clumsy.

I've never really had a problem with Gamestop used equipment/games, so sellers should try to go < or = the retail used price. I believe Setzer Gabbini (sp) wanted to get rid of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. He never got back to me. I have a couple bucks burning a hole in my paypal account that I need to get rid of.

Collector plates are these fancy dinner plates with old folk poems on them, or old folk-like artwork. I had them on Craigslist, but they expired. If anyone has the faintest interest, I'll re-upload images. I'll sell them for ten bucks each OBO. Here's an example, although I do not have this one specifically. The portable phone is a General Electric brand 2.4GHz cordless phone. I'll sell this one at $30 OBO. Information: http://www.amazon.com/27930GE4-Analog-Cordless-Phone-Caller/dp/B00009OKN6 Also, thanks Prophet for organizing these into the first post. If you would be so kind, go ahead and add these two to that list unless you'd like more information. Do keep my random comics up there, too. I'll make a complete list when I feel less lazy. Thanks again. Another edit! I want Fatal Frame! I think it's for PS2.

Isn't there some obscure painting with dogs playing poker? I don't know the name of it. I saw it in Simpsons or something.
