m68030
Metroid 'Space Orchestra' I'm not sure about "Gothic Opera", that's something I'll leave to Saviour Machine.. But McVaffe gives us some interesting minimal spacy noises with hollow cavernous reverb echoing off into the alien worlds below. A nice interlude to stick between two other Metroid mixes on a cd. mDuo13
This one opens up with the Kraid theme played solo on some mysterious kind of wind instrument that sounds fairly electronic, and soon the rest of the creepy and moody effects are in. Small file, large appeal == no reason not to get. NONE! D'ya hear me? Download it! Even if you already have it! (okay, maybe not if you already have it..) jordex
Okay, i'm 2 years behind schedule but whatever, i wanted to see what ppl said about this remix... The original song i know reaaally well, the main melody hasnt been changed in this remix, the background melody has changed but not by alot... not much at all actually. all thats new are some cool electronic sounds and parts mixed around. Theres a cool electronic sound at :56 and the main instrument really fits the metroid atmoshphere... But this song is too short, i was hoping for mcvaffe to really play around with the melody
Soldier
Awesome remix, I love metroid music.....could've been a bit longer though...
Mini Mog
Let me begin by saying I LOVE THIS!!!!! I've been listening to this mix repeatedly, but the first time through I was already smiling like crazy. I knew I had a wonderful addition to my playlist right then and there! Although this is a Metroid mix, it reminds me of playing Galaga on the Atari. Just floating around in space, shooting stuff...those were good times! (But don't let that fool you, it isn't a chiptune or anything like that.) I highly recommend this to any fan of Metroid! You won't be disappointed! AshDragon
Now this song is pretty cool. In the beginning part of the remix, it sounds very old-fashion until you reach 0:15 in the song, an interesting sound slowly creeps up improving the remix greatly. Now you have a nice combo going, then at 0:56, this remix isn't done impressing you, it shows multiple varieties of one of your favorite themes in metroid, combining different sounds and still being recognizable. OceansAndrew
A pretty hypnotic mix, the opening reminds me of a track from final fantasy 7 with that synth. This really needs to be listened to on headphones or high end speakers to catch everything, as this mix is incredibly subtle. Breathy pads join in, as well as pizzicato strings, and a few more filtered synths, all slowly building to a double time section where the energy is increased, but the mood is maintained. The ending is way too abrupt, as it snaps you right out of the trance you were in, but until that point the mix is amazingly effective. Rozovian
Okay, one of my favourites from when the remixes I knew were Metroid ones. It's a great remix. And it's surprisingly old, which makes it even better. While the first synth is really primitive, it fits right in with the crazy calm, or calm crazyness, that this remix induces. Highly recommended. DragonAvenger
Really atmospheric, which I think is the biggest draw in this mix. Not much is changed melodically, but the feel that it creates is refreshing. Definately an enjoyable mix, one that's been in my library for a while now. SoulinEther
My gripes are that it's short and sticks too much to the source. Would have been better if it had been a little longer and uniquer (I think McVaffe himself made a note in that OCR interview about... like.. not expanding upon the great ideas he had?). Makes me feel like I'm in spice. I mean space. Why did I right spice? Write. It's solid, unlike my writing at the momento. ...Moment... Marmiduke
This mix reminds me a lot of the Brinstar Depths arrangement from Super Smash Bros. Melee, and not just because it is melodically identical. I think that both versions of the theme expand on the original mood which the NES couldn't quite master. But that's all I would call this. A good expansion, and since it was made before the Melee track, I appreciate its relevance in relation to the original. Not the most interesting of McVaffe's work, but pretty much anything pales in comparison to the most interesting McVaffe stuff, so it's no big deal. Dj Mokram
I love the Kraid theme from metroid. I could listen to a thousand of its iterations. This one really makes you realize the progress made and the difference in terms of standards here at OCR. So well, let's go back in 2002. The first few notes made me anxious as to what was coming next. Slowly but surely, the other instruments come along and give more texture to the whole. The song conveys a feeling of loneliness, of being lost in space, in a place far far away. We're not talking about the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra here. It's very minimal, and meant to be that way. It's clean, sober, and effective. I guess I like it because it stays very much faithful to the original. So considering my opinion is partly biased, don't hesitate to make up your own. Listen to it. Bahamut
Can't say I was a fan of this back then, and am not now. It's essentially a cover of the original.
TheCD1
Been listening to this track for a long time. May stick close to the original, but the source is great and I've always enjoyed the additional depth this remix adds. 👍👾👍
