Also, I have experimented with a Sonic Rush-style music in the past. Though I know it's not the style everyone doesn't want in Sonic 4, I'm just throwing it out there.

Bear in mind, this was my first and only attempt at emulating Hideki Naganuma's style.

This is a novel concept but...

It would seem to that, while OverClocked ReMix has some extremely talented arrangers, the composition skills of a lot of artist are still kind of uncertain.

Simply put: Sure we know a lot of people here can make sweet remixes, but does that mean they can make a real soundtrack?

Well certainly a lot of people have proven that in the past; Anso, BGC, zircon, amongst other all have professional credits as game composers. That said: if we really want to prove to Sega that OverClocked ReMix has what it takes to compose a soundtrack for a Sonic game...why don't you guys make a soundtrack for a Sonic game?

Now, I'm not talking a big Sonic series remix project or anything like that, I'm talking about everyone gets together and makes a soundtrack to fictitious Sonic game. Like just say I want to write the music for Underwater Temple Zone. Or Neon Metro Zone. Or Jungle Safari Zone. Or Toxic Desert Zone. Or Techno Carnival Zone. And write what kind of music you would expect to hear in that stage if it were a real sonic game.

This would be a sort of demo reel, and honestly sounds like ti'd be a fun little ORIGINAL project.

...I'd do it if I could :|

And let's not forget that a lot of people generally have varying styles. So figuring out how we can make sure that each song doesn't sound completely different than the next will be a challenge.

 This is exactly like the discussion we had in #ocremix with naysayers Upthorn and Starblast. You guys are all assuming that if we got a gig like this, we'd just throw something together with no thought or planning. With a talent pool like the one here it would be no problem to get people who can all write in a similar style and use the same exact tools. Happens all the time in games like Mass Effect 2, for example.

... You know that we've been doing this in CMC for quite a while now, right? :P

Indeed. It's difficult to start anything about making tracks as long as OCremix doesn't know if SEGA would consider the request anyway it could be possible.

Chances are there are going to be a hil zone, a water or ice zone some sort of metal city area and of course at least 2 boss themes.

It's almost 100% guaranteed there will be a casino stage. Sega loves casinos. They add a casino/city night life area into most of their games. Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Rush, Phantasy Star Universe, and even F-Zero GX are just a few off the top on my head. I'm sure there are more too.

...Eh I'm not so sure this is a great idea.

Unlike SFII HD where it made sense to have a bunch of different people because the soundtrack was being rearranged, the standard here would be for original music and would need to maintain a level of coherency throughout the game. Personally I think soundtracks like this are more suited for one composer or a small team that works closely on it.

I guess if you can find a way to make it work. I'm just not so sure the sonic community, whom this game at least seemed like a halfass attempt to target, is going to like the idea of this though, particularly with their opinions towards OCR in general. I personally would want Naofumi Hataya to compose the soundtrack but from what we've already seen thats not happening.

If you look at the cohesion in some of the albums OCR has released, you know this is feasible.

Most of the said cohesion I've seen was from multiple tracks\collabs of the same artists. Of course I've only listened to a handful of the projects so I can't say I'm educated enough on the subject.

Just listen to Kong in Concert, and all fears will be gone.

DKiC was one of the first projects released though. And with the specific intention of being a fluid continuation from the first to the last track, unlike many of the projects that came out after.

It'd be cool if at least some artists from here would get to create the tracks but I'm not keeping my hopes up.

man why do all the 2d games with 3d models have that annoying "new super mario bros" syndrome where when you jump its so incredibly slow and floaty

did these guy play ANY of the old sonic games???

I downloaded one of those ocremix complete Sonic (2? Knuckles?) remixes and it had some really sucky tracks. I guess I just don't like "remixes" because when I hear a slow orchestrated piece I just don't think of Sonic the Hedgehog and I continue on to the next track that I hope sounds more like something I would expect from a Sonic game.

I can only hope they have Sega Japan do the music.
