Blake
So the audition is a 3 minute write up of the main theme? Is it the same song as when you fight lavos? Because if it is, I'm totally digging it. I'll submit an audition as soon as possible. I love orchestral writing, and always wanted to do an orchestral chrono trigger project. I've waited, and I'm glad you made this. Thanks, and be expecting something.
zircon
I know when I'm beat. I have absolutely no artistic ideas, nor do I have any skill in writing this sort of thing. No promise whatsoever in what I currently have. I'm truly sorry to hear that. I could still use somewhere to host the music files and also someplace to make an official website, if you have any extra room on the ST server. Also, I know you have teh madd connectionz with people on ST, so a bit of advertising would be a welcome addition, though I don't want to force you into anything. Unfortunately, I don't have much extra space on ST.. and I can't really advertise there because it's rather dead while it's being redesigned. Sorry I wish I could work on this project, but I'm just not good enough.

SirRus
dang this is one of the cooler thematic threads I have seen. I wish I could orchestrate, but yeah I won't even pretend like I know the first thing about it. The musicians you have lined up so far will no doubt provide some very high quality stuff (see if you can get Jeremy Robson too, cause yeah, wow...) Can't wait to hear what comes of this project. Claado Shou
To answer your questions... So the audition is a 3 minute write up of the main theme? Is it the same song as when you fight lavos? Download the soundtrack, and it's the first and second songs on the OST, "Presentiment" and "Chrono Trigger". The soundtrack has a link in the first post. Unfortunately, I don't have much extra space on ST.. and I can't really advertise there because it's rather dead while it's being redesigned. Sorry. I wish I could work on this project, but I'm just not good enough. Wow, double ouch. That's okay though...I'm sure if the project takes off, it wouldn't be too hard to find webspace. Thanks anyway. Either way, I hope you watch what other people are doing, and keep involved (at least as a watcher) in the project. Your advice would be appreciated. The musicians you have lined up so far will no doubt provide some very high quality stuff (see if you can get Jeremy Robson too, cause yeah, wow...) Thank you for the kind words. But about the second part of your post...let's just say that Mr. Robson is indisposed when it comes to this project.

Claado Shou
Alright...I've given it a lot of thought, and I think I've finally made up my mind. DRUMSETS ARE ALLOWED. My reasoning is that it'll be impossible to do a truly CT-style battle theme without the use of normal drums, and if one type of song can use it, why not the others? Just be forewarned...the songs should not be drum-driven. Instrumentation is still incredibly important. So there.
sephfire
First off, sweet project concept Claado has come up with here. I'm really looking forward to hearing the final result. I'll get to work on my audition piece, though synth-free orchestration is a bit new to me. I would argue that certain limited synth work be allowed as (from what I understand) some of our greatest modern film composers use them to reinforce the orchestra, such as Hans Zimmer ("The Last Samurai," "The Lion King," etc.): my film composing god. However, he uses it VERY subtely and I can easily see synth work getting out of hand here so I'll respect your call on this. As for drum kits, I believe you can get fantastic battle music without utilizing any type of rock or electronic-style percussion. Take the "Pirates of the Caribbean" OST (my all-time favorite film OST). All traditional bass drum, timpani, etc. but it still packs a great punch. Of course, if that's what you meant by drum sets, than disregard this whole paragraph. ^^ I'd love to take/collaborate on a battle theme if possible. ^^ ....aw, we lost zircon? boooooo.... Claado Shou
Oh, did I forget to mention, also, that collaboration pieces are allowed? Not in the audition stage, of course, but definitely in the mixing stage. Collaborations would be amazing. What I mean by 'drumsets' is the typical drum setup that you'll see in any modern-day band. Several toms, cymbals, kickdrum, etc. etc. All of that is allowed. You can thank Destiny and zyko's amazing song "Into the Deep" for that particular addition. Also, I used to own the Pirates of the Caribbean OST, but I've since lost it, and I'd like to know where Hans Zimmer used synths. That would be interesting to look at. ALSO: DarkeSword, all of those orchestral pieces you listed...any of them quality enough to use as an audition piece? As long as you provide a visual, that'd be cool. sephfire
I'm sorry, I'm SURE you explained this somewhere and I just missed it, but could you explain what you mean by supplying a "visual" along with our work?

Well I just posted those to own Piejacked, but I guess Blue Skies Over Guardia (the very last one, I think) is pretty evocative and self-explainatory. Just think about walking into Leene Square and seeing all of the amazing things that the fair has to offer, on a beautiful, cloudless day. I could probably still work on an audition piece, if you want.
Claado Shou
Example: 0:00-0:34 -- the camera pans over the world of Chrono Trigger, as birds fly by and balloons lift off from the Millennial Fair. The many villages of the Zenan/Guardia peninsula are in full view. The music for this would be very relaxed, very calm. 0:35 -- the camera zooms quickly down into the plains of Guardia, a ground-level view. The music for this would be a fast arpeggio that transitions into a more upbeat section. 0:36-1:45 -- the camera zooms through the plains, passing over various features of the terrain as people are shown (intermittently) going about their daily lives, while credits continue. The music for this would be very fast-paced and powerful. 1:46-2:20 -- the camera goes into the sky again and takes another look around, watching the reflections of clouds in the water, looking over Guardia Castle. The music for this would be a cool-down, very soft and instrumental. 2:21-2:55 -- the camera would zoom over the water, under the bridge, delving into the ocean and then coming back up into the sky for a final look around. The music for this would be very upbeat once again. 2:56-3:00 -- the camera comes to Crono's room, positioning itself on the main character therein. The music for this would be the string section fading out, the closing for the opening cinematic. That's an example of what I meant. Describe the cinematic, as well as time periods described. I think we just found our Millennial Fair piece remake. The only problem would be the piano-type thing in there, which could be replaced by strings quite easily. And you're right, it does explain its visual by itself. Otherwise, one track out of 25 has been already created. This also means, DarkeSword, that you're accepted. Congratulations. Your Good Twin
Well, I want to say I think you should leave the modern style drumsets out. Once again, this is sideline talk since I won't be remixing, but I really think it would take a lot away from the John Williams style symphonic soundtrack. I think sephfire is right, good fast paced battle music can be done without drumsets. Just think of all the battles from John Williams scored movies! Star Wars alone would be great reference.
