orkybash Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 Zelda II 'Temple Trippin'' Well, I guess this isn't a bad mix, but it really doesn't stand out - nothing to incredible or even memorable about it. It's short though, which in this case is good - I think this remix would have been much worse if it had been drug out. But overall, unless you're desperate for Zelda 2 Temple mixes, I would move on to a different song. Quote
Straziante Posted December 1, 2002 Posted December 1, 2002 This was a nice little jam, but nothing to write home about. Simplicity is a good thing sometimes, and it worked wonders for this song. The already-complex palace theme would really hurt if tampered with too much, so LaRux keeps on the safe side by sticking to the original, yet thumping out some nice trip-hop beats. If you like the original, and you like a good bass drum rhythm, check this out. If you're looking for a big, complicated remix, look elsewhere. If you're in the mood to bob your head to a nice little beat, this is recommended. Quote
Blue_Drac Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 This mix is good for the fans of the original sound track. It's more of an updating of the original score from the chiptune to something with a little more meat to it. It's good, but not great. 3/5 Quote
OceansAndrew Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Plays it really safe and comes across as mostly a sound upgrade. It's a good song, but I would have wished that more had been done besides add the drums. I like the bass drum sound, but am not terribly fond of the snare. Quote
Chickenwarlord Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 This is not worth the download. This theme has been covered by other artists, and they have done a better job with it. There is nothing eyebrow raising about the arrangement and the sound is pretty spot on a soundfonted original. It seems like the song wants to go just a bit faster than it was programmed. Quote
Rozovian Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Nowadays, this wouldn't have passed, for a number of reasons. Too much of a cover+drums, arrangement-wise hasn't left the NES era. Would be interesting to see what the remixer would do today, tho, as this seems like a first attempt, a MIDI copy with drums, and that was ages ago. Quote
DragonAvenger Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Definately very coverish, kind of surprising that it's here at all. I still enjoyed listening to it, but aside from the drums I couldn't hear anything original. Sounds are aged, especially the snare sample. Not my favorite, but not the worst thing I've heard either. Quote
Dhsu Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I couldn't help but chuckle a little when this remix came up on Ormgas. It's pretty much just strings and drums! Ah well, I guess it was at least something before all these other awesome Temple arrangements came out. Quote
Dafydd Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 This is about as simplistic and minimalistic as it gets. It's more or less a sound upgrade too. I like it, but I think it would sound better with some stronger bass and kick. Quote
Lint Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 This mix is really bare-bones. It's a very simple and stylistic remake of the original track. It's a fun piece that I really enjoy listening to. Quote
Bahamut Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 This sounds incredibly coverish. And at 1:36, there's not really much of an expectation of anything else, which is validated when one listens to the whole thing. I'm surprised this passed the lockdowns to be honest. Quote
ella guro Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Bahamut has got this. Pretty much a straight cover, with maybe a few subtle additions (the drum track, some kind of distant bass). I don't think it's even that good of a cover, to be honest. Quote
Rexy Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 I'm kind of shaky about this as well. Aside from the drum progression (which I admit has some good writing once it gets going) and the panned strings at the end, this is practically a note for note adaptation for the original with very little else going on. I could think it barely survived the lockdowns for the very few changes slipped in, so on that note I'm not really too thrilled about this one Quote
