Navi Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Reminds me of some of the Pixies instrumental tracks. I like this a lot - not something I would ever expect from JJT, though. I'm a big alt rock/garage fan, so I dig this. I'd like to see more of this style from JJT; he has a great grasp of the sound/style. Maybe some (more) vocal collabs with Vig? Quote
MaxFrost Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 sweet arrangement JJT... ....I'd say something bad...but besides a lack of lows....great tune... Quote
Nigel Simmons Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 The percussion should be simplified. There are WAY WAY too many fills where there shouldn't be in the beginning. It just sounds like the drummer's showing off. I can see the intent of the mix, but I really don't like the production/recording. It's confused. Quote
Dafydd Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 There's no drummer. I agree on the rest of what you said though. Quote
ktriton Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Friggin' awesome work! I'd have like to hear the drums a little less in the mix though. Still, great, great work! Probably my favorite by you. Rock on. Quote
Holy Warrior Azar Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 So this is what finally became of those Mute Fusion WIP's from vgmix. I think the last version was the third and that was in April or May of 2004 (I think). I'm glad to see it turned out so well. This is cool stuff. Quote
EvilHorde Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Yay. I like it! Its a great tune and theres something very appealing on the production. PUNCHY. AND. CRISPY. The energy of the song is awesome. And I really like the "garage" approach. Sounds COOOOOOL. Thanks! Quote
Reasoner Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 My God! Where is my copy of F-Zero because this song has brought me back into that 16bit, mode-7 goodness! Quote
Radiowar Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Sounds like Sonic Youth if they traded in Steve Shelley for Matt Tong (Bloc Party's drummer). The guitar sounds almost shoegazer-ish. Maybe the drum levels could've been balanced better. Doesn't bother me though. Great mix! Quote

I was actually trying to model the drumming after William Goldsmith (Sunny Day Real Estate / Foo Fighters / The Fire Theft), but I'll still take that as a compliment. Quote
progressive Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Hands down one of the best I've heard. Preserves the nostalgia while managing to be completely kick-ass. Quote

They have sort of similar styles I guess. Matt Tong is slightly more...mechanical I guess. Either way, the drumming kicks ass. Quote
Crabsmasher Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I like this mix, it seems like one that will get better everytime I listen to it. I am not surprised JJT was made a judge Quote
PlastikBag Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I absolutely love the arrangement. Different stuff from Jon. The production was a bit weird at first, but it grew on me. Sick drums! Quote
fivre Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Yay for a finished Mute Fusion. Now we just need a finished Magnet Man. Quote
Genoism Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 nice great mix man, love the beat and everything! Quote

Citan Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 I liked this remix, and it makes me want to look into other Mute City remixes, too. Quote

Yeah, I actually thought of Foo Fighters' drums when I listened to this. That's a good thing. I personally thought that the drums were the best part of this mix. I wish people would turn up the volume on the drums more often. Quote
Jack the Ripper Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Oh god, this is great. Just suits my mood perfectly. Thank you so damn for this song. Quote
OceansAndrew Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 I really wasn't sure about the mixing at first, but it grew on me. The drumming really is a highlight. Well done. The texturing on the guitars was also really nice. Quote
Sinewav Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Quick question though... did the lead guitar at the beginning seem to be playing to a different rhythm at first? Maybe it was just me. Anywho, not a bad thing. It grew on me after a while. Quote
