Arek the Absolute Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 So how are the spambots now? Considering that it is more than a year later, I am sure that the bot issue has been handled for the most part. oh you and your thread necromancy Quote
Liontamer Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Considering that it is more than a year later, I am sure that the bot issue has been handled for the most part. You think so? Quote
Arek the Absolute Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Well, there is always one that slips through the cracks every now and then, but it isn't nearly as bad as it was before the forum switch. Quote
Doulifée Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Wait, isn't Larry a bot? an admin bot... a page of history in the intarnet. btw i saw 2 bot threads last week. Quote
Shadow Wolf Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 an admin bot... a page of history in the intarnet.btw i saw 2 bot threads last week. Nah, those weren't bot threads, they were Atomic Dog threads. The difference can be subtle. Quote
Ramaniscence Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Larry, you're bein' a real jerk today; A REAL piece of work. Ya'know that? You're out of control. Quote

I think it's important for us to remember that SOMETIMES, some crime WILL slip through the tracks, but these two, gumshoes, are pickin' up the slack. Quote

Geoffrey Taucer Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Can we do something about this spammer? Fuckin' cockeater. Quote
Bahamut Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Damn, this thread made me remember staying up till 4 am alone combating the bots before giving up and going to sleep, and waking up to find massive bot spam still undeleted despite a bunch of mods going at it. Quote
Shadow Wolf Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 waking up to find massive bot spam Some people have a morning wood. Bahamut wakes up with bot spam. Quote
Fritz the Cat Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Poor bastard. I mean, at least you can do something with morning wood... Quote
SoloGamer Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Some people have a morning wood. Bahamut wakes up with bot spam. Hopefully it isn't related to the bot fly Quote
Airwalker Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Managing a small forum of my own, I have recently found the best method of removing spammers is to have a little text prompt during registration. Like, a required field where you must answer a simple question like "What is 1+5?" and "Type the word cat". If you have enough of them and they vary widely, but are simple enough not to frustrate noobies, then you can really stop a lot of the new automated spammers that can read those captchas. I've seen spam on my site drop from 2-30 a day to 0. And I've seen spam registration drop from about 8 a day to 0. It's only been 2 weeks, so I'm not sure if somebody will bother to crack my questions. Quote

Rozovian Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Reviving this thread cuz I can't go on irc and might as well make a spambot report thread out of this one. http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=596072#post596072 http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=596006#post596006 They're getting smarter, quoting the site and members... but they can't resist advertising tattoo removal in their sigs. DarkeSword Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Thank you. Links to member pages--not posts/threads--are better. Quote
Rozovian Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Yeah, but I thought it was best to show the posts so I don't set a precedent where ppl can arbitrarily report each other as spambots. All it takes is for an admin to have a bad day and forget to check. Just wanted you to see the proof. Quote
