m68030 Posted June 4, 2002 Posted June 4, 2002 Legend of Zelda 'Essential Links' The reverbing on the drum lines causes a constant hiss from the higher bits. The rest of the remix is a simple synth cover of the classic Zelda theme song, backed by a simple bass line, and later a timpani support line. Nothing too fancy. Quote
Jean Of mArc Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 Hmmm... Simple old-style instruments doing the Zelda theme. It's cute, but not the cure to writer's block or anything. Average at best. Quote
Synth Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 Back in the day OCR must of had low standards for there mixes. This is alright. 2/5 Quote
HumpteeFree Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 I don't take this remix would make it today. Sweet to the ear, but I don't find it creative enough, too repetitive and close to the original. Quote
Royal Sovereign Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 This mix should be subtitled "or, Link Does Electroclash." For some reason this tune is so dead-on reminiscent of Ladytron and Felix da Housecat one can't help but wonder if it would do well in a New York club. Good stuff! Quote
kalizar Posted August 17, 2004 Posted August 17, 2004 Wow, whoever made this song is good on a keyboard. I really like it. Quote
Cheeszeman_ Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 hmm... i remember the times when i used to play this game and sing along to the music... heh i also remember the times when i used to sing just the music.... wait, that was yesterday..... oh well! i often found that video game music was sometimes better than 'real' songs.... oh well, i like it... its simple, but simples good! Quote
Marin Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Very simplistic. But it's still catchy. Not much variation from the orginal theme. 6/10 Quote
linkwolf Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 very cool i'm saveing this to my favorites list.zelda rules Quote
Nineko Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 ZELDA music is great. This remix is quite simple, has a ridiculous reverb, and the EQ is bad. But it's all good. Quote
OceansAndrew Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Not feeling this one, too much cheese and not enough arrangement for me. Sorry. Quote
Marmiduke Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Wow, I'm stymied at how this made it through two lockdowns. This is as boring a remix as I can imagine. It's the Zelda theme, identically preserved in a formula of dated, by-the-numbers electro work. It may well have been my cup of tea back in the day of OCR's beginning, but this is just boiled water for me now. Shame there wasn't anything interesting in here at all. I hate giving 100% negative reviews. Quote
DragonAvenger Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 This is pretty much cover material. With drums. Not doing it for me, sorry. Quote
Bahamut Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 This looks like almost the definition of midirip action with a beat layered on top. Quote
duskvstweak Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I like this. One of the charms of older OCR submissions is the simpler take on some songs. I like that you can take a good idea and just perfect it on a smaller level without blowing everyone's mind all the time. Quote
MechaFone Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Ah, one of the old classics. It doesn't stick out much, what with the advances in remixes today. Still, it's nice to hear it now and then. Nice, nostalgic classicy goodness. Quote
Crulex Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Yep, I see what we have here, and I pretty much have to just leave it as a nice sounding almost midi mix. Not that I care, I like simple midi mixes sometimes, but that's what it seems to be and I'll just leave it at that. Quote
