  1. Wooo, someone actually replies to me \o/ Thanks for taking some time I can definitely see the flaws you're talking about at the beginning, as I record classical guitar through a simple mic. Sadly I can't really fix my equipment issue, that's why I mainly do MAO music. It's hard for me to figure out the problem once the guitar disappear though :/ I think you've got a better ear and experience than me. But that's what I'm looking for! Thanks again.

  2. Nice, very atmospheric track! I really like the pad-guitars coming in at 1:48, it lifts the whole thing to a higher level by adding that ethereal quality. The huge bass-saw that underlies the entire track is, well huge, especially in combination with those hand drums. Maybe the kick could be less harsh and clicky though, it feels like it isn't as much part of the mix as it should/could be. It has tons of impact for sure, but that actually distracts me from the push and shove of the rest of the instruments. Somehow, it's fighting over attention with the bass rather than working together with it. Maybe it has a lot of sub bass frequencies itself which coincide with the bass? Not sure about that though. Apart from that, very nice track, the menacing vibe has me bouncing my head!

  4. It's the perceived acoustics of the room due to the recording equipment itself. I've never recorded through a "multi-effect pedal", but it sounds like that would do it. Ideally you should try to record the guitar direct-input and digitally process the recording in your DAW later. That way it's a more accurate representation of what you played. Recording the drums would be harder to get right, since you could either mic each drum kit component individually or the whole kit at once. Or, you could use a sample library like Steven Slate Drums or Groove Bias Drums with a sampler like Kontakt 5. I'd rather not get too much into it though because that's not what this topic is for.

  5. Hey guys! So far what I've seen/heard in this thread has been so good! The entire concept of OCRemix is so cool to me. As one of the organizers for NWM8 I wanted to share a little bit about our event and what sets it apart from other events. We've always had a bit of an emphasis on the games in our local community that really show up and put in the work to get people involved and generate hype for their games, even if they're not the most conventionally "big" titles at other majors. While games like SFV and XRD are of course staples, we are showing love to the rest of our strong anime community; from Blazblue to Persona, to being one of the only majors with a strong Skullgirls presence (we have players flying across the country for JUST that game), a consistently high level Tekken bracket every year, and love for some of the classics like Vampire Savior, GG+R, and more. Anything you guys want to play with and send our way is great and we love and appreciate it so much. Hopefully that bit of info gives those on the fence or unsure about which communities will really feel the work you put into a remix a little inspiration to create at will. Much love from the NW <3

  6. Keith Emerson was, for my money, the best keyboardist ever. His command of the instrument and harmonic interplay was ahead of its time. Tarkus in particular is something to just be in awe of. Plus, such an influence on so many famous musicians, including ones within the VGM community. A more monumental loss than I think most people will realise.

  7. There's a difference between what a teenager is actually interested in and is able to handle vs. what an adult is allowed to show them. It's one thing to recommend a good anime to a teen, it's another thing to run a club and show it to them, and be liable for it. That's why the caution is needed here.

  8. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dragonball or Dragonball Z considering their continued popularity both here and in Japan. It's also more appropriate for children, especially the cut/censored US releases. The main problem is that your target age range is more likely to be adventurous and find anime on their own, especially given how Crunchyroll gives easy access to the stuff. I teach middle school and many of my kids have definitely seen stuff that I would consider highly inappropriate for their age.

Every time someone uses the word atmosphere to describe my remix, take a drink. But seriously, great round and congrats Kat. Your remix was very creative and with just a little fine-tuning I think it would be worth sending to the judges. Nice submissions all around, and I'm glad to see my crazy idea for Round 50 paid off.

  11. Wow, that sounds cool! I heard a WIP of Jorito's remix and it's sounding incredible now. Who did the whistling? Pl511's one sounds like Fire Emblem music haha, pretty nice. A shame my mix isn't in that list but I guess it's my fault for sitting on the 99% finished line for so long haha.
