PaRappa the Rapper: "Believe" EP (RECRUITING)
begoma reacted to Cole Train for a topic
Parappa The Rapper EP Project Director: Cole Train (Blacimar) Artist(s): [Needed] Web Designer: [Needed] Trailer: [Wanted] Project Overview Sheet So, Parappa the Rapper! It's great, and I love the cheesy music in that game. But there isn't much representation of it on this site, which I find weird given that it in a way invented the rhythm game genre as it is. But I'm out to give the game the treatment it deserves with this EP. The idea of this project is simple and something original for OCRemix. I'm planning for this to be an album composed of only vocal remixes. Hip hop/rap and R&B vocal remixes at that. No album on Overclocked (that I know of) has done either of those, and probably for good reason. Vocal remixes are for certain hated by some, but given the game that this is, in my eyes it would be criminal if this wasn't a full force hip hop album. So What's Needed? Well, as you can see above, we need the normal jazz for albums: An artist for one of those amazing album covers, a web designer to, well, design the website for the album to be hosted on, and someone to make a trailer for the album. Other than that, we of course need our music artists, who I'm gonna be checking in with and be in contact with, who are going to remix eight tracks from the game. If you want to claim a track, reply to this thread, pm, or email (nathanocole@gmail.com) me expressing interest, describing what you wanna do with the track of your choice (as in style and idea). Singers, those who play an instrument(s), vocalists, and other rappers who don't claim a track who aren't in a group/cooperation for a track will be put in the collaborators section along with their skill. Just reply to this thread or pm/email me expressing interest with previous work if you want to be a collaborator. From there, artists working on their track could reach out to you to get you on. Tracks Remember folks, diverse styles of hip hop are encouraged, so don't be afraid to let your creativity let loose. Any subgenre of hip hop, from jazz hop, gangsta rap, rap metal, trap, and anything in between is fair game. WIP deadlines will be discussed at a later time, but I have no deadline for the EP to be out. Take the time to make sure you're 200 percent satisfied with your tracks I say. If you show to me a lack of effort or care on your part to me though, I won't hesitate to drop you from the project, be mindful of that. Also if you have an idea for one of the smaller tracks from the game that aren't listed below (Maybe you got a mean idea for Jet Baby, I dunno), contact me about that as well. Remixes of those could be added. Maybe we could call this an album at some point instead of an EP (wishful thinking, I know). Hey evktalo, I've never heard the source song before so it's new to me, and I'm listening to your most recent mix only (2016/04/15), but here's some of my thoughts. I like the way the mix starts, with the introductory synth sounding compressed and then gradually increasing in clarity. The first 22 seconds or so I found kind of static, perhaps because the lead synth (sounds sort of mallet-like) is hitting a lot of the same notes/intervals in sequence and I feel like I'm waiting for things to pick up and get more interesting. I also find the transition at 0:28 to get a bit uncomfortably loud and crunchy, but that might be personal preference (struck me as a bit jarring). But things pick up at 30 seconds. I enjoyed the synth lead that comes in at 0:41 quite a bit, it's got a good timbre and I especially like the two ascending pitch-bends at 0:55. Everything melody-wise from 0:30 to 1:24 I found fairly engaging, but I think one of the issues with this section is that the percusion is very same-y and seems repetitious. It ends up being about a minute of not much rhythmic change, which undermines some of the melodic variation and makes the section seem more homogenous than it is. 2:15 - 2:30 also has percussion that is reminiscent of this part and seems to have the same problem. The breakdown at 1:24 is a good change of pace and I enjoyed it. But it's repeated later at 2:30 in a very similar way, which lessens the impact of it the second time. The piece also ends in a way that's not particularly satisfying, it seems abrupt and it's at the end of a section that isn't much different from what we've already heard before. I think 2:30 up until the end of the song should go in a more distinct direction, and conclude in a way that gives the listener a sense of completion. Also: in general there's a lot of neat synth accents that add good color to the song: for instance the supporting rising notes at 0:50, 1:05 (this one is faint and almost flute-like and was a nice touch), and 2:14. These kept up my interest and seemed to stand out appropriately in the mix.1 point -

I like it. Definitely gives off the vibe you were trying to convey. Can imagine this in a JRPG more than anything. Somehow it reminds me of Baten Kaitos.1 point -

Thanks to OA and PlanarianHugger for helping in having a proper final round, with a final battle and a nice closing track, I dig that a lot! Interesting too see OA's take on the final round so different from mine, with different sources and a different mood1 point -

OCR02499 - Final Fantasy VII "Death, Rebirth, Life - 1986"
djpretzel reacted to eggsngaming for a topic
Wow, very refreshing to hear a mix of JENOVA that isn't fast tempo techno/trance (nothing against it, it just seemed difficult to dissociate the source from the genre). Changing to 80s synth pop certainly gives it a bouncier, walking-down-the-street vibe as opposed to the intense, dramatic flavor of the original. If you asked me to remix a song from FF7 in the style of mid-tempo 80s pop, this wouldn't have been my first choice. Credit that to Anti-Syne for having the creativity to make it happen.1 point -

Hope you guys enjoy the mix when the album releases. To my surprise there aren't many Chemical Plant Zone remixes that aren't "technomanga" so I went for a funkier/rock approach.1 point -

That's a FF NES trilogy thang Hi. I am editing in a little something here I wanted to say. Shortly after announcing this project, a facebook friend informed me that there was another FF8 album coming out soon from a different group of people. I guess I was told as a warning, perhaps because there'd be some conflict between that album and this one. I told him I didn't see it that way and I don't. I don't mean any offense to the other project, I'm sure it will have some great stuff on it, however... looking at the claims list here, I know these people. I've heard of them, I've heard their work and I know that a high level of quality will be attained with this album. So looking past the obvious thing of OCR album releases being really top notch with websites, artwork, trailers, etc... we'll still have that edge of the increased quality control, but through the project process and through the evaluation / submissions panel. I'm not "denouncing" anything. I'm going to check out that "other" album, even though I think it's going to cost money. I'm not going to buy it. But I'll preview some of it. If you were involved with that album and chose to contribute here too, that is awesome. I appreciate every artist who has signed on here for the love of the soundtrack and love of working on music in general. If I could pay you guys I would (looking at the list of claims, I'd have to be damn rich to give each person what they deserve). I am glad that your passion surpasses the idea of a measly percentage of a percentage of sales. So that's it. I didn't know about it, now I do, but it doesn't change anything, and I hope none of you are discouraged either. We'll show the world what a real FF8 album sounds like, and OCR's release package will be a thing of beauty.1 point
