  1. This was my first attempt at original music almost a year ago. I want to remaster it, and would appreciate any outside critiques that my biased ears are probably tuning out. Thanks for the listen!

  2. Hello everyone! I started working on this a few years back after finishing Sword of Mana, but I never finished it, because my computer could not handle it anymore. It was almost finished for 2 years. New PC, a bit of free time (a few days getting all my plugins to work again), and here I come! Featured tracks, in order of apparition : Seeking the Holy Sword GBA version / GameBoy version Investigation of recollection GBA version (exclusive) Crumbling World GBA Version (exclusive) Final Battle GBA version / GameBoy version I was going for a straightforward power metal track with a few orchestral / classical elements and a lot of guitar and keyboard solos, in a style inspired by band I listened to in the mid 2000 such as Stratovarius, Rhapsody of Fire, Sonata Arctica, etc... I'm open to any sort of feedback. I have my doubts regarding drums writing and guitar articulation (mostly in the first solos and the intro riff), as well as mixing and mastering. Plus I listened to the old version regularly for years, and the recent changes I made, while necessary, are still alien to me, so a pair of fresh ears or two would be welcome! (you can also listen to it too if you have an odd number of ear(s)) Clocking at just above 7min, I know it's a fairly long track, but if you like old school symphonic power metal and/or Sword of Mana, you should have a good time! (no refund though) Here is the track! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xYGQNcIBv3IJFUHAyTObQgBRuAZ_05X4/view?usp=sharing I sure hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do! Thank you for listening, and have a great day! Edit: Passing in Ready for Review, because the more I listen to it, the more I believe this is finished and ready to be submitted. Prove me wrong mods! ^^ Edit2: More than 1k views in 5 days? Wow

  5. Julien! Good to hear your work here again. This thing takes the listener by storm, gives me a combination of vibes from Mega Man X and Tales of Symphonia (is that weird? That's kinda weird.) Stellar performance. You did good with those variating segments (organs, harpsichords, oh my!), it nicely breaks up the soundscape of the guitars and synths. Perhaps it is an element of the genre, but I wonder if it may be beneficial to try changing the guitar's sound through the piece, as it is fairly consistent all the way through (the actual timbre, not performance. I like the performance.) The mid-high favoring lead is slammin, but it does hang around that mid-high for most of the piece. Maybe there's a segment that could do well with a lower tone (drop an octave, EQ the 'tar to favor more towards the mid for a part, something like that.) Of course, I'm about as much an authority on guitars as Aristotle was. Still an awesome piece, go get yourself a milkshake. Or smoothie or something.

  6. Aw, thanks! I was experimenting with reverb back in these days, hence the echoing glock (and half of the other instruments.) I was playing Radiant Historia at the time, and it's soundtrack goaded me to try something a little cosmic.

  7. This reminds me of some stuff during the PS2 and GameCube era. Kind of has a Wild Arms meets Xenogears vibe. There's a lot of applications for this tune. You should slap it on Unity or something and make a few bucks off it. Whether you position yourself as premium content or low shelf content is up to you. Couldn't tell if the tune is loopable or not, but I think it won't be too hard to do if not. As for the production quality, I think it's mixed OK, and the articulations are at least mid-tier indie game quality. Those bells are especially good. (edits)

  8. Hey there HoboKa! I'm not familiar with the source, but I like your remix energy! You already pointed out the obvious, but to get it out of the way, the track is not finished, it just two loops of the main arrangement, and it just stop abruptly. It needs I find the choir stab in the first half of the theme (0:05 to 0:31) to be too in your face. Mostly those on the second beats of each measure. But I love the choir you use ^^ Is it a Roland patch? I swear I have the same "Doo Doo DAAH" patches on my Roland keyboards! During that section you also just hold the same note/chord all along. It might be a personal thing, but I don't like it, it's giving to much tension for my taste. It makes me feel the section is in a kind of statis, and is not getting forward as it should. Still on the same section, you could throw more variation in the main melody, as it's being repeated 3 times in a very similar way. Overall, maybe the lead is a bit too much in front, mostly on the later parts of the theme. And when looping, the intro part between 0:59 and 1:01 feels suddenly very empty. It's not a bad thing per say. You could elaborate on it a bit more to give a nice breathing room in a very intense remix. That's my thoughts, hope you'll find them useful! Have a great day!

  9. you're keeping the budget low so there's only so much you can do, really. i would definitely recommend a case that has front and back fans (front pull, back push) to keep air moving, but it doesn't need to be a complex decision past that. pick one with good reviews that doesn't complain about quality and you'll be fine. as for the motherboard, you need a mobo that supports your CPU and has at least one pci-express x16 3.0 slot and two fan headers. if you need wifi you'd need an uncovered pci slot as well probably (uncovered means that the gfx card isn't going to cover it up). the rest is pretty standard. in general i prefer msi motherboards these days but use asrock and gigabyte as needed based on prices and features.

  10. Marvelous rendition, indeed. I recognized the Shinobi reference before reading the write-up. That is because I'm a total Sega freak.

  11. First off, gotta say that the SFX at the beginning was pretty interesting. Nice tropical/Latin jazz, which is one of the few kinds of jazz I can stand for a while, which is good considering that this is more than eight minutes long. And making an eight minute song that doesn't get dull halfway through is a feat in itself. I really enjoyed the slower part where the drums took over. Great solos and great ReMix overall.

  12. Producing an 8+ min long remix without it getting repetitive is hard work, but you managed to pull it off; there's so much going on and so much variation, it's incredible. At the same time, it's very relaxing stuff. And I agree, we need more remixes like this one on the site.

  13. Heck yes! This is incredible! I love the source 'Passing Breeze', and the arrangement is so fantastic and enjoyable to listen to. Easily one of my favorites, although I echo the sentiment that I expected a more epic ending. Regardless, this is fantastic, and I love the atmosphere and attention to detail. Great stuff.

  14. This is a very nice. :] I love all the site's wonderful iterations of Passing Breeze, but my one quibble - that they were all too short - isn't present when listening to Juan's work. What love and energy you poured into 8 + minutes, man! I hope it gives you great joy to know that this is pure sonic bliss, built for cruising anytime, anywhere. Can't wait for summer to load this on the radio

  15. I agree completely I feel like this is one of those songs I will listen to for a long time to come and keep finding new things about it. It's one of the great things of 7+ minute songs, you can't experience it all in just one listen. It takes several listens to really understand how much effort went into it, and that's the mark of a great musician to me!

  16. Holy crap. This is amazing. One or two iffy samples, but thats the minority, the sequencing and mixing are great, and the arrangement is fantastic. One of the best mixes i've ever heard ocr produce. This mix being overshadowed by zircons mix is a shame imo, particularly for a debut mix of this quality. Download this now, it really isn't to be missed.

  17. Awesome music... 8 minutes of amazing nostalgia Btw, in the beginning there is a Brazilian music playing just after the 8bit music, am I right? I'm from Brazil and I swear I heard something like "bom dia pra quem é de bom dia" Searching Google... the song name is Boa Noite, from Maculêlê, Capoeira music

  18. One of my favorite remixes ever, the sequencing and attention to detail in the arrangement is astounding. We need more stuff like this on the site!

  20. wow! really good arrangement. i love how you mixed up the harmonies a bit and added your flare here and there, but overall kept the whole remix very faithful to the source. just love the high attention to detail on display here, and the convincingness of the entire arrangement. particularly love the Mukaiya-esque keyboard solo, and the drum programming is incredible too. there aren't enough fusion style arrangements on ocremix. beautiful. i'm floored.

  21. Sounds great! Always nice to hear a latin arrangement on OCR. Definitely one of the most impressive first submissions I've heard.

  22. Man, I really loved this remix! There's a ton of attention to detail throughout and it shows some great musicality. The fade-out is a shame, but a minor blemish for a great remix.

  23. This is perhaps one of the longest remixes on the site as far as I know, but the good thing is, it NEVER gets boring and given the style of the arrangement, the length is appropriate. We need more remixes like this. Production is pretty clean, although the fake guitars sort of bugged me a little, it didn't really matter with the execution of the arrangement. The original tune sort of had an implication that it was written with Jazz Fusion in mind, without the improv. I'd say this arrangement is like a perfect "arrange version" for this song, considering it was written about 2 decades ago. Lots of syncopation, the improv, I can't really say much about the execution, it's just done so well. Perhaps you should get a lead sheet done for this and get an actual band to perform this arrangement. Splendid stuff, faithful to the original, and VERY nice arrangement.
