  1. I don't plan on going, but I think it'd be a kickin' rad thing to do if you guys attended E3 wearing OCR t-shirts or hoodies to support the community
  2. Yes, DKC3 came out at the back end of SNES releases, after Mario 64 came out. It used the Mario 64 theme as an easter egg. Thread over; nothing left to see here, folks.
  3. All sorts of speculation going on as to why the forum is underused, but no way to really prove it. Why not test out the recruit/collab forum as its own section for a while and see if it gets more activity? It couldn't hurt. -AB
  4. Well this will at least make the battles feel like less of a chore to get through.
  5. I don't know how else to explain that your posts come off as racist to me if you are going to hand-wave away the arguments I linked explaining precisely why a rigid definition of "racism" can't be applied to explain racism in a meaningful way. You want to operate on a system of modal logic, but the concept is largely based on specific personal experiences that do allow us to generally understand the idea after experiencing it enough, but don't really allow for a way to extrapolate abstract propostions to soundly apply your logic. Whether you can accept my opinion of your posts or not, they still reek of racism to me. It'd be nice if you could at least acknowledge that you've been close-minded as I pointed out in my first post, but I doubt that'll happen. That's the last I'd say on it so as not to derail your poor thread any further. TL;DR: I think what I think. Deal with it.
  6. How do you prove something is racist without relying on some nebulous definition of "racism"? It just is. If you want an explanation as to why I'm allowed to intuit this, these posts just about cover it: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3353723&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=5#post382829205 http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3353723&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=5#post382833368
  7. This thread is hilariously bad. All your posts indicate that you're only interested in hearing out self-affirming points of view about a strawman for urban culture that really just sounds like a thinly-veiled attack against societal ills that are mainly pervasive among certain minority communities. Your posts reek of the white privilege mindset to me. Please don't bother expressing white guilt by getting all defensive over what I think your posts look like, just acknowledge that this is what I perceive. Consider for a second that taking the mindset of having a blanket "zero-tolerance" policy against a largely heterogeneous group (mainstream rappers) who you claim to know 95% of despite making outdated references to rappers that aren't really mainstream anymore--this kind of thing really doesn't make you look like you're interested in learning anything you don't already agree with.
  8. There are some games (I think FF7 is one) where during a boss fight, you may want to defend for a few turns because there are periods where attacking would result in crippling counterattacks.
  9. It looks alright, but I won't expect much out of it. The story and characters will probably be utterly mediocre, generic, and one-dimensional again. Edit: I hope they improved the battle system too. It was pretty conventional. Also, if my character kills something that another one was targeting, the latter better automatically attack someone else instead of defending.
  10. 1. Share this with people: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/ocremix?ref=ts. You don't need to be a facebook user to share this link. 2. Make quality forum posts that would keep people interested in staying here. Having more active forum users may lead to more minds putting their heads together to make this place expand. Edit: 3. Also share whatever VG Music-related podcasts/radios you find out about.
  11. I've played Chrono Trigger through I think at least 16 times since I first played it at the age of 10 (I'm 21 now). I played through Chrono Cross maybe 6-7 times.
  12. The only Zelda game that's been a disappointment since the N64 is Twilight Princess. Minish Cap was so-so. Looks like an exception more than a rule.
  13. I didn't fully scan the thread, but here are a couple recommendations I didn't notice: -Nomak -Uyama Hiroto -Emancipator -Marcus D A lot of these guys collaborate with each other, but they have distinct styles you should check out. Substantial and Soul Position are a couple of good hip-hop artists who actually do feature lyrics, though I know you're not really looking for that. You should still check them though. Substantial in particular is pretty heavy on lyrics defining the song. </opinion from person who knows nothing about music>
  14. The opening post to this thread is incredibly bad. Please rewrite it to make the situation more clear to people who have no idea what this is about.
  15. If there were no character icons next to the text, you would never be able to tell who was speaking because the characters are all one-dimensional. None of the characters had any personality and the story being pretty generic didn't really help. If you could write up how the characters' personalities differed, by all means go ahead. The whole game lacked an interesting overarching plot, as it was entirely a series of sidequests that tangentially related to the main story in roundabout ways. You only got a taste of the story when you reached lighthouses and went through 15 minutes of dialogue. By the time I finished those long streams of text, I was ready to shut off my GBA. It had pretty solid graphics mostly, admittedly. The overworld was horrid though. The music was ok, but with only two or three memorable tracks (Sol Sanctum, battle theme, boss battle). Gameplay-wise, there wasn't all that much going on. The Djinn system was decent, and I enjoyed the psynergy abilities outside of battle, but altogether it wasn't interesting enough to make me want to play through the endless random battles. Since battles weren't all that enjoyable, this also detracted from enjoying the puzzles as you had to stop frequently to go fight something. One aspect of the battle system I also disliked is that if two characters were assigned to attack one target, and the first character killed the target, the second character would simply defend instead of attacking something else. RPGs generally stopped doing this years ago with really old Final Fantasy games. Minor point, but a little irritating nonetheless. I could go on but I think these are decent enough critiques of the game--especially since I've got an exam tomorrow.
  16. I beat the game. Your assumption is unfounded.
  17. I agree it was a great game if by "great" we are referring to its capacity to be shallow, dull, and unmemorable.
  18. You need to not put these things in the same sentence. What is this game about?
  19. I like old games for their difficulty. Simple yet challenging games are just plain more replayable than easy games. To illustrate, I played Super Mario World a dozen times (maybe more), but I was finished with New Super Mario Bros, a comparatively much easier game, after the first couple run-throughs. On top of that, in the old days programmers put secrets in the most random places that you wouldn't think of looking for. You just had to happen about it by accident or by searching every corner of the level/map. I love the exploration factor, and it's not something I really need to do with new games anymore because things are so much more obvious than they used to be. Speaking of things I love, story-driven games with dynamic worlds are awesome too. By "dynamic" I mean there is some gap in knowledge that you fill in as you play the game. Things happen in parts of the game world where your characters aren't, multiple parts of the plot happen concurrently, or characters are related in unexpected ways that tap into the game history's past. It adds a lot to the exploration/discovery factor of the world as well as the characters. For example, FF6 and Chrono Cross were very dynamic. FF6 had multiple stories going on at the same time since your characters split up at certain times. I replayed Chrono Cross 6-7 times over the years just to remind myself of the entire story, since it tied to Chrono Trigger in so many ways that made the story richer. I like seeing all the subtle little connections characters have to each other because it makes the world seem broader. Subtleties like this give me, as a player, a very "ooooh!" moment where I realize that the game world isn't as simple and clear as I initially thought because there are gaps in my knowledge of its happenings. In my view, dynamic stories are the best, and I haven't played a new RPG I've liked in years. I'm not sure if they make games like that anymore. Then again, I haven't played more than 5-6 new games since starting college. ETA: This was my first post in almost a year and half due to general disappointment in this forum. Please don't disappoint me in this thread.
  20. Mario Galaxy had a few flaws, but bad game? Get the fuck out trolls
  21. 1. 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitalism 3. This OP promises mediocrity.
  22. If Joshua Morse isn't doing Disco Train there will be hell to pay kthxbye
  23. I dunno if anyone else notices this but I've noticed this trend where occasionally djp posts a Voices of the Lifestream project instead of other cool shit that everyone wants posted. I think it's a conspiracy transition from OCRemix into FF7Remix It could happen *lol*
