I'm totally going to rip off other people's reviews. Mostly because I know they know what they're talking about and agree with them. Also because I wouldn't have known to call it 'flanged percussion.' So yes, love the perc. Definately the right choice for this mix, and it definately drives the music. The mix is short but sweet although, as I've been complaining about in a couple other mixes, I feel like there's a lack of melody or real movement. It's ok, though, since the mix still has a nice groove.

The sonar is a nice touch to the piece, and I like how it fits throughout the entire song. The song is very meandering, which isn't a bad thing, though I would have liked more of a...purpose...for lack of a better word. The song falls too much into a catagory of something I can really through into the background and ignore. From the sounds of it, however, the original music wasn't much different, so it's hard to fault DJP on that. I like the jazz feel, and sometimes background music is nice to have. I'll keep this one.

I've heard the movie pretty faithfully follows the book, except the ending, which is most likely being saved for the second movie. I can't wait to see this, I loved the first book, and thought the second and third were also very good (not as good as the first though). I want a daemon!

Ok, with a name like Phat Musashi, this better be good. An interesting use of sound choices. Not my favorite sounds, but they fit into the piece well, and I don't think anything else would have worked here. I like the pace of the piece, it works well. Overall, I'm not a fan of the style, but that's just me. I still can appreciate it for what it is.

I'm not a fan of the flute sample used for the intro, but that's a matter of taste. It felt too fake for me. The beats come in somewhat suddenly, would have liked more lead-in. Pretty standard fare, from what I'm hearing, but that's alright. Having just reviewed Mutagene's SoTB 3 mix, I have the same comment from before, the melody seems way too far back, like it's being hidden. It worked in Purified, but I'm not fond of it here. I would have liked to see more melody up front. Also, like his Purified mix (or the other way around most likely, I didn't look at release dates), I would have liked more expansion of this mix. I feel like it just gets started, then it's over. Overall it's alright. I'm more of a fan of Purified, though.

The percussion work and sound effects really bring this piece to life. Generally I'm not a fan of the percussion really being the 'lead' in a piece, but it works here. I'm digging this. Except the ending. What just happened? I don't mind a fade out like that, but it was really sudden. I was expecting like another 2 minutes of mix first. Still, a keeper for me.

I'd still love to see more people get involved in this, even if you grab one mix and review it a day! At this point there are 9 mixes with only 3 reviews on them, 34 mixes with 4 reviews, 37 with 5, and similar numbers for 6, 7, and 8. There are a bunch of mixes with 9 reviews, and it would be great to get those all to 10. Any takers?

Unfortunately this piece shows it's age through it's sample use. That's the biggest drawback, in my opinion. The lack of real arrangement doesn't help, however. As stated before, the breakdown of this piece is the highlight. More of that would have really brought up the piece.

Right away I don't really like the straight chords in the piano, they feel too rigid. They fit in better once the groove of the piece starts, but I would have liked a different opening. I don't know the source, but this mix seems a bit cookie-cutter to me. Not that that's a bad thing, but I feel like it lacks a hook to really get me interested. OA mentioned that you felt like you were in a trance, and I agree with that statement. Nothing is sticking out, but I'm still drawn into the piece.

I'm in agreement with OA for most of this. It's really repetitious, which is alright for background music. Trying to focus on it is difficult, as I'm constantly hearing the same thing over again. Regardless, I liked how it started out, it pulled me in quickly. Wish it could have kept my attention more.

I love when the bass first comes in. You know the track's gonna be awesome when you hear it. Great time signature adaption, it fit's really easily into 4/4. Dynamic use is also nicely done, I like the swells into the next section. Good job!

So it's that Christmas month again, and last year BGC started a really cool movement to get some lesser-listened-to songs more reviews. I think it's a great idea, and I want to bring it back this year. Basically, there are tons of songs that have less than 20 reviews, and even some with less than 10. I say we all try to find at least one song a day that we haven't listened to, or haven't reviewed, and try to beef up those review threads. So, take a few minutes and grab a song you haven't heard, or maybe listen to one you haven't reviewed and take a little time to write some comments! And, for the lame ending sentence, "Give the gift of reviews!"
